          • @G-rig: The advantage of salary sacrificing is you do not need to declare a percentage or depreciate it over a number of years. It is immediate and upfront. However not all employers do it, so if you're interested, you need to check with your employer first to confirm.

            • @brainactive: yes that's what I was thinking. Will order anyway but the out of pocket doesn't exactly suit right now.

As I'm not buying an expensive model I'll just sort it at tax time, although may consider salary sacrifice at some point (would be $847 not incl. $250 GC).
Just a form for most companies but would have to be approved, and has to be 'primarily for use in my employment'. So it depends how much they care.

            • @brainactive: How do I workout what the true put of pocket cost is?

              • +1

@retnup: Out of pocket cost is $1847 in my example above. I believe you pay full RRP price then receive 2x$350 gift card. Then you receive $279 (or whatever your trade in device value is) back to your credit card. At the end of the year when all your taxes are done, you would have also payed $848 less tax than if you didn't buy the phone. If you add the benefits (2x350 + 279 + 848), it is exactly $1847, so the effective cost at the end of the year is effectively $0. May not be worth the hassle for some people (e.g. if you have no use for the gift cards, although keep in mind you could use those gift cards when you buy a new phone and do the same thing next year), but not bad in my opinion.

                • @brainactive: Not bad, you'd still have to get the out of pocket amount taken out of your pay in one hit, but your taxable income is already 'lowered' come tax time.

I will still get the cheaper model though, and just write it off.

        • Legend!!! Clear explanation…Thanks…
I think it's only applicable where employers allowed salary sacrifice :). Mine doesn't .

    • I beleive you will get invoice for $1497 = $1847 - $350.

      • I am wondering how the tax invoice will look. With or without the bonus or trade in listed.

        • +1

nah you get a receipt for the cost of deal - bonus trade in value.
phone trade and JB voucher doesn't come into it.

  • Anyone know when the Pixel 9 Pro small size will be released and if its likely to have a preorder deal?

Torn whether to get this or S24 deal that popped up the other day. Unfortunately JB doesnt stock the Garmin that I would use a voucher on.

  • World has gone mad.

    • +1

they probably said the same during the agricultural and industrial revolutions

  • +1

Anyone got the process on how to get this deal?

I put my trade in phone details in and am offered $250 for my phone. Where does the bonus $350 value come into play? I know the $350 gift card comes at a later date, but can't seem to find the bonus $350 for the trade-in.

    • The email voucher codes during the order process.

  • Was this Google telling Samsung they dont want to work together anymore?

The link was the video of the failed Gemini demo on S24 Ultra at the event

      • dunno what that has to do with screen protectors and cases.

It was a top level comment, unrelated to your question. Wasn't a reply to you.

  • Anyone with experience with these types of deals and future 28 deg price protection claims? Wondering how/if it will work with a trade-in deal as well as a small proportion of gift cards used. So say on the Pro XL 128GB, end up paying $1.1k on 28 deg CC overall roughly ($500 trade in total, $200 GC). Doing some mental maths whether to keep the card or not given i'd also be paying the new $8 fee pm. Thx in advance

    • +2

don't think I'd let $8 be the deciding factor.

I was thinking about it as well as keeping my eye on price drops on the Pixel 8 128GB over the past 10 months.
In theory you could maybe claim the drop in RRP we physically paid less with the trade in and trade in bonus discounts (and can ignore the GC for now).
I was tempted to try and claim drop in RRP but think is only $100 less in a previous BF post (and that may have been before the 300$ trade, so I think I still got the best deal in this case. It is $1187 at JB now.

I'm sure a couple of other price protect claims would cover the $8 a month during the year but up to you. Still a good card to travel with I think.

Under a new rewards program, you will be eligible for a $10 e-gift card every statement period from participating retailers when you spend $1,000 or more on eligible transactions in each statement period1.
      - Complimentary Purchase Protection Insurance will now be available covering the loss of purchases due to accidental damage or theft – up to $1,5002.
      - Complimentary E-Commerce Protection Insurance will now be available covering the non-delivery and/or incomplete delivery of online purchases – up to $1,5003.

