YMMV but these used to not meet ADR and therefore would not be automatically road legal as a retrofit/plug and play, when I was considering Philips LED headlights about 5ish years ago. Unsure if that's recently changed though.

Its still the same but the amount of people with the cheap dazzling ones in older vehicles suggests here in WA they dont really police it. The quality ones like this and Narva dont dazzle people as they have a sharp cut off and have been designed correctly.

Yep, get blinded on a regular basis with guys in lifted 80 series and older Patrols around my area that have just stuck in some ultra bright LED globes!

        • +4

I tried the $25 ones you see on ebay, put them in and was getting blinded just off the street signs and every second car flashing. I took them straight out and bought quality ones which are great.

    • Hey there, can you make any suggestions for road legal or closer-to-road legal LED retrofits for a car like a Golf Mk6? I'd seen these LED lights (H7) for Golf Mk6 but they're constantly out of stock.

      • +2

Generally speaking, in order to meet ADR, they would have to come factory fitted (ie: housing, projector and bulb all made for LED usage). But I'm really no expert..

        • Agreed. I looked at a heap of quality ones, and all said for off road use only.

          Hang-on darl… just gotta pull-over for 20min, change bulbs.

I went with stedi. Haven't fitted yet.

          • @Ulysses31: Yeah stedi, phillips & narva are the ones I would recommend. The light pattern is the right shape to give good light but not blind anyone.

      • Check your car manual for the type. You could also ask at SCA or Repco.

    • While talking about ADR, would this void car insurance if you got into an accident? My guess is this would be a reason to denied your claim based on illegal modification to your car whether it's related to the caused of the accident or not. Any legal expert here?

      • +2

It's not the denied claim you need to worry about - if you get into an accident, and the other party claims it happened because they were blinded by your dodgy headlights, then you're going to be in deep poo when it turns out you do in fact have dodgy headlights !

        • Make sense. Cheers

  • Is it legal to use these LEDs for high beam lights, as long as I switch to low beam for incoming traffic? (I always do)

    • +1

Pretty sure only legal to model cars that came out New with similar LED globes from factory if you care about

      rules like that.

  • Aren't these one better and cheaper

These sit pretty much on opposite ends of the product range. Pro9100 are "350% brighter than halogen" compared to "80%" (hope these figures are compared to the same base value). Also Pro9100 have 5000 hours life compared to 1500 hours ultinon access.

Ultinon access fitting looks more true to original halogen fitting though, its probably fits better if Pro9100 is too big.

Purchased a set of these and ended up being fakes.

Where did you buy them from?

Assuming the ones in this listing are these, they're sold by Amazon, not a third party.

      • Purchased from amazon. The light output was weak. I Compared with the guide to check for fakes on the philips website and YouTube.

        • +1

Well, at least refunds should be easy with Amazon. I wonder how Amazon would source fakes though.

  • Paid around $200 for the exact same model off eBay a year back.
Good cut off you can see so not to blind drivers while being brighter than stock headlights.
At this price, I'm tempted to buy a second set as spares but probably won't as LEDs usually lasts a long time.

  • Received and installed today. Seems totally genuine to me. Brightness seems very good. Instructions a bit vague - I put the supplied rubber rings, though unsure if required. Why aren't they already on it? Quite tight fit, had to push hard before I could twist them in.

    • I think you put the thicker orings on if you are replacing hb3 bulb. I think you leave it as is if you are replacing hb4. I may have got this the wrong way around, so check your instructions to be sure.

      • Without it, the thin band was very loose. I added the thick one. That may have been wrong - not sure if it matters, but might take it out later. Didn't seem to affect how hard it was to screw in, and without it it didn't look like it would seal. Using as HB3 high beam.

        • Im sure its correct the way it is right now with the larger o rings fitted.
