  • I know ozbargainers will prefer the reolink if wired but am pretty happy with mine so far. Good deal.

    • The Google Nest Doorbell (battery) that we get in Australia can also be hard wired in :) You have the option of both.

      • What power supply etc is needed? Is it diy friendly?

  • I guess it needs a seperate purchase for a chime if you want a bell with your doorbell..? Would like to monitor front door, but also have a bell 🔔 sound for my elderly parents, yes having a dedicated display would help from a security perspective.

    • Correct, it only notifies the owner via the Google Home app. A Ring Doorbell with Chime is the solution.

    • Plenty of things you could use that are cheap:

      • Google Mini Speaker
      • Google Hub (Screen + Speaker)
      • Google Hub Max (Screen + Speaker)
      • Google Pixel Tablet (Via the Home Hub App)
      • Google Home App (On any device)
      • Mine is so hit or miss if it actually chimes correctly on my phone and hub

The Google Nest Doorbell (battery) can be wired to a chime, I did it with mine following instructions I found online. Benefit of this is it also never needs recharging.

    • ^^ thanks ozb team!!!

  • does it also need the hub or nest mesh or something? or works independently?

    • Independently off the Google Home app.

This sucks. Returned mine for a tapo solution. Longer battery, better view and no subscription costs with microsd. Google buggy as hell.

Unfortunately the tapo is currently not cheaper but new model incoming so look for sales.

If you live in a quiet st, google may be suitable for your needs.

Good Guys have joined the party and are offering it up for $135 if you click the "Price check, pay less with price beat" button

  • This thing paid for itself when it recorded a video of someone walking up to my door to steal my shoes, then being physically repulsed when they realised it was crocs.

Seriously though I probably wouldn’t buy this again, it takes so long to view a live feed or past event in the app, it hardly ever chimes correctly in my Google Home Hub and paying a subscription for any decent event retention sucks. Not sure what the competition is like with battery/wireless doorbells, but I’m sure it can’t be much worse than this, right?