    • Excuse my ignorance as I'm new around here. Are these deals exclusively online or available in store as well? Thanks

  • Is the 9 pro xl worth an upgrade from 8 pro xl?

    • Up to you, i had a quick look. no shortage of reviews and pages showing the difference.
It's all pretty marginal upgrades these days. Just depends how good the pre-release deals work out.
I won't continue getting one every year if the RRP keeps going up as well and the trade in value keeps going down as well.

  • Can you pay with gift cards?

  • I can't get the JB trade in process to work this time. I get through to the front/back license thing on my phone, it tells me to return to PC and press next, then it comes up and says verification failed. Tried 3 times now, same tripe. Annoying.
EDIT: just checked my account, I now have 3 'orders' for trade in. Just a crap UI I guess…

    • Did you check the data is actually correct?
Mine put an 8 instead of a B etc..
I had to do a few times and take better photos.
      Try portrait and landscape.

  • +1

looks like JB have stopped orders?
i always get this when trying to do the trade in process
"We are temporarily pausing new orders. Rest assured, we are working diligently to resume normal operations as quickly as possible."

      • $350 ends on 25/08

        • +1

          Yeah I meant 25/08.

The point is people should be able to order before then. The thing is will the 9 Pro pre-order be open before then or after.

  • Just checking if you can get a Pixel 9 Pro XL through JB on a Telstra $99 plan which gives you a $1700 gift card, trade in a phone for the bonus $350 + whatever you get for the trade in and get a bonus $350 gift card all in one transaction. I know the plan is high, but if you can combine it's not so terrible.
    $1700 Gift card from Telstra
    $350 Trade in bonus
$300 Let's say you get 300 for your trade in
    $350 Gift card
    $2700 Total in rewards
Minus phone ($1997) and plan ($2376)
Total cost over life of plan = $1673, monthly $69.71

    • No happy meals allowed unfortunately

  • So if you take the JB deal can the gift card be used at all for the phone as I noticed it ships later

It’s for my dad for the 9 pro XL
Trading in iPhone 12 Pro $380
    $350 trade in bonus
    $350 JB gift card

Or is the gift card not able to be used in the same deal

    • +1

would be nice if you could haha.
they send the JB gift card after, check their site and it says as much..
just use it for next year's phone, or anthing else at JB, they don't expire.
      Better than Google Credit.

      • Cheers that’s what I thought

  • Just went for the Pixel 9 256GB, Storage is about 70% full, so it may future proof it a little (although usually get 128GB).
$150 more expensive is a rip but you seem to get $50 more trade in.

Think I may skip the Pixel 10 given the price rises and worse value every year). $899 for the Pixel 8 128GB seemed like a much better price looking at my order history.

  • just got 512 9 fold on pre purchase for $367 upfront and $99 a month, cancel anytime for $760 and keep the hardware. JB, you've done it again.

    • Lol no penalties for cancellations? What's min cost of contract over 24 months. Just get a boost Sim and buy outright.

PS. The pro just dropped on Google site, got an email.

      • All version of 9 Pro still say Out of stock — continue to waiting list.
JB now says Available 24 October

        • Just noticed that on their site but they have the trade in setup. Reads like it may not be operated by SquareTrade Australia (?).

The quote was $390 for pixel 8 128GB ($90 more is BS vs buying a pixel 9 not 9 Pro).

Just sussing it out before I send mine in or open the pixel 9.

Doesn't mention gift cards and no preorder. Wondering what the bonus is as well.

      • 99x24=2376. aldi cost $600 (i swapped from aldi). First month already paid so $800 voucher less $33.33 to buy it out. 5G isn't enough to keep me with Telstra I don't think. My 512 fold pro will cost me $1284.00 less $150 extra bonus salesman threw in ("to buy accessories") $1134.00 + $75 over and above my 25 aldi plan for first month Telstra 5G - the total cost for the hardware (Pixel Fold Pro 512) is $1209.00 all said and done.

