Also offering bonus $800 trade credit towards the 9 Pro Fold @ JB-Hi-Fi.

    • +1

      Added, thanks

      • HN doing $1000 trade in to the 18th it seems too

        • More details? Like banner in store? Can't find it on their HN website.

        • +1

Wonder if that's a BONUS trade in.

Filled in the form and it said my Pixel 7 Pro was worth $323 ($950 on Google page trade in)

BUT does it mean $323 PLUS $1000 (they keep calling it BONUS trade in).

          $1323?

THAT would seem amazing after nearly two years on a $1800 phone.

Anyone know? I'm recovering from back surgery and can't drive to visit a store at the moment and previously I've only ever gotten plebs on the phone who don't know anything when I've had to call them :(

        • Hey was wondering if Harvey Norman (Asurion) do trade in for phones not listed on their website? Like I have old Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro but they have only listed P30 and P30 Pro on their trade in website but they have an option to select "Other" with a message to get up to $1*. Has anyone done trade in of an phone model not directed listed by HN? And can we only trade in phones or any other item in the category to get $1000 trade in bonus towards Pixel 9 Fold? Thanks.

          • +1

@alphawolf: You can trade in the 'other' (huawei) and get the $1 + $1000. I believe it needs to be a phone traded in.

      • +2

        Has increased to $1000

    • SquareTradeUp email says
Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Extra $1000 Off if you want to edit the post.

  • +19

Interesting how the non-XL Pro doesn’t haven’t a release date yet. That’s the one I’d probably be looking at if I was in the market. Either that or the fold. I’m sticking with my Pixel 8 though.

    • +3

Yeah, that was the model I was looking at as well. Bugger.

  • +10

Bugger, I’m interested in the smaller 9 Pro & there’s no deals being offered. Possibly a stock/supply issue?

    • +6

Maybe once they finally announce a release date for it there will be some deals. Google just says “releasing Spring” for now.

      • +1

most probably coming in early October

  • +2

Cool, it's that time of year. Time for me to keep an eye on 8 Pro price drops and 7/6 Pro on clearance prices.

  • +26

Google, your pricing strategy will backfire. Get ready to discount heavily

    • Just seeing if there are any cheaper prices than the $899 receipt I have for the P8 128gb.
They haven't dropped in price really at all since, but you'd expect once the new ones are out they'd be under that.
$740 on Webuy is the cheaepst.

      • I paid $445 for P8 256gb from Telstra a year ago. It was supposed to be $829 ish

        • +1

          Doesn't sound right, link/pic?

Just checked the deals on here, the cheapest the Pixel 8 128GB got to was JB Hi-fi $698 after $300 trade in, so the real price on invoice was still $978. My invoice is $899 so still don't think I could claim a price drop (28d). They were also offering $300 not $375 for Pixel 7

          So I paid $899-375 = $524 which is less than $698.

So it seems the deals are always best at pre-release.

    • When have they ever gotten their pricing right?

      SSDD imo

  • +1

Wow been a year already? P8P still feels like it was bought yesterday.

Anywho you can add $1700 off Pixel 9 Pro XL with $99/plan to the bunch of pre-order offers - means 128GB will be $147, 256GB $297.

    Is ETF still $800?

    • Not quite. They normally launch in October, but he P9 release was bought forward randomly

      • Ah yeah that's true thought it was really quick 😂

      • Not exactly random, the October release was too close to the Xmas holidays leading the the pixels being on sale just 2 months after release. Bringing it forward means they can sell full price for longer.

  • +6

Waiting for Harvey for their free phone Optus deal…

    • +1

I would think they've learnt from last year. But hoping they haven't.

    • The ship has sailed for the Optus x HN deal

Now you are required to pay what Telstra used to have

cancellation fee will be half of your monthly charge x months remaining in your minimum term

      • Amen to that…

    • the sales rep i got when i did it was not impressed. surely they've cracked down on it

  • +11

These prices are pretty up there 😞

And watching some of the keynote now - new drinking game - drink everytime someone says 'AI'

    • +1

yeah, prices seem a bit crazy compared to what gets upgraded from one version to the next , screen battery , etc just a new SOC and maybe sensor and software so cost to manufacture hardware hasn’t increased.

      • it's a software game now

    • Getting $1000 trade-in for my Pixel 8 Pro, plus the 15% discount. Plus $246 store credit via my Google One sub. So definitely can't coimplain about the price.

Wasn't planning on upgrading my phone this year, but couldn't pass up at these perks.

      • +1

Is that the Unidays discount (15%)? I've got an old Pixel 6a lying around and would want to keep my Pixel 7 as back up.

That's a great deal for you though!

        • That's the one. I also have a Pixel 6 Pro gathering dust after a failed trade-in when buying a Galaxy Z Fold 4, due to some minor hair cracks on the back. The P6P was only 9 month old at the time, do I was annoyed.

  • +5

    Samsung + Tensor = nahh

    TSMC + Tensor = Yeah

    • +2

Even then, i'd be inclined to wait till gen2 of that arrangement

    • +1

Cringe…. I'm sure despite this there will be something else to complain about

    • Is Tensor G4 manufactured by TSMC?

