Best Tablet Just to Watch Movies on in Plane & Car?

Can anyone recommend a good tablet just to watch movies on?

Preferably around 12-13" and decent picture quality? Budget around $300 but I guess I would go higher if it needed.

Get a refurb iPad, then sell it when you get back?

That’s what I’m doing but with an iPad mini.

  • 13” tablet at $300? Definitely need to raise your budget

  • If you are okay with around 11" - 12" tablets, there are some options for around that price:
Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro WiFi Version 12.1" = $459
    Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 11" = $289
    Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE 11" = $309
    Lenovo Tab P11 (2nd Gen) + Precision Pen 2 11.5" = $334.99

Sold by Amazon, except Xiaomi but still ships from Amazon.

    • How are the screens on these for watching movies in the dark, since they're not OLED? I got the Lenovo M10 for $100 at Aldi early last year, and my only problem with it is that there's too much bleeding from the LCD backlight in the dark when watching movies in bed (which, admittedly, is what I mostly use it for).

I have iPad 9 with IPS LCD. Anyone should always use night mode or blue light filter on especially at night with any type of display. I watch videos in the dark too, no problem for me. I use night mode most of the time except outside in bright condition.

OLED could have burn-in problem. I am fine with IPS LCD.

Same. My phone is permanently on night mode.

  • You won’t find a 13” tablet with a good screen within your budget unless you are open for buying used, for example a used Lenovo Duet 5 can be found for under $400 on eBay . I have one, and it’s excellent for media consumption. It has a pretty good OLED screen and excellent battery life, I’ve used it for over 12 hours on a single charge. As a bonus, you also get the full desktop Chrome browsing experience with addons. I've seen the Duet 5 on sale below $500 last year, but not recently.

    • I bought a duet 5 and sold it pretty quick. For media consumption, the resolution is fine. Text left a lot to be desired.

    • $349 here.

  • Theres a couple at Bing Lee, but you'll either need a little or a lot more to your budget.

    Lenovo P11 (2nd Gen) 128GB + Precision Pen 2 - Slate Grey ZABF0407AU $349

    Lenovo Tab P12 12.7" 256GB WiFi ZACH0173AU $497
