  • Good price

  • Add in $250 a year or whatever zwift is worth these days

    • +3

I found zwift a bit expensive for a casual rider. Would like more pricing options. There is My Whoosh which is similar and free last time I checked

      • +1

Same, I'd ride maybe once or twice a week for some cross training- recovery.

      • MyWhoosh is a UAE company though. Yuck.

    • +1

Zwift is fun, but you don't need it. The Yahoo app let's you track HR, cadence and set a target watt rate, or resistance or incline. That works fine if you like to watch Youtube or whatever while riding instead.

    • +1

      Indievelo and mywhoosh are free

    • You can create workouts using Garmin for free

    • +1
      • Hmmm, do i hate my laptop enough to install this seemingly dodgy app. Probably. Cheers :)

    • +1

Not nearly the same as hooking up your quality road/gravel/whatever bike to it

      • -1

        grævël*

      • -2

No, it's not the same, it's easier and less hassle.

        • And generally no variable resistance, no ability to hook up to a screen, no ability to match your bike's geometry, no power measurement etc

          • @prhino: Are you talking about the trainer or the exercise bike?

    • +1

You sure can, and ride it outside. This isnt that

      • +1

Seriously who wants to go to the hassle of having to remove the wheels, hook it up, etc. every time you want to ride indoors then undo all of that when you want to take it outside, etc.

        • -4

          Grown men that's who.

        • Most people who use a smart trainer have multiple bikes. They'll hook up an old bike to the smart trainer

    • +2

Main advantage is that it allows you to run Zwift or many other fitness apps that are far better than any exercise bike.

Ive also been on quite a few exercise bikes though my time, and none feel as good as riding your own bike with your own dialled in fit.

I dont expect a casual person to buy the trainer, but for a serious cyclist it's a no brainer.

  • +1

Indeed good price. And these have solid resale value on second hand market

  • Thanks OP!

  • +5

    What exactly is this thing?

      • +12

If you don’t know what it is or what it’s for, you probably don’t need it.

          • +3

@caitsith01: I feel like there's enough in this to understand it's a bike trainer? And if you don't recognise it you're definitely not in the market for one, especially not at this price

          • +1

@caitsith01: will just tell you its not for lazy people, so move on

          • +1

@caitsith01: in less than 10 seconds I had all the info I needed from a copy paste google search.

This is an expensive product, surely if you are looking at this kind of money you would be expected to have a vague idea of whether it is in your own self interests to spend money on??!

        • @caitsith01 be thankful and open to do research and open to be educated.

      • +2

Do it the Ozbargain way: buy it first; ask questions later.

      • Could have just scrolled past it…

also worth looking at the jetblack history. $750 with the zwift hub
    https://jetblackcycling.com.au/indoor-cycle-trainers-and-acc…

    • +1

Jetblack is the most useless company ever, and i certainly didn't appreciate being abused by Murray for their hardware failure. In my dealings with them my opinion is you cannot trust them to last and anything involving software with them well they've literally got no clue what they're doing

      • +2

yep, I'd avoid Jetblack for any hardware and stick to the trusted brands.

      • I have a jet black fan and the remote has to be within about 50cm of the fan or it won’t work. Pointless

    • You mean victory?

      • yes. i meant the jetblack victory.

  • -1

Does it come with VR headset so I can get the full experience of cycling?

    • +2

It would get pretty gross with all the sweat

    • nope, but it does justify that stash of lycra you have hidden in your top drawer

      • +1

You cant kink shame me! and thats not the top drawer…

  • +1

    Just need a cassette, right?

    • +1

      yeah i believe so

    • That's right 👍

  • I just sold my Saris H3 which was excellent and is comparable to this. I got that a few years ago for $1000 and the prices have only gone up since then. Looks a great deal.

  • Got one myself, the more expensive versions come with a handle. I have to say this is heavy and awkward to move around. MyWhoosh had stability problems for me for a while. But the Wahoo Kickr Core trainer itself is a rock solid bit of kit.

  • Any recommendation for a budget bike that works with this? I plan to get one that only for indoor riding.

    • Zwift have a trainer bike for this. It's called the zwift ride

      • Thanks mate - looks like it's not so budgetwise lol. I am after a budget-wise bike to work with this.

        • Just get a 2nd hand aluminium bike

  • -3

I could buy like 5 bikes from kmart

  • I’ve price beat at 99 bikes for $645

Thanks OP for the heads up, and you can also stack with discounted Ultimate gift cards if you have any for another 10/15%

  • I looked into these a while ago and the big sticking point was that they only fit 9/10/11 speed cassettes. However from what I'm reading this one can take from 8-12 speed?

    https://www.norco.com/bike-archives/2017/valence-a-claris/

This is my bike and I have a spare cassette, would I be able to make it work?

    • It will fit anything from 7 to 12 speed. It comes with a spacer for 11/12 speed

  • At this price is this worth it over the Kickr Snap? I've been tossing up between them for a while.

    • Moved from snap to core. Definitely worth it

    • Kickr snap is nothing compared to the core/v6.

Core is actually great, I’ve had a core V5 and V6 and marginal difference between the core and higher models

  • OOS 😢

  • GT bike V?