      • +1

No Samsung, next years version will be TSMC

        • Geekbench results was about 4700 (from Dave2D) so somewhere between Snapdragon 8gen1+ and 8gen2. But not sure about efficiency.

  • Which case do you guys think will look the best now since the camera visor is changing? Bellroy? Peak Design?

    • +1

Have previously used the Aioria branded cases from Aliexpress (normally less than $10) which I’ve found stand up well & offer good protection.

    • +1

Got the standard silicon Google case myself. If you like the leather look go Bellroy. I just wanted a case on day 1.

    • Got my usual Spigen Rugged Armor case from ProGadgets ebay
~$31 with the lens protector (to use up a $5 off voucher, otherwise was 1c shy for case only ffs).
I don't really care about magsafe or wireless charging (or paying $60-90) but use a magnetic mount in the car so usually put a magnet plate in the case/back.

Haven't ordered the phone but started the trade process and received vouchers.
Seems like the 9 Pro and 9 are the same size now, and the XL replaces the old Pro size.

No sure if the 9 Pro is worth the extra $350 (for a bit better screen, ram, camera), maybe if the bonus trade in was more than $200.
$1699 is getting up there, not paying iPhone prices as the quality isn't really on par just yet, but the basic pixels are solid value (or were).

  • +3

This one , or Samsung flap 6 ?

    • +9

      When was the flap announced?

      • +5

        Nicknamed the flap because 💸?

        • Could be a new more controversial opening method?

  • +4

I guess S24U still better than Pixel 9 Pro XL. Currently on offer:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/861170

JB Hifi GC of $350 is still an out of pocket unless you really have a use for it and need to buy something from them.

    • Kind of but just use it for the next year's pixel purchase.

      • +1

Using mine for Pixel Watch 3.

    • +5

Never again would I get a Samsung, much prefer the clean google experience without all the Samsung BS over the top.

      • -1

What might be BS for you could be a preference for others. So depends on personal liking and disliking.

        • +3

          Exactly why OP specified:

Never again would I get a Samsung

          Not

No one should ever buy Samsung again.

  • -6

Is there any Pixel 9a available?

    • +2

      2025

      • I checked the trade-in value for P8a, it's just $250. :(

        • Damn that is rough, sold mine to a reseller for $470 just a couple weeks ago, after buying one during the launch deals from JB-HiFi.

Nice phone, but the modem in it is insufficient for my area, and the battery life was atrocious because of it.

Apparently the Pixel 9 still uses an Exynos modem, and although a newer modem than the Pixel 7 and 8 series, I can't see myself forking out ~$900 for a phone after trade-in bonuses that may still have reception and battery issues.

      • They're done with the A series.

      • 9 ProA

  • -4

Pixel 9 Pro XL or Samsung S25 Ultra

    • +2

25 Ultra is some time away

  • -1

Galaxy S24 Ultra is still the best & cheaper smartPhone, unless you want to go to the next level Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, but no S-pen
If you want foldable, then consider OnePlus Open vs Galaxy Z Fold 6

    • You should watch the Google Event on youtube, they tried to run Gemini AI on S24 in Live and failed 3 times

      • I use it all the time & few other genAIs on my S23 Ultra with AI. Maybe they tried on new version that hasn't been tuned for S24U (still not optimised). I would not trust the marketing tricks. Let's see the real-use scenarios.

    • +3

Galaxy S24 Ultra is still the best & cheaper smartPhone

      That's a statement and a half.

      • -6

I agree. You can get S23 Ultra for 1/2 price now with comparable AI features of the (US-controlled) Google.
PS. I "respect" the US sanctions & I sanction their products - if I find comparable non-US I will give priority (that's my Ethics - I'm anti-warmongering~sanctioning superior Huawei competition ;)
Once HarmonyOS (Next) is internationalized I will switch to non-US OS for less spying (they are not as experienced as C/i A ;)

        • +2

Huawei is a nobody and probably will continue to be. The fact you openly are happy with a switch to a Chinese phone because of spying is serious cringe.

          • +3

@Exec-Matrix: Huawei phones have always been excellent. The whole "which phone will get spied on" is farcical. No matter your brand, if you're a target for espionage, they'll get in.

  • +1

Jb only offering $300 trade in price for p8 128gb

    • +1

Bonus trade in on top though and maybe gift card on top too?

      • Yer but it's still lower than what I expected… I think my p7 trade in price was $400 last year and p7's rrp was significantly cheaper

        • +1

You must have had 256G, it was $375 trade for 128GB.

Yeah so it's $200 + $300. You have to trade to get the bonus $200.
Looking at Ebay I doubt you'd be able to sell for over $400-500, especially after the new ones are released.

          • @G-rig: I got $350 trade in for P8 256. Happy days. Stack with preorder gift card and $350 trade in coupon (off RRP) I'm happy. Easy to trade in rather than deal with eBay etc.

            • @slankets: Agreed, good work!
Did you go for 256gb again? I noticed it's $100 more but you usually get $50 extra trade in.
I've got the 128, storage is at 72% hmm. Could probably get rid of a few more things from photos but perhaps the 256 is worthwhile.

ps. agree, hard selling anything these days.

