My Amazon Buyer Account Was Deactivated. Any Idea?

Just a normal buyer but I used a few gift cards for purchases. This morning when I opened my Amazon App a message popped up like We have deactivated your Amazon account due to noncompliance with our terms and rules.

Anyone know what to do?

Have been using Amazon AU since 2019. Only one thing is I added a Latitude Go Mastercard days ago for the $15 credit.

I have 2 addresses which are my workplace and home.

  • Many returns? That has seemed to be the recurring theme previously for people who were banned/deactivated.

    • No returns at all.

I am suspecting if it is because yesterday I bought some paper towels that were meant to normally be subscribed to my home but I used my workplace that I never subscribed anything to.

Hmmm… I've bought stuff for my mum and/or in-laws and had it delivered directly to her/their houses. I figure delivery costs will be incurred whether to me or to another's house.

However, they were only one off purchases, not subscriptions.

      • +2

        I doubt that's the issue.

I S&S items for both home and office.

Probably your work address was banned due to someone else doing something, then you using it just got your own account flagged.

      • +2

Perhaps someone else used your work address and returned a lot and maybe had many accounts and your's got flagged as suspicious because of that (??)

        • I really have no idea because I work in a small family company. The driver will leave the Amazon parcels on the front desk and when I collect them normally I only see parcels under my name were delivered to the company address.

We have no idea nor acn do anything about this.

      OP should ask Amazon directly

This would be one of my fears for Amazon which is why I started only having minimal amounts in gift card balance. Previously I would have several hundred in gift card balance to capitalise from deals etc.

Have you tried contacting Amazon chat?

Keep us updated of the situation.

    • It wont allow me to log in my account at the moment so I find no place to appeal.

      • I hope you didn't have much credit in your account…THey've taken it all and you have no recourse really.

      • +3

Ugh.. There used to be a number that one could call (I never did), but it's gone. You're right that all 'help services' are now stuck behind login. I tried seeing if ANY contact details were available to non-logged in customers, but none exist it seems.

Did they send an email about the account cancellation? There might be some contact information on that if so.

For transparency: My motivation to assist is only because, again, I fear this happening to me so want to be armed with info ahead of time in that event! :p

        • Thanks for the thoughts. No email was sent in regards of my account deactivated which is the weirdest part.

            @Blok: Try calling this number

@Gervais fanboy: Thanks Gervais. Will call definitely.

            • @Gervais fanboy: It seems they no longer use this line as when I call it terminates automatically after selecting options.

                @Blok: That’s strange
After reading your reply, I called that number and it only took 80 seconds before I was connected with someone.
Maybe try calling from a number that’s not linked to your account.
Or dm me your number, I’ll use the support section in my app to get them to call you. Hopefully that helps.

  • Have you signed up to and then cancelled many subscribe and save items?

    • I did some but not many.

      • -1

Purely a guess from my behalf, but if you signed up to a few and cancelled after receiving it once or twice it wouldn't surprise me if that's the reason. I'm not agreeing that's the right thing for Amazon to do, but if you put yourself in their shoes and someone gets the cheaper price on different items repeatedly then cancels after receiving it a handful of times then it would likely upset them.

        • +21

Don't people do this all the time?

          • @lint: No idea, it’s just a thought I had

        • +13

Doubtful, ive done it '00s of times.

        • +9

And one of the cancellation reason options is even wanting to get it cheaper.

        • Seems a bit silly of Amazon to outright ban users. Would make more sense to revoke the ability to use subscribe and save

          • +1

@FireRunner: Or have buyers commit to a minimum acceptable (to Amazon) number of S&S deliveries.

  • +4

Create another account and ask them to call you back.

  • Were you a prime member?

    • +1

Yes being a prime member for 4 years.

  • +14

Another possible theory is that someone else in your workplace abused the system, and Amazon just banned all accounts that link to the same address.

  • +1

Just a long shot this but is your delivery address in some remote location maybe?

Also, do you have other people using your prime account? Sharing Prime Video with others?

    • +1

No I am located in Sydney and I work at 2143 while live at 2017, both are within Sydney area.

    • +1

i've done frequent deliveries to my brother interstate (he returns more than I do) and even o/s and never been flagged so dont think this is it either

  • +1

I had my account banned from being able to make reviews for “violating” the terms and conditions.

Apparently buying items using coupon codes posted on bargain sites makes your reviews fake. The best part is that I found out when I went to leave a negative review.

    • I have never made any reviews nor used any coupon codes for being too lazy.

  • +3

I'm getting scared now lol. Thinking back… I seem to do all of the above.

  • +1

Did you add your go latitude card for the promo and then immediately cancel the card? I'm not sure the promo is supposed to work after the card is cancelled?

    • Oh that's good to know, I've still got that $15 balance on Amazon but I'm planning to cancel my Latitude 28 Degrees card in a few weeks now that they're introducing an $8 monthly fee. Better find something to spend that $15 on before I cancel the card…

    • +1

I applied to cancel the card but Ive got $2 balance in my account that prevents me from the account clousure request.

  • +1

The good part is the paper towels were delivered despite my account is still frozen.

  • -5

I hear if you refuse to participate in product reviews they shut your account down for non participation :/

    • +2

I have never made a review and have not been shut down.

      • yet ….

    • +3

Come on, ain’t no way they would do that. That’s beyond crazy.

      • +1

Yet, in the T&Cs for Prime ;)

Always worth reading T&Cs! Even if you think there is no way they would enforce them …

        • +3

Fair enough but out of curiosity, I just went through them. There’s nothing of that sorts mentioned there.

To save you time, if it was there, it would have been under

          1. YOUR AMAZON ACCOUNT
          2. REVIEWS, COMMENTS, COMMUNICATIONS AND OTHER CONTENT

Where did you read what you are saying here?

      • +3

Hard to imagine any business on earth saying "we don't want any more of your money because you didn't review the stuff you previously gave us money for".

  • This is interesting hope to hear more

  • Obe more reason to avoid giving money to Bezos.

  • +2

Came across this on a Reddit post about the same issue. May be worth a try.

I also emailed [email protected] as I read this email would work and later I got a response from [email protected] telling me my account was reinstated. Thank you all for your help

  • @Blok have you figured it out?

  • Gift cards, yeah…. nah!!
