          • @User889344: I'm not a fan of HN, but JB will only accept certain phone for Trade In. With HN you can send any worthless piece of crap that vaguely resemble a phone and still get $1000 off

PSA: the HN deal was supposed to end yesterday (19/8/24) but they extended it to match JB, I learned that today when I was trading in my piece of crap.

@Brotality: Did you get one year of Mobile Freedom?

              • @bogstation: Nope.
I have Samsung care on my current Fold 4 and I never used it.
I felt the price was too high and I'm not planning to keep the phone past its warranty period.

                • @Brotality: I thought one year was included.

                  • @bogstation: No one mentioned anything about it being included when I was at HN, I've checked my invoice and I do see "Mobile Freedom" on there, but it also says excluding product care, so which thing applies? lol

                    Anyway, screenshot below

                    • @Brotality: Looks like you have it. Can swap for next year's model for $299.

                      • @bogstation: Only issue with that is the Pixel 9 Series came out within 12 months of the 8 Series. I swear I read on the T&Cs that you can upgrade in 12 months and a grace period of 30 days. If they launch again at a weird period it may fall outside of the 12 month window.

I've read quite a few people paid the extra $249 for 2 years.

              • @bogstation: Is this mobile freedom supposed to be included in the $69 plan with $999 up front?

            • @Brotality: what happens if you dont send the device, they deduct the tradein value?

              • @fadzsolz: My understanding from the T&C's, is that they will charge your credit card a $60ish penalty, as well as never refunding the charge they are holding on your CC.

  • When does it end this offer

    • Says trade in phone before 11 September but not sure if that applies considering the pre order release of your phone is 4 September

The smartphone I wanted to trade in, and get the bonus $1000, a Pixel 3a wasn't a option with JBHIFI, I went there first, online, no option, so then I went to Harvey Norman, I would have used JBHIFI if I had a choice, but I am happy with the $1001 trade in, towards the Fold 2.

  • I've been thinking of the Mobile Extras for $249 which JB re-sells (it's a SquareTrade warranty)

    • the T&C have mention of back glass but they have not updated text to cover foldables

    • there is no mention of transfer of Mobile Extras which is a problem. Does anyone know? I know when you sell a phone with Samsung Care Plus, you need to tell them who the new owner is or it's a big drama. I bought a refurb fold 3 which happened to have Care+ but I couldn't use it.

I wouldn't get a foldable phone without extra care, for example after remaining warrsnty expired, my fold 3 has stuck green pixels now. I bought a second fold 3 refurb from an eBay reseller (to migrate across) and the speaker stopped working after two weeks. Paid to send it back to them, they sent me one which didn't open 100% so I got a full refund.

So most people say "extra warranty is for suckers" but I think if I can get clarity on transfer of ownership of Mobile Extras when I sell the device in 18 months, it would be worthwhile.

    • I don't think JB intend to update the T&Cs to include foldables. It is likely it is already updated them for the purpose of excluding foldables. My thinking is they want you to pay the refurb price rather offer a folding screen replacement for $45.

Possible some people purchased Mobile Extras for Z Fold and Z Flip instead of Samsung Care in the past but not sure if that's offered by JB.

  • Is this still working for HN? Was going to trade in my old Oppo
When I go to the trade in promo page I dont see any mention of the $1000 fold just another phone and a watch etc

    • I think it expired yesterday but someone here said it was extended so try calling them or go in store.

    • Just did the deal today in store at HN

  • +2

This deal was extended until 11 September 2024 :) just FYI

  • Can these be considered a tablet for the purposes of FBT exempt? Think about salary sacrificing it. It is essentially a tablet when folded open, and the ATO does not clearly define it.

  • Just finalised my preorder and totalling $838.93
    & here’s how did it:
    $1000 trade-in bonus + $455 (value for my phone)
$700 voucher (yes, put towards the transaction buying the phone) for signing up to $79/month JBHIFI mobile upfront plan.
$200 off the RRP cos the staff member was awesome.
$30 off when you spend $300 in-store (ends today).
    Total $2697-$2385=$312 paid in-store today.
& then $526.93 to cancel my Telstra phone plan and confirmed no reprimand to payback the $700 voucher.

Big thanks to everyone in the thread for showing me it’s possible.

    • Which JB Hifi and what's the name of the staff member that served you?

    • Well done. I tried to ask for a price match the Google store with a student code on the chat but they directed me to a physical store as they can't check student IDs online.

    • +1

How is it $526.93 telstra cancellation? Thought it was $800

    • Great deal mate well done.Anyway of doing this via their website chat - I'm currently overseas at the moment. Mostly the trade-in bonus + plan voucher. (Also thought the $79 plan was a $550 voucher?).

  • So wait is this like Samsung trade in where you can just not send the phone in and get charged non-return fee + value of the traded in phone? Do you get the bonus $1000 straight away after going through jb trade-in portal? I was thinking of doing this today and just picking it up in-store.

    • Yes it is like that but it isn't instant, you get a voucher that takes a few minutes to arrive in your inbox.

  • Item is now on back order until 30th October for all models aside from the 512gb. Annoying cos I've ordered and had a trade in pending which won't work.
