This popular tablet is on sale again. Not quite ATL, but close enough for me.

Bought my second one to replace an ailing iPad.

Bang for buck it's pretty good. Nice to use, good screen, pen available - just make sure you choose the correct one.

Take a few min to make it closer to AUS product and add Google services.

My Mi pad 5 pro is still going strong

    • +1

Same with my Pad 6 pro

    • Same with my Galaxy Tab S1 10.5…

…though the battery only lasts a movie now, and some apps don't work reliably.

      • Great tablet specs for 10 yrs old. Battery still good for 1 1/2 to 2 hours then ?

        • +2

More like <4 hours screen on time from full charge. 3.5 hours no problem, enough for a movie stream.

I got it for about $350 with a special and shop manager intervention (due to a complaint) ages ago (a decade? It was about the time the Tab S2 came out I think) and consider it my best technology bargain purchase 😀 I might have got it through ozbargain! Harvey Norman…

Beautiful 2k AMOLED screen with stereo speakers and Multi window functionality, 6gb ram…, very much ahead of its time, but it is feeling the age as certain apps like Prime Video randomly restarts every now and again or just doesn't want to play some videos which is annoying as f.

          • @smartProverble: That was the top model then, good score at best value price usually when new release is out. Keep it going,
or at least as a No 2 device.

          • +2

@smartProverble: Not sure about the 6GB RAM, seems like it had 3GB. But still very good for 2014!

            • @heef: Yeah, 3GB is right.

I sold mine about 3 years ago. I'd give up on the device a few years prior as it was painfully slow and barely usable.

I had one more go at improving the situation(short of a 3P rom) before selling it and no luck.

              • @ihfree: Why did yours become slow?

                • @smartProverble: 3GB device with Samsung bloatware.

My Note 3(similar specs IIRC) was also unbearably slow on the stock rom but that was updated to a 3P rom which had much better performance.

            • +1

@heef: This whole time I thought it had 6gb ram 🤣

              Thank you for the correction

I'm still using mine too. Amazing tab with its great OLED screen. It's lighter and has a higher ppi than my new S9. Buy a replacement battery from eBay for $40.

I think I would recommend the 2023 version over the 2025 one, if you're just looking for a decent tablet for note-taking, reading, or just watching videos. The price is nearly half of the 2025 version, but the screen and battery specs are pretty much the same. Only the chip is different: Snapdragon 870 vs Dimensity 8300.

      Link? I cant find….

      • The Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025? Just look up at AliExpress. It's already out for a month now on most stores. I got mine from the Lenovo Online Store.

      • +1

        From AliExpress "Lenovo Online Store"

        Glossy Display
        Matte Display

It's certainly not the cheapest store, but I got mine from there anyway.

The prices have been steadily decreasing, not sure if it's related to the sale, currency conversions, or just competition.

TBH the SD 870 is still solid all around unless you plan on doing some serious photo/video editing.

  • My boyfriend keeps murmuring about this during sleep. Me thinks me need to get a xiaoxin for x-mas.

If you are after pen thn this is not for you because pen costs $80 and can’t use generic ones

  • Can anyone confirm that Netflix will see this as L1? From reading other forums there looks to be a couple of things to do to add the play store. Still trying to find a definitive anwer on Netflix..

    • I bought the tablet from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/852218, and it does support L1.
The only issue I have with the Netflix app was the buttons and menu were in Chinese which I have not found a fix for it.
Luckily it was pretty easy to navigate and still search / input with English within the app.
      Still would recommend.

  • Can you take note with pen on this one like Samsung s9 tablet?

    • Yes, I think it's decent enough for note-taking and has good palm rejection, but not as good as Samsung. Even the default Notepad app pales in comparison to Samsung Notes, but there's always third-party apps if you need them.

    • +1

You have to buy separate pen and it will cost 80+

  • bargain!

  • Anyone know if this works well with airpods? any delay?

  • $USD282.51 with Pen.. Any alternatives to get the pen itself for cheaper?

    • Nope no other pen works with this

  • I wish I could get this CPU in a decent 8 inch tablet. 12.7 inches is way too big for my purposes. I just want a decent and economical Android iPad mini alternative.

