Never heard about pocket money. Can we use it everywhere or only at certain shops ?

    • According to the product page, it's a Mastercard

      • +3

I just read past posting and notice it is not worth the hassle ?

        • +1

Yeah probably nah 15% cashback offer can only be redeemed once per MicroGifts account.

          • @Blok: Got a loading fees of 6$ almost max amount can be loaded is 75$ promo is restricted to one mobile number per bigW accountas well :D so not worth it
            Totally Agree
So basically 5$ win for 75$ card and that too only one card is allowed per mobile number

            • @WilliWonka: It is a good way for BHN to harvest your data. Hence, Not bonus EDR points that can not achieve this purpose.

    • +3

Pocket Money gift cards are what you use to top up a DigitalCash prepaid Mastercard gift card.

DigitalCash is a digital-only prepaid Mastercard gift card that can be used at any merchant that chooses to accept prepaid Mastercard gift cards. You will need to download the MicroGifts app to use your DigitalCash:

      • You can add a DigitalCash prepaid Mastercard gift card to Apple Pay, Google Wallet or Samsung Wallet.

      • Alternatively, when you load the MicroGifts app, you can grab your DigitalCash details to use at online merchants, linking to PayPal, etc.

There is no physical gift card in the Pocket Money gift card packaging; there is only a QR code that you scan to link the Pocket Money gift card to your MicroGifts account (and therefore load the Pocket Money value to your DigitalCash card). You also cannot request a physical DigitalCash card.

    • -1

Yes you can use it EVERYWHERE.

  • Is variable load included?

    • +3

The catalogue does not list any variable load denominations as exclusions.

Additionally, the catalogue specifically shows images of the variable load denomination for the following gift cards:

      • Apple
      • Uber / Uber Eats
      • Pocket Money
      • Timezone / Kingpin / Zone Bowling

It would be bit odd for BIG W to show pictures of the variable load denominations for these gift cards, but then actually exclude them.

I am not aware of BIG W selling any other gift card in this deal in the variable load denomination.

      • +4

Thanks for clarifying you are the best

  • +6

It seems like theres 5.95 purchase fee on the pocket money gift card.

    • +2

Yes ignore it. It is worse than immediate 2k EDR points considering the involved redemption process.

  • +1

have i got my maths right, currently i have my woolies rewards linked so that every 2000 points, i get 1000 qantas points
so essentially i buy a $100 apple card - 20x bonus points = 2000 so essentially im getting 1000 qantas points free for the $100 apple purchase?

side question: do people do qantas points or rather get the $10 off next shop option?

    • +3

essentially i buy a $100 apple card - 20x bonus points = 2000 so essentially im getting 1000 qantas points free for the $100 apple purchase?

      Correct.

do people do qantas points or rather get the $10 off next shop option?

I opt for Everyday Rewards Dollars, mostly because I do not have much use for Qantas points at the moment. I have not flown with Qantas for over a year now, whereas I have flown with Virgin Australia a number of times in the same period!

      • whats everyday reward dollars? is that the $10 off next shop after getting 2000 points?

        • +1

          Essentially, yes.

Everyday Rewards Dollars have two redemption options:

          • Money Off Shopping: I think this is the redemption option you are thinking of, where you can redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars in lots of $10 on the next shop of your choice.

          • Bank For Christmas: This is where you can stash away your Everyday Rewards Dollars for most of the year, then have them available for redemption in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

          • @WookieMonster: What does Bank For Christmas really do? Seems like it is just restricting you to use your rewards dollars until during Christmas time?

        • +1

Correct. You can also accumulate multiple $10 so for example, if you have $30 Rewards Dollars and you shop at Woolies and the likes (BigW, BWS, and even Milkrun), and the total is more than $30, the system will ask you whether you want to redeem your $30 (or $10 or $20).

          • @FOX: Lol beaten by the Master!

            • +1

@FOX: All good, your answer did go further than mine!

          • @FOX: ok i might change from qantas to everyday rewards since i use that more than qantas flights :)

    • I do Bank for Christmas and accumulate money in hopes to buy PS6 next year or year after whenever it gets released.

      • Is the bank of Christmas valid for the current year only? Like you have to use the accumulated credit by this Xmas or is there an option to keep banking the credits till next Xmas?

        • +2

Bank For Christmas simply means that your Everyday Rewards Dollars will be locked away until the period it is unlocked for redemption (usually around mid-November to end of December).

If you have any leftover Everyday Rewards Dollars when 1 January rolls around, they will be locked away again and you cannot redeem them until the next period (or until you change your Everyday Rewards redemption option on your account to something else). You will keep any leftover Everyday Rewards Dollars when 1 January rolls around.

