And I thought it was already pretty good that I could order something at 9pm and get it the next day…

  • +10

    Moist

  • +19

Without the wide range of fresh produces and groceries like Amazon Japan and Amazon US offer
I don't see the need for same day delivery
Next day delivery for prime is already satisfactory.

    • +5

Progress is incremental. Although, in a country of our population density, it’s quite hard to get that right.

      • +33

I think there are 2 cons here
        1. Within a year Amazon will say delivery cost is high and we will increase prime membership fee, just like in the US, while same day delivery isn't really attractive here
        2. I feel bad for their employees and self contracted drivers under extra pressure

        • +2

I agree with you. I certainly won’t be complaining if my orders are slightly late (although their systems probably will report on it anyway).

        • Seems like it'll be a win-lose situation. :(

    • Would Amazon Fresh be feasible in Australia?

      • -1

Not now but maybe we’re a technology breakthrough away from a way to do it.

        • +5

          Oooooh, teleportation machine?

    • +2

Totally agree, I even consider next day delivery as extravagant. Especially after reading this news article.

    Amaz(on)ing stuff!

As previous users mentioned, one-day Prime delivery was already a sweet enough deal. Not going to turn down an extra perk though

    • +12

I’m happy with next day delivery as long as they don’t increase membership fee.

  • +2

    Brisbane when :(

I need my impulse buys faster!!

  • +2

Examples of any items that can be same day delivered? Everything I’ve bought has at best been delivered next day.

    • +1

I believe most of them are groceries items, I have added 3 packs of Lavazza Coffee Beans into the cart.

      Choose your Prime delivery option:
Same Day Delivery (Home Only) get it TODAY, Mar 24 between 6pm - 9pm
FREE One-Day Delivery : get it Tomorrow, Mar 25

Eligible items… select postcodes… I hate all kinds of discrimination

    • +1

And only orders over $49, only for prime customers? /s

    • +1

Because they can totally get an item not in the local warehouse and deliver it to a rural address in the same day

      • There’s always an excuse

  • Amazon always improves their best service better.
    Quicker than quicker!

Local delivery and post carrier: I cant see anything, we are providing best service ever.

  • Interesting this started offering this. My order this week was delayed the first time in 2 years. I guess they were busy trying to deliver the same day orders.

  • How do they select the postcodes? I'm literally 20 mins from their Vic warehouse, yet my postcode isn't on the list, while stuff on the other side of the city is…

    • +2

Amazon has 4 warehouses in Melbourne + 1 in Craigieburn under construction
They probably select postcodes by considering whether there are enough demand in your area
whether there are enough prime members and how much + how often do they usually spend

      • +2

4? I only thought it was Dandenong and Raven Hall?

  • +3

And yet after 63 days, 2 orders, 2 attempts, 2 "out-for-delivery-for-over-a-week", 1 "oops-it-has-been-accidently-returned-to-Sydney", 2 refunds in broken English, and 0 apologies, someone in Perth is rather pissed off.

    • +20

Time for Perth to become a part of Australia.

      • -8

Yes, time for Perth to be treated like part of Australia (or is this the GST discussion all over again….?)

    • +1

Oh yes, fastway doing their best work :'(

  • Don't know how they offer free delivery on everything with freight costs these days

    • +5

Use their own drivers (as contractors) with highly programmed routes to maximise efficiency. Keep in mind the merchant of the item is paying selling fees, storage fees / picking fees to Amazon which they can use to offset delivery cost in addition prime membership subs. EBay on the other hand takes a 15% fee (also charged on the postage costs and gst built in to most items), then charges sellers to participate in eBay promotions, gives nothing back to sellers and leaves them to fend for themselves with sendle or Aust post. There is some serious genius behind the curtain at Amazon, if only the competitors would wake up and see on a macro level the game being played.

    • The seller still pay for the shipping when item is sold.

  • +5

I would like to shoot whoever put together those postcode lists. I thought I wasn't on the list, but then noticed half way through that the numbering restarts.

    Sort the whole list please!

    • Ha ha, same.

Amazon raises the bar on service again! Processing, posted and delivered same day! Those businesses who think it's ok to take 2 to 3 days to process an order should be worried now.

    • Obviously there are thousands of items on Amazon that take ages still to arrive that is better to order them from Aliexpress for a third of the price and delivery wait time are about the same time. I think maybe Amazon was also worried about that.

