YouTube Premium Lite $8.99/Month after Free One Month Trial @ YouTube

97

Not sure when this happened, but it looks like YouTube Premium Lite is available in Australia. First month free then $8.99 per month.

  • Limited Ads in YouTube videos
  • Limited ads in YouTube Kids
  • Work across devices
  • no offline download
  • no background play
  • No YouTube Music Premium

Maybe not a deal, but is way cheaper than the full Premium.
Time I gave Google some money for all the videos I've watched without ads due to ublock origin.

    Limited Ads in YouTube videos
    - Limited ads in YouTube Kids

    - no offline download
    - no background play

    Worst plan in history IMHO

    • +16

Could of just let background play in and I’d probably sub

      • +16

        Right.

It has to have either background play or no ads at all.

I don’t know who would be subbing to this.

      • +1

        Agree

    • +6

That's a whole lot of nothing.

  • +88

Still has ads, no background play, no downloads what am i paying for LOL

Paying 9 bucks to get a slap in the face each month

      • +3

It's a slap from silicone valley , plz pay respect

        • +7

Your $9 ensures a silicon valley executive has a live in Puerto Rican nanny for an additional 2 hours. Please give generously

Full Premium family subscription via India should work around $4/mo

    • +4

Should, but doesn't. Google have cracked down recently on using a VPN to purchase a YT subscription from another country.

      • +11

My pakistan family sub is still working, and thank god for that. $32 a month for a family premium membership is crazy!

          • +2

@magic8ballgag: Compared to the value I get out of, say a Kayo subscription, which is the same price but much more premium content, and that I can also share between my friends, it isn't even close. Youtube I use for maybe an hour a week; worth a couple bucks for no ads but that price bump last year was ridiculous.

            • +1

@get-innocuous: Each to their own, if I had to pick between this and Netflix, YouTube wins everytime as I can easily get the Netflix content elsewhere.

Currently paying for/sharing a friends premium in Phillipines (via their card/deets).
Let's see if they catch on considering it's actively being used there too and the card is legit.

        • Yeah, my Argentina sub just got cancelled because they caught on.

        • +1

Still rocking my Nigerian family plan for $1.62 per month.

        • +2

My Pakistan just got taken away. They were very polite about it, but it felt like my mum saying "You've had enough screen time today."

        • +1

those days are numbered my friend. My pakistan account got cancelled last week :(

      • Should and does via Apple method. No VPN required

  • +1

I am only paying $2.50 for a full YouTube premium, this is a rip off

    • Same

      Turkey?

        Türkiye! (I'm a chicken btw)

Firefox with ublock origin, Revanced and smart tube are $0 per month

    • Sign me up.

    • +5

Revanced may seem like a bit of a pain for some people to set up the first time but it's well worth persisting! Can't live without background play now

    • I take it there's nothing for google nest and nest hub? Since that's linked to the Google account, and I don't have premium anymore, it's full of ads and can't even do "play xx song by xx". Casting from my phone (android, revanced) doesn't work anymore either, though that might be a different issue unrelated to Premium

    • This is the way

    • add brave or vivaldi browsers on any device

  • +5

Thanks OP for post - this is laughable YouTube think people would pay for this

    • +1

      You’d be surprised.

      • Oh yeah a lot of silly(being polite) out there

  • +2

    Brave and AdGuard $0/month

    • +1

I guess that doesn't happen if you're watching YouTube through a media player on TV. Such as Google TV, NVIDIA Shield, Apple TV etc. Only a YouTube Premium membership will get rid of the ads on that.

      • +6

For Google TV, there's SmartTube. No ads, and it also skips baked-in sponsors too (such as Nord VPN).

        • Well i see. How long will that work until Google cracks down on it as on bans the app from the Google Play store. It's technically in breach of the YouTube use terms i think.

          • +1

@hollykryten: It's been working for years. It updates every other day. Genuinely no reason to not use it. I use it on my Nvidia Shield TV and my old mibox.

          • +1

@hollykryten: You have to sideload SmartTube. The app has built-in update.

          • @hollykryten: It's not on the official Google Play store. It needs to be installed unofficially (known as sideloading).

As others said, it'll regularly update itself to keep up with Google's ever-changing code.

        • is it safe punching your login details into a 3rd party app like SmartTube?

      • Change your DNS to an ad filtering/blocking one, most TVs allow this

        • What dns would that be?

          • @Trishool: AdGuard is 176.103.130.130 or 176.103.130.131, but there’s others that work too

            • +1

              @linkindan: Appreciated, thank you!

              • @Trishool: No worries, if they don’t work try others as some sites (such as YouYube) can shutdown if they detect the DNS in place

Time I gave Google some money for all the videos I've watched without ads due to ublock origin.

Time you handed in your OzB membership

  • +10

    Rip off.

Time I gave Google some money for all the videos I've watched without ads

    😒

By starting to pay them now … to be exposed to ads? This has got to be a joke post.

  • +1

    Safari + ublock.

If you’re on iOS, delete the app immediately.

    • +1

I'll be deleting the app once my YouTube Premium Pakistani membership runs out at the end of the month.

  • +2

Not a bargain compared to the Youtube premium family from India that has been running successfully for years. ~$4/month

  • +8

You pay but you still see ads.

    What's next? 4.99 for 15s ads only?

