Was close to getting the 2a but no eSIM is a bit of deal break imo.

    • +4

      Consider the A55

    • +11

Check out 5ber eSIM, physical sim that stores esims, basically for $20 bucks you can overcome no esim easily

      • It's interesting haven't looked into it too deeply, I do have security concerns with a random 3rd party having access to my sim details depending how the process works. Also would this sim stop working if the company shuts down?

        • Agree, worth looking into, I only found out this was an option when considering a cheap chinese OnePlus 12 but like having esim for travel. Ended up getting a pixel so haven't dived into detail.

    • almost want this one, but at the end wife got A55 and I got A35, feel like it is safer to have samsung if keeping phone for 5+ yrs

    • +1

It's not a bad phone at all

I got it for one of my kids,The build quality is amazing, equal to a lot of the flagship stuff.

camera is more than passable, only let down in REALLY low light

    No dock

  • +2

It’s not clear from the listing on the site, it looks like this is just the tablet itself and not the tablet and dock ?

  • +7

Google Pixel Tablet has a 60Hz refresh rate screen.
I am going to sing "let it go…let it go…"

    • +3

Why would that matter for general use?

    • -1

How many apps have native support for more than 60 Hz? Not that many at the moment. My phone has 120 Hz but I don't use it daily. So, mostly 60 Hz. We can see in real time about the refresh rate after turning on "Show refresh rate" from Developer options in the setting.

Higher refresh rate, eat more battery. If you want the screen feel smoother more often and more clean, wipe the screen more often with disinfectant wipes (Woolies only $3 for 120 pcs).

    Officeworks $397.00.

    • +2

Officeworks is out of stock at most stores

    • +2

I’d be happier with the $397

  • Wish this was the dock version!

  • Just got the nothing phone for $399 combining it with GC

  • Thanks. Missed the email but was gonna get one of the tablets for daughter. Will swing by Woolies tomorrow and hopefully grab 4 x $100 TCN Gift Cards. $360 is a decent price and will pick up a reduced speaker dock stand with some leftover Telstra plus points

  • how many Android upgrades and security updates that you will get for the phone please ?

    • +1

      3 OS, 4 year security

      • Wow, similar to A55

  • Nothing Phone (2a) 8GB RAM/128GB Storage $439

    Nice.

  • Why this over an iPad?

Everyone has different use cases. I have iPad. Android is much more flexible and more functionality than iPad. It's very easy to copy paste files from android to memory card or even USB OTG (flashdisk/another memory card).

Automation is much better in android with huge use cases/functions. Check Macrodroid app or Tasker app in android. iPad/iPhone is very limited for automation functions that cannot match Tasker or Macrodroid app in android.

Browsers like Brave or Firefox for android can play YouTube in the background (music for example) in android devices while using another app, but not in iPad/iphone.

Adblocker app (system wide) like Adguard for example has much more filters and other functions in android if compared with Ipad/iphone (more limited).

      Etc.

Thank you for answering a very simple question. Yep, just confirms what I already know, but I wonder what I am missing out on by not going into the apple ecosystem.

        • +1

Only thing miss out not going to apple ecosystem is tracking device. Their air tags just works.
I don't think android can ever implement the same level of application.
Everything else , android has cheaper or more expensive, better or flashy design if you want, a very wide range of choices that Apple will never be able to match.

      • For me, even though I am not an Apple fan, I have seen my ipad mini 2 with 32gb lasted more than 15 years comparing to Android pad which slowed down and unusable after 3 years of used. Good investment for me. Even though my ipad is still working for youtube and browsing, but it has now slowed down and has battery issue, though still manageable.

  • 2a plus will be out next month afaik. Granted, it's not a huge upgrade over the normal 2a.

  • I actually went into JB Chat and asked them to match the Officeworks deal of $397. He said as they had already discounted the price, the best he could do was $429. That was literally yesterday!
Decided rather than a tablet, I'd get the OnePlus 2R watch instead 😂

    • Got JB to price match Officeworks in Canberra yesterday

  • Nothing 2a or Samsung A55?
Inclined to the 55 myself but curious

    • I went with the 2a-sure, the number of years of software updates isn't as nearly long as the A55's but happy with my 2a.

  • +1

Charging Speaker Dock (sold separately) required to activate Hub Mode. 2 Home control features require compatible smart devices (sold separately). 3 Requires Google Home app.

  • -1

How does the Nothing 2a (never heard of Nothing) and Samsung compare to a Samsung S21 5G
I want power and battery, camera quality isnt really a deal breaker I was happy with what the S21 gave me

    • +1

S21 is a 3 year old phone. The 2a came out this year. On that alone the 2a is a better investment because it will have security updates till 2028. The s21's updates are only good for another year.

Wake me up when tablet and dock together will cost $399

  • Got one and paid with TCN Gift cards which cost me $360 - ended up getting the charging stand thing for 120 plus the Telstra points i hadn’t been able to use for forever! Happy with that - $480 out of pocket cost - always said I’d pull the trigger when it came to under $500 for the bundle

  • If they can price match officeworks for another $30 less, I will consider buying.
