Rather than [NSW] a [SYD] might be more appropriate.

    • +6

      Fixed ✅

      • True 👍

        • +2

Yea. Rest of NSW is a diff state. :)

  • +9

And a reduction in Prime membership costs for those outside of those postcodes….

    • They haven't reduced what they're offering for people outside those postcodes though…

      • +7

They actually have. See my comment below- Amazon has massively reduced the number of items available to rural areas over the last few months.

        • In my opinion, probably it's not worth it for Amazon to deliver in rural areas. So by reducing the available items for those areas it's like in a way telling them that they don't want them to be Prime members.

      • +3

From a business point of view, they have likely seen that they can't recover the additional freight costs to rural areas and deemed it's not worth it. Can't really blame them for making a financial decision.

        • -2

Agreed. It isn't reasonable to live in a rural area and expect the same services as those who live nearer to Amazon's warehouses

          • @beltdrive: Imagine trying to get proper medical service in the rural or even a bank branch. Same as many other services available in the metro.

The trade off is having serenity.

        • +9

I do not have an issue with Amazon AU doing that, because that is their business. However, I have an issue with how Amazon AU advertises this, because all you can find on this topic on their website is this webpage:

          Delivery restrictions to remote areas
Items fulfilled by Amazon AU and Amazon Global Store products are not eligible for delivery to the following postcodes: 6799, 6798, 4875, 2899 and 2898.

          Delivery restrictions to other areas
There are also certain products that we are unable to ship to select areas for business, operational and regulatory reasons as well as due to the specific nature of the product. To ensure you receive the most accurate delivery information, update your postcode in the navigation bar at the top of each page. Delivery availability, delivery charges and speeds for your shipping address will be confirmed during checkout before you complete your order.

This webpage does not advise which postcodes are “restricted” and what types of items are restricted. Amazon AU should at least advertise which postcodes are “restricted” on their website, because Amazon AU knows this: an Amazon rep recently told this commenter their postcode was “restricted”. Amazon AU already advise which postcodes cannot have hazardous materials delivered to them, so it is not as though they do not already advertise some delivery postcode restrictions.

The odd thing is that these “restricted” postcodes are still able to receive some items shipped by Amazon AU, but it is hard to figure out what is okay and what is not. When I had a look at a few items on Monday to see what kind of items you could get delivered to a “restricted” postcode (2340), the results perplexed me:

          • +1

@WookieMonster: It may simply come done to margin. If the product doesn't have enough margin to cover the cost of freight, you can't get it and it then becomes extremely item specific. Your examples of Apple products would make sense here, with the other products likely having higher margin.

Already done that a few times

  • +16

Amazon delivery for rural areas has been getting much worse over the last few months. It seems like 30% of the items I try to buy cannot be delivered to rural areas.

Amazon hides these items as "unavailable" if you are logged in but as soon as you log out you can see that the items are actually available for metro areas.

    • +6

a bit of a slap in the face, isn't it? I don't expect same day delivery but I don't think I should be denied access to 1/3 of the grocery category either

      • +1

Might be due to them only wanting people close enough to the amazon warehouse for economic feasibility.

        • +4

I don't doubt that but they're happy to take the same amount of money off me as a guy in Sydney. In addition to bragging about what postcodes are getting next day delivery they should also be transparent about which postcodes are subject to reduced services so people can make an informed decision on whether it's worth it

    • +3

Things I’ve ordered in the past now no longer able to be delivered - things I can’t get anywhere else

    • +4

Yeah we ended up cancelling prime because of this, plus the ads in the streaming.

      • Don't don't block the ads? I was able to block them using a device-wide ad filter on my fire stick.

    • How rural are we talking?

      • +5

        Parramatta?

        • Haha

    • Yeah It's getting more difficult. I would pay extra for the prime fee to get a guaranteed delivery.

I've also noticed if I select a semi rural address & my parents metro address, my item increases by around 20%.

  • +2

Cant get enough Prime here… we need Prime harder, faster, stronger. Prime now!

Cheers for that. They didn't mention Melbourne on their announcement. I will update the post.

Edit: I tried to edit post but it doesn't allow me. I have reported to mods to fix.

    • Brisbane when 🥲

when they get faster horses & bigger carts.

