I tried entering S824MATE for the plates and it wouldn't let me…😔

Too many digits mate. Discount code is only entered in final stage upon check out.

I've missed the offers everytime and I legit got plates like a week ago… fmd -_-

    • I share your pain. My new car isn't due to be delivered until end of Sept as well so again I'm probably going to miss out unless the dealer can somehow register it earlier.

      • +1

        @jace88
You can order now and reserve for 12 months

        • From my read of it you don’t get the discount though so this is only useful if I’m worried someone will beat me to register my combination.

    • +1

You should know they happen at every mothers/Father’s Day

      • I'm legit trying to get rid of mine, its too costly haha

Still sticking to the EV life @jace88?

        • Yep, but our second car is a family hauler hybrid so we can live the dream of a long roadtrip with the family. Don't take this as a knock against EVs though because our recent trip down to Canberra in the Tesla was very uneventful with superchargers available along the way and the hotel carpark having paid charging too.

    • Thank you for ensuring everyone else got a deal 😅

Yeah nah NSW custom plates prices have really gotten out of hand.
I used to have them 5+years ago but now not even bothered.

    • +2

I will only pay premium plate if they accept NIL, N/A or EMPTY

      • +4

        What about #REF

      • How about YEANAH

    • +3

used to reasonable back in the day. just a huge rort now, but it feels like every other car has a personalised plate these days… whos affording this stuff…

      • if you are on novated lease you can probably package that into your pre tax salary

        • That’s how I justify it for the basic custom plates but still thinking twice about any of the exotic $500 ones.

  • +6

Anyone know if Vplates does any specials for us folks in Victoria?

    • Never :(
They also recently boosted the price

  • is LOOKATME taken?

  • +1

    IN2PEE is taken. Bastards

    • IN2WEE is available

  • does not actually discount the annual fee component which is attached to your rego.

I have a custom plate that I'd love to have, that is within regular generation rules i.e. I could theoretically go and register a car today and be randomly assigned the exact plate that I want. If that happened, I would have it with no additional yearly cost.

However, if I want to pick that plate, they want to charge me $125 per year. If they charged me $500 once-off, I'd do it. But since they want a yearly fee, instead of getting $500 from me, they get $0 from me.

    • So clearly your options are:
      a) moving to a different state to buy the plate with the combo you want.
      b) continually deregistering and reregistering your vehicle in NSW until you randomly get assigned the combo you want.

      • b probably wouldn't work - the plates aren't issued sequentially. They are made sequentially but then boxed into packs of 20 and sent either to motor registries or car dealers. I work in automotive in SA and we've got plates in our locker that are significantly behind the current sequence because we use so few plates (long story)

Probably easier to win a decent amount of cash on lotto than to track it down.

Have seen some ingenious use of letters and numbers.

Not so ingenious are the ones paying a premium for a plate that emphasise the make or model of the car it is on.

    • +2

I always see them on Tesla's

      • Should have made it factory option?

    • +4

i once saw RUBIKS on a Nissan Cube which i thought was ingenious and emphasised the model of the car

Edit: I stand corrected, it was RU81KS which makes it even more ingenious saving $324 a year

    • I remember seeing a big black Jeep with the plates BAABAA. I thought it was kinda clever.

  • How much does it cost to reserve a plate without a vehicle?

  • I picked up an EV a few months ago, and I was very very lucky to randomly get assigned a rego plate that ends with 80LT. I am in the midst of getting a friend to 3D print a tiny lightning bolt to stick on my car :)

  • Where do I enter the code? I am trying to restyle my generic plate. Are these not included in this deal?

    • +1

should be at the payment details towards the end of checkout

      • It’s in section 4 from memory if the order page so after you’ve validated all your details it asks for promo code.

That being said it does say it’s personalised and custom plates so not sure if it will show up on generic plate orders.

        • +1

Not appearing for me somehow. It asks for card details and to validate the card. Once I do that, it just gives the options to pay or cancel. I am not pressing pay as it may order the plate without the discount.

I have tried that with the generic plate restyling and also have tried a custom plate combination. I can not find a place to put a promo code. 😤

          • @DeXie: Same issue here. Did you get it resolved?

            • @dpark88: I changed the delivery address to my home address instead of picking up from Service NSW. That worked for me.

  • Is there a way to order brand new plates? I have plates now but I want a new random number generated. How do I order this?

    • I believe you have to go to Service NSW to do this.

  • Can I buy plates for a car I still haven't registered to get the discount?

    • Yes, you will need to pay storage fees.
Depending on the time in storage the discount might be swallowed up in storage fees.

  • thank you, saved me $86
