I tried it in-store. It's a pretty neat device, but I'm used to using an EVF.
But it's excellent for those who want a slim form factor, Phase Hybrid Autofocus, and the Real-time LUT feature - for those who don't want to spend hours after their holidays processing their images in Photoshop.

Features:
LUMIX's Smallest and Lightest Full Frame Camera
Custom Signature Presets with REALTIME LUT
Shoot & Share to Social in 30s with LUMIX LAB App
Fast + Intelligent Ai Focusing with Phase Hybrid AF
Social Media Ready with One Take Versatile Video Framing
Massive 96MP Handheld High Resolution Capture
Super Smooth Stabilisation with Active IS (Sensor + Lens + EIS)
Extend your zoom with new zoom functionality

Besides the little graphics there is no information on the bonus lens and how to redeem it.

Here is Panasonic's blog about the bonus lens and how to redeem it.

Awesome value - but isn't it cheaper elsewhere eg

    https://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/panasonic-lumix-s9…

Albeit pre-order so may be a wait time.

    • Thought this was parallel importer?

      • No dcw been around since 2001

        And from their website:

        Are your cameras ‘grey market’?
Digital Camera Warehouse has not, does not and will not sell ‘grey cameras’.

        • Oops, my bad. Good to know.

      • 'Been an Australia retailer for as far as I remember. I have bought from them before.

      • nah i got my Zony 35mm sonnar through them, they're legit

  • The S9 is a supposed to be a niche product that I don't understand what it’s for and who they targeted. It’s got no viewfinder, no mechanical shutter, no hotshoe, no dedicated controls. It’s meant primarily for videographers, but only allows 10 minutes of 4k video so I don’t know if it’s a good camera.

If you know what you’re getting ok, but quite a few Panasonic fans have been disappointed with this. Probably confused too

I’d go with either Fujifilm x100vi or sony a7iii for an overall camera

      overall camera

      A7iii - fair enough

X100vi - ? That’s also a pretty niche camera - like 35mm equivalent focal length? Well you better because that’s it lol (short of the converter add ons…)

    • +2

It is not meant to be an "overall camera", Lumix S5 II already has that job. It is targetting different use cases, portable interchangeable lens full frame and vlogging purposes. a7 iii=old sensor, old tech. X100vi=fixed lens APSC (definitely not an "overall camera"). Neither are direct competitors.

The basic premise of the S9 is that it's designed to simplify and speed-up the social media workflow. The goal is to allow content creators to generate photos or videos ready to publish straight out of the camera without additional editing in other applications.

X100Vi is hell niche, don't let tik tokers fool you lol.

    • I have the S5IIX and that I would say qualify for better overall camera. I paid around $2100 for body only brand new. I don't need that f8 lens anyway for free :p

  • Finally, this camera is now going down in price.

I think based on the trend of S5II and S5IIX, the reasonable price should be around 70% of the launch price, which is about $2,999 * 0.7 = $2,099. If you are already waiting for this since launch probably think about getting the $2199 pre-order mentioned by @RayEarth2133.

Sometimes, Amazon AU will randomly match some price so you may even get same day free shipping etc for $2,300 or even $2,200.

Alternatively, you can wait for eBay 17-20% off, which should bring the price to around $2,099 target, and you normally get free express shipping too with eBay Plus.

  • F8? Lol

  • needs to be cheaper still. no hot shoe, no physical shutter

    • will probably cost peanuts on the used market in years to come

  • I'd buy it if it came with the new 18-40mm. They need to release it already. Have my doubts we'll see it before the bonus lens promo ends.
