Different does not necessarily mean better. only time will tell.

  • No stock in Vic

      Price match at JB

  • No stock in my area. JB was happy to price match 4 packs though,Shipping $5.99 or free C&C

  • So say I purchased these to control a bedside lamp, would I need anything else (either from Google or Amazon's ecosystem) to handle the voice control side of it? Or can I use an app on my iPhone from one of those providers to handle it listening for the commands (note, needs to be voice prompted, not in-app button to turn on/off)?

Need to link it to your Google Home app on your phone then you can use voice command.

  • It's a good deal, but these TP-Link devices seem to fail a lot (based on my own experience, and from the experiences of others in the comments). Be sure to keep your receipt.

I have had so many of these (and the old style - HS110) fail over the years.
Unfortunately I bought them from an online retailer which doesn't have physical stores, each time they failed I had to send them back to TP-Link to have them replaced (At my cost, they wouldn't cover return postage despite my many attempts - Cost me about $9-10 each time). I still have 1 that has failed and I can't be stuffed going through the BS again…

Moral of the story, buy these from a physical store so you can take them back to for a full refund or replacement within the warranty period without dealing with BS
DO NOT buy them from somewhere that doesn't operate a online only business.

    • For next time, throw ACL at them: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-…

"If the business confirms that the product does have a problem, it must reimburse the consumer for any reasonable return costs they have already paid. Consumers should keep receipts for postage or transport costs so that they can be repaid by the business."

  • Wonder how these differ to TP Link Kasa - I’ve got a bunch of the Kasa and have zero issues

  • If jb has these, it'd be perfect for the $20 voucher.

    • JB has these sets at $47, so you'll have to price-match beforehand.

Although it looks like at least one person has thought of this and managed to grab a set for $4 already. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15575654/redir

      • Was only able to find the non-energy monitoring 2pc at the time. It seems to show up with the keywork P110. Also, surprised that the live chat is still up at this hour. Managed to place an order for $4. Maybe I will cancel the bunning order. Cheers.

  • Have 28 of these and haven't had any issues yet.

    No tuya no buy.

    • I'm on the other end of the spectrum, and have a generally dim view of Tuya and the number of vendors selling off the shelf customised versions of products from the Tuya marketplace. (Arlec Grid Connect, Kogan, et al.)

Then again I kind of dislike the TP-Link ones too.

      Hmm.

      • Tuya is nice enough to run cloud server for everyone for free while others charge subscription fee, so I wouldn't blame much. So far the app basic functionalities are quite reliable and never lock me out of the house. I know it's buggy some other times but same as google home.

      • (Arlec Grid Connect, Kogan, et al.)

I see this as a good thing because they can all be run off the same app.

  • As others have said, I bought about a dozen of the "Crest" branded version of these from Big W yonks ago when they were on sale for $7.50 each from memory, and had a fair few die within months. They're good when they work - and they'll work within the Tuya app like most other rebadged Tuya products, but it's very hit-and-miss when it comes to longevity / quality :(

(I'm assuming they're the same hardware just flashed with different firmware - all these things look the same both physically and the software too)

  • sounds like mixed results on the quality. My current one has been going for couple of years, but had an arlec one die.

Might as well roll the dice a give these another go.

  • oh oh, i bought the 4 pack during amazon prime day.

    $45 now.

    • Just noticed that. I had placed the order, only for them to say they were out of stock just before the price went up. I wonder whether it was a mistake?

    • Wait, what?

      One P110 is $22.

So, buy a two pack and pay only $1 extra?
      I'm afraid not.

It's avaliable on Bunnings again. Please note, if you have One Pass, you can just pick any random store that has stock and have it delivered for free. Otherwise you'll have to travel pretty remotely to grab it. I got mine at Cranbourne just now on One Pass.

    • Thanks, just grabbed one

    • this doesnt seem to work for me - i select an in stock location (interstate), and when i change to delivery it tells me to contact my local store

      • You're 4-5 days too slow. Most stock in the country would have disappeared already

        • +1

got it to work - had to find a store in NSW showing instock
so hopefully the stock levels are correct

          • @fretwekk: I tried last Friday. The order went through, then got a call 15 minutes later to say there was actually no stock and that I would be refunded.

  • JB just price matched for $34 (after noting I'd have to pay delivery from Bunnings, as they did a check for instock).

So I ordered 2 packs and the click and collect was ready in < 10 mins (!)

FWIW Bunnings Smithfield and Albury have low stock. Most stores are out.

    • I just price matched for $24 earlier