        • Like what wookie said. You wont lose anything

  • +1

Ensure you read the terms of pocket money. They will only issue the redemption after the redemption period has closed and as per the specific days.

    • +4

Yes, probably 30 days waiting for a few dollars more and wish that nothing goes wrong.

      • +1

The problem with pocket money is they may have promotions with overlapping periods.

I have chased them a couple of times and there standard answer is you need to wait the specific waiting period even after l explained to them my specific wait time for my promotions have finished.

At one stage they didnt even update the claims page with the most recent promotion.

  • Seems Ultimate Gaming is the best option though…..

  • Does anyone know of any complications if one wanted to use discounted gift cards to buy something to be salary sacrificed?

Specifically, apple gift cards to buy a macbook used mainly for work

  • +2

Max dollar value on the pocket money gc is $75. With $5.95 purchase fee. Max one 15% cb. This is why neoika says don't bother. I had to click through to see the denominations.

  • So, I buy $2,000 in Apple Gift Cards from Big W (10x $200 cards), I can then buy a Mac Book or iPhone from Apple ? Is this correct ?

    • +1

      Correct

    • Just a note, I'm wondering if the bigger discount arises from buying a HIM or HER giftcard and buying from JBHifi instead of Apple direct

  • For the 15% cashback from buying the Pocket Money giftcard, is there any cap? For example, I plan to pre-pay body corporate levy of around $3,000 for the whole year. Can I just buy $3,000 of the Pocket Money gift card and pay it through DEFT website, then redeem the 15% cashback of $450 to be spend on the DigitalCash prepaid Mastercard gift card somewhere else (e.g. use this to pay for Council rates)?
    Thank you.

    • +2

Sorry to burst your bubble, but:

      • You should be charged a $5.95 purchase fee when purchasing a Pocket Money gift card, which probably erodes the value proposition of this deal.

      • You can only claim the 15% cashback once per MicroGifts account (i.e. on one $25-$75 Pocket Money gift card).

      • Apparently you cannot spend more than $999 on a DigitalCash card in a day.

      • +2

Thanks very much. I just realised the max load for one card is $75. So, I will have $11.25 cash back, but after $5.95 fee, I ended up around $5.3 profit 😂 doesn’t worth the effort then.

  • So basically for the pocket money, if you got a $75 gift card you only really end up profiting $5 after the fee is deducted?

    • I guess it would be 75*15%= 11.25 - 5.95(card fee)= $5.3 cashback
I don't recommend to do it as too many steps to process

  • -1

can it be stacked with 10% discount off from woolworths mobile?

  • I will try to see if stack with NAB goodies offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/860533

  • Can this deal be stacked (used on the same day) with the current Woolworths 20x deal? I might try…

  • @WookieMonster thanks for always advising the majority of gift promotions.

  • Any way to use these to buy Nintendo eShop cards? Like, but the ultimate gaming and use it to buy gift cards at JB HiFi or something?

  • Just a quick one on the microgift card. It just a card. The scanning barcode should be hidden until you want to purchase the gift card. You can select an amount to pay on the card.

Once you open the flap. There will be a qr code you can scan and it will let you send the details to a person mobile number. Click on the sms and your need to install the micropay app. Note if you previously used micropay this will be added to your account.

  • Does everyday extra bonus points (x2 extra points on purchases) apply to the apple gift card point promotion?

    • +1

Officially speaking, no. The FAQs on the Everyday Extra webpage says:

What purchases will I collect 2x points on?

You’ll collect Extra Points of 1 bonus point for every dollar spent at Woolworths and BIG W, in-store and online. There are a small number of products which you won’t collect Extra Points on, such as smoking products, gift cards, mobile recharge, travel cards and delivery charges. For further details, see this FAQ and the Everyday Rewards program terms and conditions at everydayrewards.com.au/terms.

I also have not heard of any cases of people being able to earn bonus points from the Everyday Extra perk when purchasing gift cards at BIG W (nor Woolworths).

  • waiting for 15%

  • I want to get 15,000 qantas point to buy a jetstar ticket one way denpasar - adelaide (worth 14400 points). So, i am thinking to buy $1500 TCN gift card. Will limitation of 10 cards per member be an issue, as it seems that the highest nominal for a TCN card is $100?

    • Just buy 10 in 1 store and buy 5 at another one. Or buy 5 at the same store the following day… lol

      • "Offer limited to 10 gift cards per member"

To get 20x bonus on more than 10 gift cards, you'd have to use another everyday rewards membership

  • The Gift cards TCN, Her, Him does not say anywhere demonination? Woolies clearly says $50-$100. These are silent.

