This is cheaper than an Amazon Firestick 4K Max. That should be enough said.

    • +1

does it take more power tho.

    • +26

If you're paying more than $116 for Fire stick 4k max, you need to hand in your ozbargain license bro

      • Yeah $60 tops

      • Current price.. was trying to make point about the value vs a Firestick, but no I have never paid more than $59 for a Firestick.

        • +3

Sure but if you're never paying $119 for the fire stick then $119 is not the number you want to be comparing against.

$116 vs $59 is a really different proposition, you could have two fire sticks.

That being said, these machines are pretty useful in certain use cases. I recently got an optiplex 7050 micro with a i5 7500T for $130~ running as a 24/7 jellyfin/plex server. I'm sure I could get it to run HA as well but haven't bothered yet.

It's very quiet, 35w CPU that probably uses 7W on idle or something like that.

These go for about $119 on eBay, if you have eBay plus you can use the $5 off

          • @KnifeEnthusiastBoi: Fair point. I have a Lenovo Tiny with a 4570T and have been running a Plex server on it for 2 years now. I only keep 1080p video. It’s great except sometimes after like 3 weeks of sitting there on but idle the pc just freezes and I have to do a restart. Dunnno why, but it was a very cheap Plex set up. Might look at upgrading to a new processor like the 7500T.

            • @EitherWayUp: That sucks. I have M700 with a 6th-generation CPU and it is rock solid. Most clients can decode themselves, so I don't rely on the server transcoding.

Doesn't the 7500T have a different socket to the 4570T?

              • @ihfree: Yeah I meant a full upgrade to a new PC with that sort of chip or greater

          • @KnifeEnthusiastBoi: Although that eBay price is for half the RAM and storage. $194.99 for the same specs.

    • but bigger

    • Different use case, this makes a solid Plex server with sonarr and radarr. Fire stick won't do that and your storage expansion

    • Problem is, I buy an amazon firestick to stream media. What am I supposed to do with a computer? Not everyone on this site is a linux plex media server nerd and willing to spend blood sweat and tears to get some half arsed solution that is unreliable at best.

      • It’s literally a very simple process that you absolutely don’t need Linux for that works very reliably.

    • is there a way to set this up with an android like smart tv setup? with play store and all? would be good to know if i can use it instead of a smart tv box, would be a bonus if it can be setup so it doesn't have all those ads like the chromecasts & nvidia shields

  • +1

    OP, is this correct dimension? 179mm X 182.9mm X 34.5mm. Thanks.

    • It is H7.04" x L7.2" x D1.35".

      • +2

        Damn seppos

        • It's literally in the photo on the link. I don't speak that way but I deliberately didn't want to make a conversion error given that was the info as I read it.

  • hi does the OptiPlex 7070 comes with powersupply?
also is it possible to have the storage removed and make it a bit cheaper since i already have many nvmes just want to save money now

    • -6

This model is not an optiplex 7070. 🤔

      • +1

they're probably referring to the optiplex 7070 in the comments.

      • But in the Deal post is "Also have the below for sale
Dell Optiplex 7070 Mini PC - 9th Gen"

        • I can read, I promise 🤦‍♂️

    • I see 256 nvme on FB marketplace for $25, I don't imagine it would reduce the price by much…

    • +1

The Optiplex 7070 does come with dell PS

  • +1

yep , that dimension is correct for the M710Q

  • +2

    Displayports, no wifi

    • +4

Yeah, Intel was arrogant and refused to support HDMI 4K/60Hz in integrated graphics until 11th gen. Most PC makers wanting to quote 4K/60Hz support generally need to use DisplayPort. A bridging chip is an option, but not common (other than Intel NUCs). The DisplayPorts on this are not DisplayPort++ so if you want HDMI, you must use an active DisplayPort to HDMI converter, passive ones won't work at all.

      • Thank you now I know why one wouldn’t work when I connected it to my 4K TV (DisplayPort to HDMI adapter).

