      @rosebank in the house?

Personally this is a bit of a waste of money. Got given this as a gift. It is so thin and watery at 40% ABV it's a shame to dilute something of this age statement. There is a brown sugar sweetness but there's no viscosity which lets any tasting notes drop off a cliff. I didn't even make tasting notes in my diary because it was that unremarkable.

      • Yeah this is what I read as well online when looking at buying this as well

Agree. The only 'fiddich I like is the teaspoon they put in Balvenie indies

      • Yes I was going to ask about the whole 40% ABV. There's one side that argues Whisky at 40% abv, is just mass produced generic stuff and lacking in flavour, regardless of the age. Then there's the other side that argue that the "has to be more than 40%" to be decent is just a load of crap and is like boasting about your shoe size.

      • I too was looking really hard at this…then also read that it's disappointing for what it is.

For the same money I ended up getting the Balvenie 14yo Caribbean Cask (which I read is a good alternative to the Glenfiddich 21yo) and the Glenfiddich 12yo Sherry Cask together from DM.

      • i didnt get any sugar sweetness, interesting as its normally my only go to whiskey on the run

I posted this yesterday in the 12 year Glenfiddich bargain thread. Liquor Legends at Bradbury Sydney cleared out their stock of the Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21 year old for $58 per 700ml bottle or $52.20 each if you bought 2 bottles a few years ago:

A relative that lives in the Campbelltown area managed get a bottle from them at that price… They shared some with me, it was nice, but it’s definitely not worth $200-$350 in my opinion.

miss the old days when these were on special for $170ish

  • Thanks. Good find.

  • Superb drop, has not been this cheap in years.

$213.71 if using 5% discounted gift cards (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/discounted_egift_cards)

  • 40% ABV at this price point?

      It’s not moonshine bro

      • Isn't moonshine typically 40%? lol

      • Would be better if it was

    • Agree. Single malt of this age should be 43-45.

    • Yep, whenever a bottle is above $100 and only 40% seems poor value for money.
Once you go 43%+ it's really hard to go back. I'd rather a Deanston 12 over this.

      • D12 definitely better than GF12 in my opinion.

  • Lot of money for just one molt.

I had this, the 18 and 15. Even at this price point the 18 is better when on special. It’s a nice refined/smooth dram but for this age it’s not complex enough and not worth the be money unless it’s a for a gift to sit in the cabinet.

  • Starting to think the premium whisky market has tanked hard? Seems like there's lots of heavy discounting on the $150+ whiskies. Interest rates?