We should have kept the trams

        • Hah

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I swear they use them on the Goldie.
we live up a hill, and quite a few times this year, something is out for delivery but doesn't make it for a day or two.

    • Interesting that 3000 and 3006 (southbank) and 3008 (docklands) is excluded.

  • +3

    using the new metro ?

    • +3

That should be advertised as "same hour Metro Delivery" , followed by multiple hourly emails "the courier on platform 2 is delayed by …. 55 minutes, sorry for any inconvenience caused"

  • +1

How good is Amazon, wish auspost could be that efficient

    • yawn

To be fair, aupost already much better than what they used to be. One thing that is irritating when they card it - post office is only 9-5 mon-fri, FFS.

  • Yeah heard on radio this morning.
    Thanks for confirming OP !

  • +1

Same day delivery been available for months already in VIC, unless I missed something?
    But yeah, good times!

    • Been available at my postcode for at least 6 months

    • Free same day delivery? Always been $9.99 for me when ordering to one of the postcodes in the comment above.

      • Yup, free with $49 spend! Have had it for months to 3183

    • I'm in the same boat - slightly confused by this post because I thought free same-day delivery had already been available on orders over $49 for ages.

  • +5

Meanwhile 'regional' areas are cutting culled like no tomorrow. So many things cannot be delivered to my address anymore.

I used to be next day postage, and it was, Auspost has zero issues delivery next day via express post to my address. Then that just vanished (despite still being on the express postage list of postcodes). Ok not the end of the world, it's usually a few days anyway. Now that's just gone as well, can't even order a lot of things. Just simply not an option. The post code change trick no longer works either, flags it during checkout and won't let me proceed.

  • I get an Amazon delivery every other day, prime is probably the only subscription service that is worth it.
Maybe other than half price OnePass.

    • Go tell eBay that.

  • Hopefully they add Perth to this, not holding my breath though.

  • How is this a bargain?

  • Idk what it is, but prime has been atrocious for me recently, particularly for consumer electronics and things a little pricier.

I ordered an SSD which was delayed for an unknown reason, cancelled and reordered - it arrived next day. INIU power bank they never properly attempted delivery - missed call from Amazon, no one out the front and they claimed they couldn't find the entrance.

Now I've ordered a field recorder and 6 days later haven't been charged nor has it been shipped.. They just keep pushing the delivery date out.

On the upside, after cancelling the first INIU power bank they refunded and it arrived anyway.

    I'm in metropolitan Melbourne.

  • +1

Hasnt this been around for a while? Atleast in Melbourne for a while, i got an option to increase my cart to $49 for same day delivery.

  • I thought delivery is always free after paying $79 subscription? Isn't it just a T&C thing rather than real bargain? Also, I thought there is no minimum spend after paying $79

    • Free SYD & MEL Same Day Delivery

      • Cool! But even for next day delivery, always hit and miss anyway

  • -1

    Different than Brisbane inner city.

What had been guaranteed next day (and sometimes same day) delivery is now 2-3 days.

And forget it if your delivery is due on a Friday. The lazy shits head home early and you never, ever get your order on the Friday and instead are waiting another 1-3 days.

Amazon with their usual, give incentives when they enter a new country and once developed start make cuts to their delivery speed and customer service (which has also been pathetic lately).

    Lucky for you Sydney shoppers.

    • -1

I would call Sydney and Melbourne markets developed and they are in fact increasing service levels.

    • +1

That's weird, I can get my deliveries 7 days a week, next day for a lot of items in Brisbane inner city.

  • This is cool. Interestingly I live 5 mins away from a distribution centre (Melton) and yet it's not covered lol.

  • I call BS. I bought an item 2 days ago and before checking out it said same day delivery if ordered in the next 2hr. Then after I checked out it said being delivered the next day.

    • Go on Amazon Customer Service chat and sort it out. Easy az.

  • +2

I call BS - I have tried this so many times as I am in the eligible postcodes in Vic, and not once have I ever received same-day, even when making purchases at 6am.

What they say is one thing, but what they can do is…. optional? I cant even get next day delivery in Vic Metro - most things are now taking 2 days to arrive

    • +1

yep same here, came to say the same thing

  • Is it available in Sydney CBD? Can't see 2000 postcode on there

    • Yeah weird … Same with Melbourne CBD 3000 is not in the list above. Maybe parking problem?

      My postcode is covered :)