  • HODL or buy it now? I want to buy this for missus birthday in end of September. Do I buy now with $250 GC or wait till another month to see if it reduces further?

    • Won't be cheaper than pre-release, maybe marginally cheaper in 9-10 months.
you got till 25/08 to decide.

    • +2

prerelease is cheapest time to buy

  • Be interesting to see what kind of deals on the 9 pro today, apparently available from 24/10.

  • Is there any cheap device I can trade in and later cancel the trade, just to get the trade-in bonus? Previously, you could skip entering serial numbers for watches, but it seems they've now made it mandatory.

  • -1

What a complete waste of time - just had JB cancel my last 3 attempted orders due a supposed 'verification' error. No doubt I will also be charged 3x by Assurant for the failed trade-ins too.

    • -1

Sounds like a cluster.. 3x $300 charges Or whatever wouldn't be very nice. Seems like the square trade-up system worked okay.

Any idea what the GC would be for the 9 Pro?
Don't think I can be fagged waiting for it so may set up the 9 and send the 8 back. Not buying the phone for AI.

    • Hey mate howd you go with this? Getting my orders cancelled too. Were the pending assurant charges refunded?

    • check your ID details were exactly correct

  • For the one bought this outright online, how long normally until we get the $350 giftcard in the email? I picked up the phone over the weekend, and the staff said that I'll get it in the email (because I ordered online) soon, like in a day or 2, but still nothing so far.

    • +2

Doesn't it say somewhere within 10 days?
I'd allow that or up to 2w from experience.

      • Ok, thanks, I remember reading it somewhere too, but the offer no longer there, so can't find it anymore

  • Anyone going to bother waiting for 24 Oct for P9 pro?
I could return the P9 or just set it up and not worry about the Pro.

Still not much info for pre-order/deals as far as bonus and gift cards.

    • +1

I am waiting and will wait for the 10 Pro if the bonuses and trade in are not as good as the Fold & XL.

      • Hmm maybe I should return the 9 and get some cash back now then.. the 8 to 9 isn't much of an upgrade (although went for 256 this time)

        • @G-rig Still waiting. Are you returning the 9 for the 9 Pro or sticking with an 8?

          • +2

@Sammy2000: Returned the 9, was unopened and not much of an upgrade to the 8, so will get a 9 pro 256.

Trade in for P8 128 is $90 more, in theory they should have more bonus trade in discount and gift card value too hopefully (but not much info yet). Hopefully good deal as I got refunded in gift cards FFS. Would still get a proper tax invoice so whatever. If the deal is shit then could wait for the 10 Pro, but usually buy the odd numbers (but as mentioned the RRP and deals are getting worse every year since they are trying to be like apple).

  • Anyone actually get their $350 gift card yet?

    • +1

Not yet either. Hoping it comes soon, don't want to have to deal with customer service or go into the store :/

    • +2

I haven't gotten mine either. I'll contact them on Friday if it doesn't turn up on Thursday.

    • +1

      Still waiting here…

    • +1

I asked about the gift card online - got the following canned response: "Please allow up to 14 business days from order completion (dispatched or collected) for your gift card to be emailed to the email used at checkout."

      • So could be up to 11/9 if you picked up on 22/8? I'm hoping tomorrow… Not that I have anything to buy.

      • Oh business days now. Interesting

    • +1

      Still nothing

      • +1

        Yep same, 14th day today.

        • I guess next week then since we're coming towards close of business.

    • What you getting?
      Just have to wait..

    • +1

      Just got mine via email

      • +1

        I got mine too.

        • +1

Came here to say got mine too. Woohoo! I was expecting it next week…

      • That's good, at least some are getting it now. I haven't yet tho (picked up 22/08)…hopefully Monday

      • Same

    • Got mine today

      • Same, just got mine too, picked up on the 24/8, so about 14 days

      • Yep me too.

  • Anyone had their trade in processed? My trade in still says order received. It is taking so long. They're not accepting new orders either so maybe they're inundated with trade ins?