      • How are you finding Aliexpress? They really have upped their game recently. I vowed I would never buy from them years ago after getting screwed by sellers on refunds for defective media boxes. Now they are pretty good and returns have gone really smoothly for me even for change of mind items. Had an acrylic stand that came cracked the other day. Sent a pic and full refund on the same day. I was really surprised by that

        • I am happy so far. I bought a few items for the gym. Good quality and shipping was faster than expected. I haven’t had to return anything yet due to the fact that the items I purchased won’t need to be replaced as they don’t have moving parts and are not electrical.

  • -1

    All hail bezos

  • +4

Aust post really need to lift their game. Their slow postage is here to stay, they love the profits. Whilst im sure the board is happy that they are making record profit, they are killing the business that use them. Moves like this from amazon only make it worse.

    • +3

This is how Amazon will dominate in Australia, the little guy sending from his website or eBay via Australia Post is humiliated and poorly reviewed over and over again due to Australia Posts service speed.

    • Nailed it. Order something from an Australian retailer -who's store is 10 minutes drive from my home - on Thursday and it's shipped by Friday afternoon, processed by Aus post on Saturday, shipped to another state, notified that delivery expected Tuesday, arrives Wednesday.
Amazon - order Thursday night before going to bed, package already at the front door the next morning.

Somehow 3000 and 3004 not on the list. They don't want to deliver to offices?

    • Too far from Wearhouse and too much traffic congestion, thanks to bike lanes and tram tracks

      • They have 3002 and 3003, so that's at least partly not true.

      • +4

The city is overrated and slow. Thanks to COVID people are working at home instead. Seriously the introduction of trams and bike lanes really kills it. Cars can't really travel, it's burgeoning with other modes of public transport. It's a mess to say the least.

      • +3

Bikes and trams both ease congestion, not sure if you can blame them.

      • too much traffic congestion, thanks to bike lanes and tram tracks

        Extremely short-sighted.

It's always somebody else's fault when in fact drivers are contributing to the city congestion by… you guessed it: driving into the city.

      • Traffic congestion thanks to cars not bicycles and trams. Stop using your car in the city and it will be all good.

  • +17

Meanwhile over at Australia Post. “please wait until 15 business days after the expected delivery date before making a late item enquiry” https://auspost.com.au/service-updates/domestic-delivery-tim…

    • +3

Not to mention the stores who say please allow up to 5 days to process. I paid for express postage from a store recently and it took them 2 days to process and they only got it to the post office in the afternoon so it missed the express post collection time, and then they got defensive about it when I queried them about it. Pointless to have express postage when the processing time is so slow anyway

  • my delivery address on the Eligible Postcodes list, but still can't get same day free delivery, only get “Free delivery tomorrow”. But I find $9.99 same day delivery
    option.

Same day, next day and weekend deliveries are great and all but I wish the delivery drivers they use could figure out what a parcel box is. So many packages thrown over the fence on the ground right behind my parcel box since they stopped using professional delivery services.

  • Nice

  • Not gonna lie. Amazon's deliver service is otherworldly. I would always rather support a local business but the quick delivery of Amazon is epic and hard to resist.

  • Op to update. Brisbane and Perth also have locations.

    • Brisbane and Perth are paid same day delivery.

  • Now if only they could solve the secure delivery device problem so packages are always delivered and don't end up at a collect spot or stolen.

    • Lookup AmazonKey it’s only in the US for now but sure to make an appearance here.

They will just leave the parcel in your garage. Less garages obv in Australia but still possible in suburbia. There also used to be Amazon key where they had access to a smart lock and would just enter your house.

  • When does Adelaide get this. It can't be that expensive to build a distribution centre here.

Adelaide does have an Amazon facility now at least. It’s not a delivery centre but a hub for all the Amazon flex workers to pick up their parcels.

I’m amazed that Amazon hasn’t got a proper center in adelaide yet though - it can’t be far off given bris, Mel, Perth and Sydney have them, with Sydney and Melbourne going onto their 2nd and 3rd.

My postcode is on there but they might be rolling out slowly. Same day is not free for me yet :(

Negging this because every same day order I've placed has changed to next day after ordering. I've met the time and minimum order requirements and it tells me same day by 9pm prior to ordering.

    • I'd almost be inclined to contact them about this.

      • Last same day order took three days to deliver. Contacted them. "Sorry staff shortages, covid"

        • That's all they have to say nowadays, one word; "Covid!"

          • @HamBoi69: More honestly they should be blaming el Nina. "Sorry raining, gig economy work force doesn't want to work today". Done blame them.

It doesn't matter if they deliver it same day or one day as long as they don't have the rang of products available on the website. The range is very limited and 60 % of the products have to be imported from the U.S