    • +8

Delete that before they see it

      • +1

        They cached it already

        • +1

          ROBOTS.TXT

  • +3

VPN set to Albania and you'll get no Ads at all

  • After being kicked off from Turkey, I am now on board with this plan.
I guess I’m in the niche market they are targeting: people who just need no ads in normal videos across multiple devices (especially TV).

    • +5

      But there are ads?

      • +2

With Premium Lite, ads may appear on licensed music content, Shorts and when you search or browse.

Without showing the explanation of “limited ads”, this post is misleading.

  • +2

Hm, I don't see any "lite" plans on that page? Just regular premium?
Google says lite plans were axed in 2023

  • Got an email from YT recently saying hey payment didn’t go through? Checked statements and it’s there .

Wondering if they know I don’t live in buenos Aeries

  • +1

Very vague on the 'limited ads' and their link to clikc through doesn't work to explain it!

What a crock. They nabbed me for not 'being in the Philippines' last week, so I'm looking for alternatives.

  • This is very confusing. I was on the Premium Lite Plan and initially it seemed OK, but I was still getting ads both before and during videos. I cancelled it because the only thing I wanted was ad free YouTube while using the TV. It seemed like they were charging for me a tier/service they'd scrapped in other regions.

    • +1

Buying Premium doesn't remove the baked in sponsor ads recorded in the videos by the content creatos. It only removes the corporate ads the same sort of ads which you see on free to air TV. Well I"m talking about the full Premium. The Premium lite might still have some limited corporate company ads. It does say limited ads with Premium Lite. The full Premium has no corporate ads at all.

  • +2

Just get the full fat one, ive had it for years, never regretted it

    • Yeah i've got the full Premium too. No having to muck around with third party apps or changing DNS. I see no ads other than the baked in sponsor ads from the video creators. And i use the YouTube Music a lot too. So it makes it worth it.

  • +6

The full premium plan used to be $10 not too long ago. Pure greed.

    • -2

The results of COVID and inflation. Everything has gone up. It wasn't only that. Mobile phone, internet all went up in price recently too

      • +9

The results of corporate price gouging using COVID as an excuse. There is zero justification for these price increases beyond "we want more money".

  • +7

Long time YouTube premium user - this deal is disgusting.

So I pay $9 a month to 'limit' the amount of ads?

It's a cash grab, it makes me want to 'hop over' to another country to buy real premium at far less. In fact I think I will.

    • Yeah it looks like just to limit the amount of corporate ads. They charge $16.99 for the full Premium to get rid of all corporate ads.

    • +2

I've had this plan for ~3 months and never seen a YouTube ad. But I also don't watch Music or Kids vids.

I'm not interested in YT music, so no point in paying for the full premium.

      • -1

Well, if there really are no ads, it should be clearer, if there are still ads at all, it's garbage.

Besides removing the other features is just awful, completely unnecessary other than to make you spend more for them.

    • +1

If you're going the VPN route, they're cracking down on that. Mine through India got terminated today after a month's notice.

  • +2

    Very poor value

  • Maybe not a deal, but is way cheaper than the full Premium.

    😂

    • But you do get access to YouTube Music with the full Premium. It's the full catalog of music unlimited playback.

  • If they ever knock me off my Pakistani one and there's no alternative, that's that. Won't bother with Premium. I barely use it as is. Mostly just for streams. The alternatives get a lil mucky with livestreams.

Certainly not getting this. This is an overpriced punch to the face.

  • +4

Serves these greedy scumbags right for losing money from Android apps like SmartTube and ReVanced. I have and will let every Android user I know about piracy.

  • After all these comments and I'm still not sure what we're paying for. I'm sure it's great and all but what is it?

*With Premium Lite, ads may appear on licensed music content, Shorts and when you search or browse.

  • +2

This is why monopolies sk*, these companies are straight up spitting on us now.

Also, Disney announced that they’ll be increasing their subscription prices. Again

  • -1

    Paying money to watch ads…

  • -1

Umm, so its normal Free Youtube with just a few less adverts and its still $8.99. Seems super expensive then.

  • 9$ for less ads no youtube music, no background play, i thought discord nitro classic was a rip off this is a whole new level.

  • +1

It does say ads may appears on music, shorts and when you search. 'most' normal videos are ad free. I am tempted to give it a try as I don't use it for music or shorts and it's so painful after using ad free for years. Can't see a way of getting a month free though

  • $2.79/month from a few years back. Would sweat every time a new card needs to be updated though.

  • +2

I've been on this plan for about 4 months, and all I can say is the "Limited ads" almost never pop up on normal videos
Ads pop up like normal when watching / listening to music
Having seen what free YouTube is like these days, I'd rather pay the $9

    • With Premium Lite, ads may appear on licensed music content, Shorts, and when you search or browse. Learn more about ads on Premium Lite

I didn't make a typo. The link they tell you to click to learn more about ads on Premium Lite is a page that does not exist.

This page doesn't exist in YouTube Help. It may be deleted because the feature doesn't exist anymore, or the URL may be incorrect.

  • If you on android tv tablet or phone you know what to do.

If you on ios, search “video lite “ and you’re welcome

  • 9 bucks a month for just "limited" ads?

Not even any other basic features bundled in…

  • Youtube music is what makes Premium worth signing upto saves on a spotify membership

  • Standard strategy. Bring in a cheaper plan so you can bump the price up on the normal plan and if anyone complains suggest they take the povo plan.

  • I thought YouTube lite was discontinued last year. Or have they brought a new version Youtube even liter

  • It doesn't seem to be available to me from that link, only full fat, family, or student. Anyone else experience this?
