    • +2

      15 each I believe

      • +1

$15.95. At my local RR at least.

  • How does it compare to Costco's Roasted Chicken? It's only $6.99 normal price!

    • +4

A lot smaller but tastier and more flavoursome than Costco roast chicken IMO.

    • Costco for the win ! Forgot about their cheap chickens

    • at the moment I would say smaller, tastier, more convenient to buy
the nearest red rooster to me at the moment is about 2k the nearest costco is about 1500k 🙂

      • Just bought one of each to compare! Most of the comments are valid and fair enough. Thanks! Red rooster's chicken are smaller, hence they cooked through better. Putting the Costco chicken to oven for 7 mins at 180 degrees to reheat, it tasted much better and it's super juicy. The fact that Costco chicken is only $6.99 is a winner imo. RR is good but not for $15.95, it's more than double the price! That's too much under this economy!

Costco does the worst roast chicken that I've ever bought.

It has a 'boiled' texture, not roasted and has a funny after taste.

Even our dog would not eat it.

  • Real ozbargainer will treat tomorrow as thanks giving

    • Do Australians celebrate thanks giving now? Halloween I understand, sort of, but thanks giving?

Break them down, dice them and freeze. Easy chicken toasted sandwiches etc

      • +6

I don't even dice, just pull it all off the bone and put in zip lock bags and freeze like that, then can use it for sandwiches, cheat roast dinner, quesadillas etc etc….you can dice it later when you are going to use it. I do this with the cold redlea chickens (2 for $15) regularly, but have to say, I do love me some RR

        • +1

          RedleaCold chickens from where?

          • +2

@capslock janitor: Nepean Square, Penrith, but only if they have enough left from the day before…they use some of their cold chicken for things like their rice etc etc, but sometimes they will have at least 2 and I get two at a time. It is $8 each or 2 for $15

I've always felt that it's almost cheaper to buy cooked, by the time you buy the chook, season it and roast it an electric oven, I would have thought the price of buying cooked is similar.

    Am I missing anything obvious?

*Mind you, I have been buying Woolies free range chooks when on special, so maybe not a fair comparison
*Also noticed that Coles worth chooks seem smaller when roasted.

    • Over charcoal with peri peri, or on a smoker with some alabama white sauce, that's some flavours you are missing out on.

    • I never cook them myself either. I get 2 cold bbq ones for $15 and pull off the bone and freeze it and then can use anytime (our local Redlea chicken shop, when they have some left over from the previous day)

The deli chicken at colesworth are a loss leader product.

They have very minimal profits but they encourage people to buy other products for the purchase.

You go buy a chicken then you need bread, salad , a drink etc.

    • Buying and cooking means you can get an organic chook, or season how you like. And the option to slow boil to also get 2-3L of genuine stock. I think it's worth it.

These are fine for a fast dinner though.

      • These cooked hooks good for rotisserie PHO recipe
