Yup I fail to see the Aussiebb advantage.

Aussie broadband had an advantage 3-4 years ago when the CVC issue was shit. Now its pretty much even playing field across all providers (except for mate and spintel who only have 1 pop in Sydney)

      • I've had several 'advantages' with them - no idea if other providers do the same, or how valuable these are the the majority of people:

        • They will give you a public IP for free if you ask for it, which is almost as good as a static IP (that costs $5 a month)
        • Their app allows you to do tests and kick your connection by yourself
        • Transparency and good support

All of that is probably only worth $10 a month though, not really enough of an advantage to justify their pricing, but it's something at least.

        • +1

Leaptel you can get off cgnat and you can do it within the portal. ABB you need to call still.
          Can kick connection as well.

The thing I don't like about Leaptel seems to be that they cap usenet somehow. Someone joined Leaptel from ABB the other day and posted @ WP asking why when he got 100MB/s+ at ABB is he only getting 60MB/s at Leaptel. That has been my experience also.

Is 60MB/s decent? Sure. Do I want 100? Yes.

    • Although on 1000/ down Leaptel Usenet speeds seem to only deliver about 60MB/s - on ABB it's 100+
We need those Linux ISOs STAT

      • Optus is also 110MBps down, Leaptel and Superloop are average for international connectivity

    • leaptel $89
      superloop $85

      With the promo price
      leaptel after promo $119
      superloop $99 after promo

      aussiebroadband $119

      Without promo price

        With the promo price
        leaptel after promo $119

That's 12 months away by which time all the plans will definitely have changed…

It is $89 for the next 12 months.

How much is ABB for the next 12 months ????

        • Just want to point out you compared promo price with non promo price.

          • @superforever:

            NBN 250/25

aussiebroadband $119 $109 for first month, then $119 ongoing
            leaptel $89 first 12 months
            superloop $85 first 6 months

            OK ?

            • @jv: aussiebroadband $109 for 12 months, then $119 ongoing
leaptel $89 first 12 months, then $119 ongoing.
superloop $85 first 6 months, then $99 ongoing.

title was changed, after I posted.

So Leaptel is the best deal over 12 months.

                • @jv:

title was changed, after I posted.

                  I see

        • Get my crystal ball out and advise

    • Have they jacked their pricing in order to make their offshoot, Buddy Telco, look more competitive? Cos that's what it looks like to me. They used to be consistenly one of the best option, for Opticomm connections anyway.

    • Plus ONLY half the bandwith as ABB is allocating the other half to their new dog called Buddy.
      ABB stock is in freefall….

  • So, to bring the pricing more into line with other providers?

    • No, just a 'token' gesture…

It's crazy how ABB went from THE isp to have and have now just become overpriced and not worth it.

    • +4

My 2c: I agree with the sentiments you shared. I was with ABB for years and then they became too expensive. I moved from ABB to Superloop and now with More especially because More for me is cheaper than Superloop as well, not by much though.

At the same time, it's worth mentioning that I have spoken with the support staff from all 3 ISPs and ABB were the best. ABB's wait times were the shortest when I was last with them. Superloop was able to resolve my issue when I contacted them but it required some to and fro. More's support is outsourced and therefore not local. Though their wait times isn't that bad, I struggle with their support staff.

In short, ABB is keeping their staff local and it costs them more money as compared to someone who has outsourced their customer service. If you are in a stiuation where you don't need to engage customer service much, it wouldn't matter much.

    • i used to be with aussie. I still hear their service is great as are their speeds. I don't know I'm with spintel now. These cheaper places are great as long as you not have any issues

When will NBN upgrade everybody from 100 to 250 free? After they talked about it last year.

    • They said later this year…

      Might not be 'free' though…

      • On March they said, no extra wholesale cost so assume no extra cost to us.

"NBN Co today launched a proposal to provide five times faster download speeds on its popular nbn Home Fast product, which would see wholesale download speeds accelerate from 100/20 Mbps to 500/50 Mbps at no extra wholesale cost to retailers."

        https://www.nbnco.com.au/corporate-information/media-centre/…

        • On March they said, no extra wholesale cost so assume no extra cost to us.

That's what they 'said' back then….

Also, that doesn't mean the retailers won't change their prices at the time…

  • Do any of these cheaper providers have BPay? I prefer this over direct debit because I can just pay my half and my flat mate pays his.

    • Could just alternate your monthly payments.

  • Didn't work for me on an existing account.

Checking AGL internet again its gone up to $89/month from $69 as an existing AGL customer. Seems the offer expired end of July

  • Their prices are skyrocket…. now they have to do this, no options… lot of competitors with same or more greater customer service. Due to inflation, even small amount also now comparable by customers, so their client based is dropping faster. Still I don't think $10 enough to hold that drop.

    • Their prices are skyrocket…

      When and how much?

I just signed up to Tangerine and got a $30 off using OBSN30 code for the first month

    • I just signed up to Tangerine

Oh no… Will they let you cancel?

      • I'm reaching the end of my 12 month promo from leaptel and need to move, any reason not to consider tangerine?

        • Just go with whoever is cheapest.

        • after i signed up they also arranged a NBN technician to install FTTP on the 4 days before the start of the plan. I’ve used Tangerine before, and hadn’t has much issues with them. They are cheapest i could find for the next 6 months

  • Can anyone help me as an existing customer where to redeem a code to see if it works?

I can’t find an option on either the app or webpage.

    • +1

I think under change plan page.

They are solid and local, but not price competitive.

    • Lapel has bpay

0 reason to go with aussie broadband, almost all providers are even playing field in terms of performance except for a few edge use cases

    How is this a bargain?

    • +1

A bargain for the ABB loyalists.

      • +1

didn't think loyalists could get this deal cos they'd already be with ABB?
