900

As reported on Yahoo Finance:

While the standard cash back on these new Cashrewards “fuel & auto” gift cards is 2 per cent, this Sunday 11 August they’re offering $5 bonus cash back on purchases above $50* from this new range.

The article says it's on this Sunday. Here's the CR link to the gift card.

Bonus is limited to one per Cashrewards account and is over and above the advertised store cashback rates which still apply to the transaction. Additional transactions do not qualify for additional bonuses.

  • Any idea how long it takes the $5 bonus to track?

Tracking email just mentioned the usual cashback

    • +1

Did you activate the bonus? It's added to your account balance prior to purchase.

      • Yep and both cb and bonus are approved already going by my account.

        • both mine also approved

        • My $5 activation bonus noted 'Estimated approval: 09/11/2024 (~90 days)' ?

          • +1

            @ab c: That is a placeholder date.

I bought a Fuel & Auto gift card earlier today, and both the standard cashback and the $5 bonus cashback were approved a few hours later.

            • @WookieMonster: My last Uber GC bonus cash back is still pending, it says "estimated approval 6 August"…wondering what happened.

      • I see it now thank you!!!

  • Hmm activated, bought, got confirmation of normal cashback but no confirmation of promo anywhere?

  • is there a link to all the retailers you can use on?

    • +2

No, such a list does not exist (and it would be practically impossible to compile such a list).

The only guidance we have on where these gift cards can be redeemed are the whitelisted MCCs listed on the Cashrewards website:

Gift Card Where can you redeem it?
Fuel & Auto Merchants categorised as Service Stations (5541), Motorcycle Shops and Dealers (5571), Motor Vehicle Supplies and New Parts (5013), Automotive Tire Stores (5532), Automotive Parts and Accessories Stores (5533), Automotive Body Repair Shops (7531) or Automotive Service Shops (7538). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance.
Liquor Merchants categorised as Package Stores, Beer, Wine, and Liquor (5921). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance.
Pet & Vet Merchants categorised as Veterinary Services (0742), Pet Shop, Pet Foods, Supplies Stores (5995) or Pet Insurance (single purchase, not available for installment/recurring payments) (6300). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance.
Tradies & DIY Merchants categorised as Hardware Stores (5251), Hardware, Equipment and Supplies (5198), Glass, Paint, and Wallpaper Stores (5231), Paint, Varnishes and Supplies (5198) or Home Supply Warehouse Stores (5200). Gift card subject to individual merchant acceptance.

There are two main reasons it is practically impossible to compile a list of merchants who would accept these four gift cards:

      1. The MCC is set by the merchant's payment provider, and can change at any time without notice. To compile a real-time list of merchants using specific MCCs, someone would need to ping every single EFTPOS payment terminal and every single online payment gateway in Australia, and that would be a lot of effort. Blackhawk Network (the gift card scheme owner) or Visa (the payment network supporting this gift card) can obviously see the MCC for transactions passing through them, but that relies on transactions happening through Blackhawk Network's gift cards (or Visa's network), and I doubt either party would want to be the source of truth for something they do not control.

      2. Even if a merchant uses a whitelisted MCC, there is no guarantee the merchant will actually accept it as a payment method. For example, if you go to a service station and attempt to use this to purchase a gift card, it is within the right of the service station to reject your payment method. Additionally, if a merchant forces Visa cards being used on their website to support 3-D Secure1, the gift cards in this deal will be rejected, as prepaid Visa gift cards cannot support 3-D Secure.

Having said that, a few OzBargainers (including myself) have been tracking MCCs reported at various merchants. This list should only be used as a rough guide, because the MCC can change at any time without notice (especially since some of the entries on this list are approaching three years old), plus a merchant may use different MCCs for different types of purchases.

      1. 3-D Secure allows the merchant to get the card issuer to verify the cardholder is the person initiating the transaction by asking for a one-time password.

  • Is there anyway to use any of these Pet, tradies, fuel & liquor card for Woolies/coles? I already have 2 x $50 7/11 gift cards sitting yet to be used

    • +1

Yes buy coles card from coles express

      • +1

Thanks. So at coles express i can buy coles card worth $50 and pay using google wallet.

        • Yes

      • Do coles express sell coles supermaket gc ?

        • +1

When I was in a Shell Coles Express earlier this week, it sold Coles Group & Myer gift cards (and a few other random gift cards, including Shell, Amazon, Coles Mastercard and Apple).

Added manually to Google Wallet ok.

    Balance/transactions check here

(just realised there is a redeem button on the cashrewards page, hadn't clicked it so I guess it doesn't do much. Just used the card details at the bottom)

that Activ balance website is quite restricted, only checked one card then blocked my IP.

      • I switch to mobile hotspot to check another card…I think you can check more card balances using this as I think ISP based IPs are blocked

        • Correct.

