Plenty of other games available. Also the list is of games elegible is available here:

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/games-trade-in-offers?srslti…

    • Damn looks like I'll never be able to get rid of my Mario Tennis Aces game…

    • Clicking the "view trade in titles" takes me nowhere, nothing loads. Would be interested to see if Jedi Survivor and Hogwarts Legacy are on the list.

      • Not on the list under PS5

  • +6

The JBHifi trade in titles are like recently released triple A games… better off going to EB games I reckon

    • +1

Big range of Switch titles you can trade in here but yes PS5/Xbox list is small

    • +2

Yeah, being able to actually see the list at JB is nice, EB's criteria is that it only has to be worth $10 trade value though which means I've been able to flog even old 2022 titles for some of their trades.

In any case I love that both of these stores are offering them at all, and I've been leapfrogging from new release to new release for the last few months already at no or very little cost 😀

    • This is very situational.

At EB Games, Astro Bot is $109.95. If you trade in 2 PS5, XBOX or Switch games worth at least $10, it'll cost $39.
At JB-Hifi, Astro Bot is $89. If you trade in 2 PS5, XBOX or Switch games that are a bit newer (list of games available), it'll cost $0.

So depending on what games you have available to trade it, either EB Games or JB-Hifi could be the better option. As someone that has 2 of the newer games listed on JB Hifi's accepted list of games, I'll take my my $0 Astro Bot from JB Hifi.

Luigi's Mansion 3 + Kirby And The Forgotten Land
    seems good for me.

    • +2

Cost you more in the long run buying them again once you realise you miss them.

      • +5

I own these games digitally and I don't think I've ever re-installed them again once beaten.

I guess some of us just like to one-and-done singleplayer games; especially these days when the backlog is insurmountable and there's dozens of stuff on the wantlist coming out near-monthly. I don't have time to replay past titles even if I wanted to =(

        • Wait a few years when Nintendo turns off the switch online servers and you can't download them anymore. Like they did with the Wii and Wiiu and Ds. Never buy digital copies of Nintendo games.

          • @bomberswarm2: I'm not being some Nintendo Shill here and yeah that absolutely would suck, I'm just saying that apart from my morning exercise games like Fitness Boxing 2 and Zumba - I don't go back into my old library much these days since we're spoiled for choice.

Time was I would buy the NSO vouchers (and a lot of the time using cheap Store cards that have been 15-20% off at places like coles) just to get the cheapest available pricing. More and more these days however physical has been insanely cheap (All those $30 Harvey Norman deals in 2022 like Kirby and Metroid Dread, 13 Sentinels for $21 from Big W the other week, and these Trade promos from EB/JB) so I'm definitely more inclined to go physical when the pricing is right and it makes sense.

With rumours swirling of Switch 2's backward compatibility I would hope that at the very least next gen is safe with the digital libraries.

    • This comment is pure sacrilege, like I'm horrified.

  • +1

Nice try JB but EB are way better with their trade offers at the moment

    • whats the better deal?
i think i see trade 2 games and pay $40 for astrobot

      • +2

        Game selection is wider

      • +2

it depends if you have the eligible games, i was going to trade my 2 games at eb and pay the $39, turns out the games were accepted at JB so i am essentially saving the $39

I thought it was Astro Boy for a moment there.

  • +3

Never trade. You will regret it when your library looks bleak.

    • +2

When I was a kid friends would buy new releases and we'd all swap, so we all got to play them.

    • What do you mean "looks bleak"?

  • JB sell second hand games in-store? Is this a new thing?

    • +3

      Ancient thing

    • Wow. I only have 4 of the eligible PS5 titles and honestly I'd expect a 1:1 trade for them! EB deal is way better as others have already said.

      • for PS5 trades yes, but if you are trading nintendo switch games, this is the better deal, i bought pokemon violet almost 2 years ago for $35 brand new and traded it along with pokemon brilliant diamond today getting essentially $44.50 trade value for each game, check Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace, hopefully people in your local area are selling pokemon or mario games for like $20 then use them to trade so you get the game for the $40 but keep all your PS5 games

        • Fair enough but I only have PS5

    • Oh my god, thank you. When I clicked it on three of my browsers nothing even happened.

Does anyone know what happens if you dont have the box? I only have the cartridge.

      • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
      • Yoshi's Crafted World

      No box though :(

      • As per their website, they won't accept it without the original case.

Check the eligible trade-in titles below and make sure your games are in good condition with their original case.

That being said, my local JB has quite a few games that are being sold with a blank case on the shelf with the title written in Sharpie. I have no clue if they are trade ins or not (most that I've seen are PS4 or Xbox One titles)

I'd suggest bringing them in and asking? Maybe they'll be more lenient if you're there dealing face to face, rather than over the phone or online.

  • +2

    Actually hyped for this game.

I finally played Astro Playroom last week to see what the game is about and ended up Platinum'd it.
Loved the concept, so many Easter Eggs in relation to other Playstation's IP.
Reminding me that they have big legacy in gaming.

  • How do you pre-order this with the trade-in? When you pre-order, you have to pay the full amount at checkout. And the pre-order has extra content like a poster and some items.

    • +1

      Probably in-store

  • Can someone please provide the EB Games list of eligible games to trade for the $39 deal? Thanks

    • +1

A current one doesn't exist in public knowledge, but a good rule of thumb is that anything with a pre-owned price of over $30 should work.

You can also give your local EB a ring and just rattle off a list of games you have in mind.

  • Heads up, my local JB had no idea about this deal. Brought the page on their website up on my phone and they called the manager over who ended up sorting it out. But yeah doesn't seem to be widely socialised.

    • Interesting. Quite the opposite for me. I took it into a store, said I wanted to pre-order Astro Bot and said there was currently a deal and they loaded it up on their aging Trade-In system and sure enough there was a Astrobot Trade in deal special.

One of the staff did say that JB Hifi is phasing out the trade-in game process so fewer and fewer people are doing it and less people know how to do it in the business.

      • I didnt even know it was a thing until this post

        • +1

Its been a thing as far back as early 2023, the first one I remember was for Resident Evil 4 Remake.

  • Anyone know what happens if you dont have the box for the games?

    • +1

Lower value, probably not accepted for this deal. Or maybe the games aren't even accepted. I've only seen generic covers at EB Games.

    • I had a generic box or rather an EB box when I did one of these trade before and they were fine with it, cant hurt to ask maybe could depend on staff/store. Pretty sure they would have a lot of spare game boxes lying around

  • this is much better to know the games on the list.
unlike Eb where we have to call or take the games and then pay on top of it.

    Heading to JB soon

  • 🤓 NBA2K games should be included in the list!