Maybe I can force 1080 output somehow? I’ll do some research.

        • +1

You need to get an active DisplayPort to HDMI converter. Below is one where some OZBers like.

          https://www.amazon.com.au/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Adapter-…

I do have one (so it can be a biased suggestion). It is over-spec'd since it supports 8K. Passive ones do have their uses (e.g. for quite a lot nVidia cards, they do support DisplayPort++ so the port itself can do HDMI conversion, so for that, a passive one (I found) is actually better).

If you prefer a cheaper one, you need to make sure it is an active one. A lot of cheap ones are passive (for passive ones, the GPU must do the conversion; however, it is not applicable of doing that because if the Intel GPU is capable of doing so, Dell would have included at least 1 HDMI port).

          • @netsurfer: Thank you! I’ll grab one :)

            • +1

@Agileduck: Theres sellers on eBay selling Dell branded ones, seems like surplus stock that probably come with machines and go unused. I bought one for $6 and it works perfectly, getting 4k60 from a 6th gen NUC. I do believe getting sound from the display port can be hit and miss though.

      • +1

Ah, thanks for this. There goes the HTPC idea. Damn.

  • +2

    dude its $116

    • Hahahaha yep they expect that the thermal past been replaced as well haha

    • +1

Dude, who are you replying to?

  • +2

Note : Unit comes without inbuilt WIFI and secondary HDD caddie

  • How well would this run Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition? Noting it has no dedicated GFX.

    • +1

Onboard it has an Intel HD 530 iGPU, based on the lower HD 520, it should perform well enough to enjoy.

  • +2

Won't support Windows as of October 2025, will support Linux Mint 22, Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12.

Fantastic value for the hardware, only thing missing long-term is the TPM hardware cryptography chip.

    • +2

Or just bypass the checks for 11

      • -2

There are guarantees that Windows 11 without TPM will remain supported, but if the person who owns it is capable of bypassing it than there is no harm in trying to stay on Windows via 11.

If I was setting this up for a relative, I'd set them up with Mint 22.

        • +6

I like linux, but most people I know who don't know how to set up their own PC, would not be happy using; nor would they really know how to use Linux. Heck even people I know who do set up their own PC don't know how to use Linux.

          • +1

@Boioioioi: Id recommend giving Linux Mint 22 a go, if you're on an iGPU you're going to have a fairly similar experience.

          • +1

@Boioioioi: OTOH, for friends and family who want you to set up their PC for them, installing Linux will means easier and less frequent support needs in future!
            ChromeOS Flex even better.

            • -1

@bargaino: There will be less support calls because they won't be using it.

              • +5

@iguana: Then you've just maximised their security. The best defence is to live in a cave.

But in all seriousness, most Windows users don't know how to use Windows. Linux DEs are no different, just put an icon for Firefox/Chrome on the desktop and label it "The Internets" and they'll be sorted.

  • Do these have a second m.2 connector soldered as in the photos?
In some reviews that I have seen the second m.2 connector has not been added.

    • this lot has only one m.2 connector. Listing is now updated accordingly

  • I'll bite - will be good for a home office PC.

    Thanks OP!

  • -8

    CPU is from 2015.

    • +5

And? CPU’s last a very long time unless you are really pushing the thing. But it’s not intended to be blasted. It’s $116 for an entire computer.

      • CPU’s last a very long time

        Laughs in intel oxidation problems.

    • +1

Congratulations, you know how to use Google.

    • -2

You have been downvoted for stating a fact and pointing out this CPU is 9 years old. I don't know what is wrong with some people.

I've used this CPU before, upgraded to 7500t and not full HEVC support.

  • I use a similar for VPN/RDP/web browsing.
    No issues at all.

  • out of stock now……

  • +4

OP. please make the Dell Optiplex 7070 Mini PC $239 and I'll bite 😅

    • +1 ready to click!

    • I would love this

    • Same!

    • Sold & OP is gone … :)
