I was looking for an SDS saucepan, I think I will just take this impact saucepan as an alternative.

    • What's SDS Saucepan?

      • Sds is a type of hammer drill

        As is an impact driver

I have these and they are great. Just need to be a bit careful with cooking cheese based sauces to stir them so they don't burn but otherwise they'll take whatever you throw at them

      • Same, bought one, liked so bought a whole set.

Amazon better deals than Myer or DJs.

the flapping about non-stick is completely over-done. The conditions for it to cause you any harm are incredibly unlikely to happen. Might as well join the aspartame-phobes

      • Is that why it's ended up in 97% of the US population's bloodstream?

        • +1

As that article shows, there's many different sources of it.

I'm sure people can go study and read up on it, and how much you'd need to eat/inhale/inject for it to be an issue. But the way some people are carrying-on you'd think that being near a nonstick pan would give you head cancer or something. Wait til they find out there's arsenic in the human body.

@hotphil: You're right, non-stick pans likely aren't the main avenue of exposure. The main problem with them is overheating leading to off-gassing

You say that people can go study up and read on it, but there is a lack of research on the new chemicals that have been produced to make non-stick coatings and their potential health impacts

The main contributor is likely the food products that we eat that use these coatings such as popcorn bags, fast food wrappers, microwave rice pouches and possibly the water we drink which may be contaminated (if it's as bad as the US). The other major contributor if I had to guess is probably meat from predators high up in the food chain (such as tuna or shark meat) and plants that absorb the nutrients from the ground

I just don't want us to get complacent with these chemicals or build an over reliance on non-stick pans that are designed to be landfill within 5 years, where they will inevitably end up pervading the environment and ending up in our bodies

Appreciate you not taking offense or being aggressive in your past message

I have a bigger issue with how the production of non-stick pollutes the environment. Maybe that doesn't directly impact on me, but it will on the locals of the factory and eventually it will make it's way into the water we drink and what not. They are called forever chemicals for a reason.

I made the switch after watching Dark Waters and have never looked back.

  • Got one in Melbourne - Thanks. Needed an upgrade even though my KMART beast is still going strong. Wonder if the steamer will fit into this….fingers crossed.

  • Thanks op just ordered one. Move into a new apartment. The things I need!

  • Is 18cm a decent size?

    • Yes

    • Average is about 15cm, so I guess it is.

  • what does aluminium core mean? are the external parts all steel?

    • Pretty much from my understanding. Aluminium is a very good conductor

    • Steel takes too long to heat up, so it's a common practice to sandwich less dense material in between layers of steel. Aluminium is cheap so it is a popular choice, premium cookware tends to use copper, but the price they charge is out of proportion.

I've had a set of these for 12 years and still going strong! Highly recommend!

    • Yeah I’ve had one for probably 4-5 years now and it looks brand new. Use it for gravy, sauces, hot chocolate, other things needing a small pot. It’s good to pour from as well as it has a (sharp) lip.

  • Anyone have a steamer that they can link which fits with this?

  • Do they have nikel in them?

  • Back in stock

  • I have this one from 10 years ago. I’ve got the whole set and these last for ever

  • OOS

  • Perferct size for my Shin Ramyun!!!!