    • Can't seem to add the fuel one to my Google Wallet. I clicked redeem first and registered it.

      • Do we even need to register to use the card? As far as I can tell it's active in my wallet, and cardbalance site shows the value loaded.

Guess I'll find out. One less place to submit my name email and phone number the better..

I just manually added the number, PIN was 3 digits so assumed was the CCV, and expiry of 08/27.

The order email has a link to https://my.ewallet.com.au with these details too.

        • +1

No I don't think you do.

I've added it now. I didn't read the first time why it wasn't eligible. It's cos I had too many cards added to my wallet already! So if anyone wants to know, the limit is 20 lol.

  • How long does it usually take to activate on apple pay after purchase?

  • offering $5 bonus cash back on purchases above $50* from this new range.

Thanks OP. Got a fuel card and added to Samsung Wallet.

  • I can't add this Visa GC to Apple Wallet using my 15PM. The error message is: "Invalid Card. Check the information on your card and try again."

No clear explanation from Apple Support. They claimed they have received similar reported issues.

    • I got the same error message when trying to add to my apple wallet straight after buying.
Waited 5mins, and tried again and it added no worries

      • No luck for me. Failed each time :(

        • use a different phone, thats what i did unfortunately

          • @ZeroRefrain: I have the same issue but using a different phone didn’t work. I wonder if it’s because they are linked to the same Apple ID.

            • @fedex11:

    • How many active payment cards have u got in ur apple wallet?

      • 12 - way below the limits.

        • Unsure what the limit is for the newer iPhone models, but mine (12 mini) is 12 cards max. Had to delete one to make space for another

    • I had this situation already long time ago, nothing to do as those support just kicked ball.

I've been using Android phone since then.

      • It didn't just start for me. This happened 2-3 months ago. All of a sudden, somehow, I couldn't add any GC from Blackhawk to 15PM. I could only add GCs on my old iPhone 7. super weird.

I wonder whether you have run afoul of the fraud checks that Apple does when you attempt to add a new payment card to Apple Pay on your device. Apple apparently shares the fraud check information with both Blackhawk Network and Visa, so I am not 100% sure which party decides to stop you from adding a payment card to Apple Pay. You can read more about this on Apple Pay’s privacy policy..

Another user previously got more information on this topic from Blackhawk Network support staff.

          • @WookieMonster: I noticed that Apple Pay's privacy policy states fraud checking, but I wasn't sure why fraud checking would be triggered, and I asked Apple's senior support about it. She said that Apple wouldn't prevent me from adding a bank card to my wallet, and it sounded like she wasn't aware of Apple Pay's privacy policy, even though I specifically mentioned "fraud protection."

RE: Another user previously got more information on this topic from Blackhawk Network support staff.

I was told by Blackhawk Network Support the exact wording to use the same script:

We can confirm that we have observed success when our cards are added to the wallet. The wallet provider assigns a score to each individual device based on factors such as the age of your account, the number of cards added, and whether or not you are using a VPN. All of these factors are taken into consideration by your provider when allowing cards to be added to the wallet. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to modify this score.

            • @rrrrrrein: don't waste too much time which caused angry to hear those "official excuse".

if another phone working just bring to use up those "silly" cards asap.

    • Same here from last 2 months, noone can fix neither Apple nor card issuer….worst is quite often I can’t add my bank card as well.

      • Apple Wallet behaves strangely, even when adding a bank card. I recently had to call the bank for verification before using the card with Apple Pay, which didn't happen in the past. Used to have SMS options.

  • Does this work on metro petroleum station?

I used my $50 Cashrewards 'Tradie & DIY eGift Card' to purchase a Bunnings $50 eGift Card Online

I didn't bother adding it to my mobile wallet or anything prior, just copy pasted the card details from the email link, at the Bunnings payment screen.

You can only use Bunnings Gift Cards in store, but for balances below $9.95 they give you change in cash and easier than splitting payments.

    • Do you know of any gift cards that can be bought this way online using the CR fuel gift card?

      • I'd imagine you could go into an Ampol or EG fuel etc. and purchase whatever gift cards they sell in store, unless they have blocked the use of these cards. I usually buy Amazon gift cards from Ampol with my AmEx/28 Degrees etc. card offers. Ring your local and see if they have what you are after.

EG fuel might sell Everyday Wish gift cards and Shell should sell Coles Group Gift Cards which can be used at a range of retailers including Woolworths and Coles.

        • Cheers, I was hoping for a way to use it without adding it to a wallet

          • +1

@ozilicious: Ah purchase a gift card online, using the CR fuel gift card. Yeah I can't think of any servos with an online website selling gift cards.

  • How can you check the balance on these fuel gift cards please?

      • +1

Doesn't work- just tried for both fuel card and grocery card, both returned a "check with provider" error message

        • The same solution here. Try to check another card and you know the difference.