    • If you click/tap the link to this deal and scroll down the BIG W page to where the TCN gift cards are advertised, it clearly shows you pictures of the three TCN gift cards in this deal (i.e. $50 fixed denomination, $100 fixed denomination). I would assume a denomination pictured on the BIG W webpage would mean it is part of the deal, and I do not know how that could be “silent”.

I am also literally standing in front of the gift card shelf at a BIG W store, and I can only see $50 and $100 fixed denominations for the TCN gift cards in this deal.

      • Woolies has clear terms. other than pictures it does not say.

  • Anyone know if buying these gift cards can be put on afterpay? I want my spending to go into my next statement period which is in a week lol

    • +1

      Yes, you can.

  • +1

God damn it, I accidentally bought the HIM Ultimate Gift Card and not the HIM one from the Card Network today at Big W. Didn't realise the mistake until after I made the purchase and being a gift card, it is non-refundable :( I purchased $500 worth so I could purchase the PSVR 2 from JB Hi-Fi. Jeez man, the mistake is so easy to make as the cards look absolutely identical! Missed out on the 10,000 rewards points (equivalent to $50) I would've received. Rookie mistake I guess

    • +1

It is very common. Most end up unreported.

      • Thanks mate. As a true ozbargainer, I'm still gutted about missing out on the $50 in Rewards cashback

        • +1

Try ur luck contacting EDR support via chat in app, they might grant you a “good will” reward if you plea. Good luck

  • I have purchased $5,000 of the Apple Gift Cards (10 x $500 Gift Cards) from Big W. Can I also buy the Ultimate Gift Cards from Woolworths? i.e., does the limitation apply to the single Everyday Rewards account?

  • Cant find anything for Officeworks gift card??

    • +1

      That is because:

      • None of the gift cards in this deal have Officeworks specifically listed as a participating retailer. Officeworks has never been part of the TCN gift card scheme.

      • BIG W does not sell the Officeworks gift card.

You could use a Pocket Money gift card at Officeworks, but that is not the best choice overall.

If you want a gift card that is redeemable at Officeworks, your best bet is the Ultimate gift card scheme, as some Ultimate gift cards have Officeworks as a participating retailer. The deal ending at Woolworths tonight is your best bet at the moment.

      • +1

        Thanks

      • Do you know we can use shopback supermarket gift card or cashrewards grocery gift card (5411 or 5499) in big w??

        • It is not supposed to work at BIG W, because BIG W should use MCC 5331 (Variety Stores).

However, I have not tried using them at BIG W, so I am not sure if it accidentally works there.

  • Popped into Big W (WA) yesterday to scope out the Ultimate Gaming and Bites cards, could see no variable load denominations only $50 & $100.

Furthermore the gift card solicited an additional fee, $8.95 from memory at the checkout - I scanned it just to check.

    • Confirmed there is fee of $6.95 for the $100. Not worth it

      • +1

Ultimate gift cards are not supposed to have purchase fees, so it sounds like someone at BIG W screwed up when adding Ultimate Gaming & Bites gift cards to their sales system.

Until that issue is fixed, I definitely would not purchase it.

        • Good pick up. There is no fee when you buy the Ultimate Gaming & Bites gift cards online and also no fee written anywhere on the packaging.

Big W staff probably confused with the Pocket Money gift card. There was a glitch last year when some customers were not charged the fee for the Pocket Money gift cards at Big W.

      • Sorry - yeah $6.95

    • -1

Confirmed in store there was every $6.95 transaction fee per card is just BS! go for ACCC for false advertising!!

  • It was showing $6.95 when scanning the gift card. Attendant also confused as the fee is not written on the card, as it would normally have on the prepaid visa for example. Yes, wouldn't purchase it either until this is fixed.

  • Just wondering if anyone had received their $11.25 cashback? I put the claim through on the 23rd and so far received nothing.
    Not even confirmation email

    • I have received nothing yet.

    • The last time Big W had this pocket money offer, cashback was $12 as it's rounded to the next dollar. Cashback was paid around the final submission date. It may be on or after 19th September.
(All claims are to be submitted by September 19, 2024.
Bonus gifts cards will be sent by email within 14 days of final submission date.)

      • Thanks mate. I will keep an eye on it.
Probably the last time I will buy this tbh

      • Worth keeping an eye out. However, Pocket Money terms and conditions when you submit are never correct. Always out of date based on the previous promotion.

    • +2

I rang MicroGifts/Pocket Money and they are still validating the claims. Cashback will be paid by 30th September.

  • +2

    Received my $12 today, cheers