    • Following, even I am looking a decent 8inch tablet for media purpose. Thinking to get Alldocube iplay 50 mini pro NFE.

    • +2

Check out Lenovo Y700. 8.8 inches, older one has the same CPU as this, newer one is 8+ Gen 1.

    • +3

      Lenovo Legion Y700 2022 is the SD870, 2023 8+ Gen 1 and 2024 will have the 8 Gen 3 CPU.

    • I have both this tablet and the legion y700.

Both great devices, this one big and cheap, the legion is small, portable, screen is better and nicer all around.

      Cant go wrong with either.

    • If you want a budget 8" that's quite useable, I bought an Alldocube iPlay 50 Mini Pro for around $265. It's been remarkably capable and runs close to stock Android. More here: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidtablets/comments/193becx/ipl…

  • how long does it usually take compare to the estimate?

  • Damn, ETA is the 18th.. Fly out on holiday on the 20th… So I roll the dice…?

    • Mine turned up considerably early last time.

What's the alternative? Can you get that at the last minute?

If so will the dice and if it doesn't turn up you can return in 90 days I think. Presuming you're coming back.

If it's purely a TRS consideration then that is only a $30 gamble.

  • Will this do 4K output to an external screen?

Need something cheap to run a retail display

    • Pi?

      • Haven’t looked at a pi in years - will do. Anything Pi packages you can recommend for displays ?

How everyone getting 307.25 when tax is added on at checkout?

    • I think you could get up to 6% additional discount with the AliExpress coins, and it's slightly cheaper (more coin discount) if you buy from the app instead.

      • Sorry, I think I had $1.30 coin token I forgot to remove from post. There are multiple listing at same seller for different prices though.

  • Does it come with warranty?

    • I'm sure it does.

I wouldn't consider it a selling point though as I'm sure something would go awry between lodging claim with online store, shipping tab to China and getting it back again.

      • Last year I bought Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad 2022 for around $160. After a few months, the screen started flickering for about 5 minutes whenever I turned it on. I checked the XDA and 4PAD forums and found that others were facing the same issue, but there was no solution. The dispute window was already closed and could not be bother with warrant for $160. I ended up giving it away to a relative.
This is not selling point but something to consider when buying for Aliexpress

Does anyone know if this has a feature that is similar to Samsung Dex?

    • +1

It has a PC Mode, which allows you to turn your Lenovo tablet into a desktop mode capable of windowed apps and such. It also allows you to mirror or extend your screen to another display.

It can also be used as a second touchscreen monitor through the Smart Connect app.

      • Would it allow to use as an external screen via another laptop? Thanks.

        • Yes, you can also use your PC or laptop as a second monitor for the Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025 via the Smart Connect app.

      • Sweet, thanks for your reply

  • Sold out. 256GB is not bad, $242.86 before the discount.

  • Is there a version with the matte display?

  • anyone got this for their kids to play roblox? any good?

    • Yes. Very good!

    • @Clear

      • +1

        Yes

  • Chmorebook is better option to spend $300

  • China rom, good or bad?

    • Good. Has English as an option, Google Play services can be enabled in the Settings and the ZUI ROM gets more attention from Lenovo than the global ROMs.

If you happen to get one with a "global ROM" you're going to be in a world of trouble because there is none. A seller stitched ROM from another tablet with an unlocked bootloader, no updates, bad performance and no Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD.

  • Just got mine. Everything was sealed. Wow, very impressive.

    • did you buy case/ glass protector?

      • I did this time. The pen isn't quite as smooth, but the bumper case is nice and simple.

        • Link?

  • Yeah, I got 2 for the kids. Case I got was the kids safe shockproof with pencil holder. Fits really well.

No glass protector. Although thinking of getting some kind of protective zip case to fit it in, so protect the screen when in storage or taking it away.

  • Hi, interested to know if able to use this as a second monitor for laptop? Thanks

    • If it works with the Smart Connect app, it should be possible. Just don't expect a high quality display, as the max resolution is limited to 1080p at 50Hz.

  • Can't get Netflix to run in HD. Anyone know how???