    • +1

Check the JB site, it's a $200 off (voucher)+ trade in value deduction ($300 pixel 8) + $250 gift card
Same as last time I think, which makes it a good deal (although RRP is worse every year).

So basically still costs $1347 - $750 = $597 to upgrade from my pixel 8, but claim on tax.
Not sure that's worth it and don't care about AI.

@Nand0sx I know the title can only accommodate so much, but the actual phone trade in is additional to the $200 voucher (for Pixel 9).

  • +6

I made the mistake of buying the Pixel 8 on launch last year and by the end of year it was discounted by a few hundred dollars I’m not doing that again I’ll wait for the price drop

    • It was a good deal.
True but much the same - it would have been 6-9 months later and you wouldn't have got the pre-order discounts/vouchers?

I don't think I could even price protection claim (28d) the pixel 8 as the price after trade was still less than the price paid (although technically I think I could/have claimed the difference in RRP).

      • Just looked at my receipt I bought the Pixel 8 128GB on 02/11/23 and paid $1197 from Officeworks and around the Black Friday Sales time it got discounted to under $1000 if I remember correctly I was not happy

        • oh right, had a look at my receipt too $899
I got it from last years JB Hi-fi pre-release deal, then deduct trade in value and gc.

These basic P9 128GB shouldn't really be over $1199 to be honest (better when the 7 was $999 or whatever).

    • Or if you did the Optus Harvey deal, that is good while it last…

    • but you had ~$400 (~500 with the 10% extra from Google One) in Google Store credit, so you have to take this into account.

    • +1

If you’re swapping phones every year, waiting for the biggest price drop is useless.

      • +1

Normally I don't replace my phones every year but I dropped my Pixel 8 and the screen flickers from normal to green so its unusable. Now to have the screen replaced I got quoted $540 so I did what any smart person would do and bought a iPhone 15 Pro and paid just over $2000. After using an iPhone for the past couple months I hafto say that I really really really hate this phone and cant wait to switch back to Android but I need to feel like I got a win so ill be waiting for a price drop.

        • Well sorry to hear about your pixel. what didn't you like about the iPhone 15 pro? is it the OS experience or the price to phone value or other hardware features?

I've been a long time iPhone user, and I would personally never recommend the pro series phones (or ipads/ macs) to anyone that can't get the intended use out of it and it's a waste of money.

          • @kaleidoscope: The iPhone Hardware is great I just don't like the OS experience. I feel like Android OS experience is far superior but iPhone hardware is much better

Also I don't like the face scan feature on iPhone would much prefer a finger print scanner

        • I preorderd S23 Ultra 512G for ~1650 with bonus extras & 2y Care+ with free fixes. In Jan <2y I will replace the battery for $99 & any other imperfections.
So far the original plastic screen protector is still very good (turned matte to compete with S24U matte coating ;) - mainly due to the excellent protection & functionality by the Samsung Smart View Cover for SmartPhones by Smart People ;)
The cover's window shows vital info while protecting from most accidents, turns off/on the screen & acts as stand when taking photos via the superior main cameras with S-pen remote BT controller :)

          • @taki: Yeah I should have got some sort of extra care plan or something but I wasn't expecting the screen replacement to cost so much. I could get a screen replacement kit from ifixit for around $220-$230 and attempt to fix it myself what could go wrong. But the new pixel is nearly here so I should just put that money towards the new phone at this point

  • +1

Will buy the 9 series if Gemini can run routines. Still don't understand if Gemini is so smart, why can't it run routines automation.

    • +1

Get a Samsung device, if you are after routines. I use Bixby for this.

      • +1

People shit on Bixby but the main reason it exists is because it has access to device settings like no other assistant can. Pretty sure Samsung knows no ones going to prefer Bixby over Google Assistant or Gemini or GPT for other tasks.

  • +2

Cool, just got the Google email today, funny they want a piece of the trade in action after a few years. Disappointing it's more store credit, not taken off the price. Need some kind of 'pay it forward' system (or swapping gift cards) so people can use the credit to buy the Pixel 9.

JB hi-fi usually has the best deals, will have to consider going from Pixel 8 to 9, annoying the new release price is always more. New tax invoice though and proper fingerprint scanner/security would be good. Trading is easier than selling these days.

    • +3

Tough pill to swallow to even upgrade from P7P, store credit deals from that purchase ended up being a pain. Purchasing earbuds or pixel tablet and selling on Facebook etc.
would much prefer it being taken off the price this time around

      • +1

Not really, the GC don't expire and you're bound to get something eventually (or use for the next year's purchase; i have to check how much credit I got)
Just buy your phone second hand too then.

        Ps fk facebook markeplace.
Hi is this still available button

        Yes are you still interested

Don't hear back from the twats.

        • Mine had a one year expiry from the store credits I got from P7P purchase,

          • @Phesto: was that JB Hifi?
Just checked my balance 'The Gift Card that never expires' still got over 100$ to put towards.

        • I think Phesto means google credit lasts 12 months, not JB credit. It also forces people to buy next phone which they can't do if the discount was instant with this purchase.
