It’s free, OP is buying for us all

  • Thank you! JbHifi didnt want to price match as they felt it was out of stock. So ordered from AO

    • +1

I used chat and they price matched for me. I'm going to pick up right now, perhaps that will work for you too. AO is in backorder and it says August there, that's too long mate

  • +1

There's the price! Now where we going?!

  • Any current 10% gift card offers?

Secondm significantly better than the Sonos I dumped.

Anyone able to confirm that this is cheaper than the Samsung Education store? Assuming so, but it's not letting me login to verify

    • -1

Only the C is there and it's OOS.

    • +1

      Not available on the store

    • -2

Why would a soundbar be on an education store?

  • -1

    What's the update of D over C
I remember 990C was below 1k in last deal

    • +3

Fews thing may be best to search online

    • +5

The biggest jump is 4k 120hz pass through support!

    • Was below 1k little bit before this one was about to come out. This will be 1k before q990e comes out etc

  • I brought the Q930D-XY for $930 at the good guys by price matching Appliance online

  • Does anyone have experience with these sound bars in a pretty open lounge room.

    https://gyazo.com/19ad75c2e9a1ef9a584af8755b95043f

Lounge is next to the AC and Tv etc on the opposite wall. I just wasn't sure if it is open like that if the sound gets lost if that makes sense?

    • +1

If you set up satellite speakers behind couch it’s damn good. I’ve 990C.
      It’s BLOODY good.

      • Cheers mate definitely would be mounting them behind the couch

    • +1

i had a previous years version of this in an open room and was happy with it, surround at back was still nice and immersive and sound bar has a better sound stage than i was expecting but subwoofer was disappointing. After moving to enclosed space def notice more surround and woofer performs bit better but thinking (sub) just wasnt that good on then older versions.

  • How does this compare to an actual 5.1 Setup purchased like 10 years ago for $1000? My experience with Soundbars hasn't been great, bought a $800 Samsung a few years back.

    • I had the same question and went and tested it out.

It definitely has room filling sound - I was impressed. It doesn't sound small at all, and this was at TGG, so wasn't an ideal room.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my 5.2 setup for it to get back more space

    • I used to own a Sony Muteki 6.2 setup that i bought in 2007. It was a beast! After much research I upgraded to Samsung flagship Soundbar Q90R (in 2018) for $1.1k. It has been magnificent with crisp, room-filling sound. The rears can be a bit low with Atmos but they still do a decent job.

      • +1

@Nickelback - A Sony Muteki home theatre in a box system was an entry level system into the world of separate audio component setups, and is not really a great setup to be using to compare them to soundbars. I bought a Sony Muteki 6.2 home theatre in a box system as my very first setup when I was a poor 25 year old man in 2006, I certainly wouldn’t buy one now, or a soundbar, now that I am in my early 40s and have more money. I wouldn’t want anything other than a receiver/amps/speakers/subwoofer/s setup.

        • Definitely agree. It was an entry level setup and I too was poor & almost 25 when i bought it. I'm not an audiophile but I loved the Muteki. The Sammy Soundbar was a step up for me personally in terms of sound.

          • @Nickelback: I have to admit that I did love the Sony Muteki HTiB setup when I was a young 25 year old… I’ve seen some people comment online in the past that in their opinion it’s a bogan system, I certainly embraced my inner bogan when I owned it 😝… I have fond memories of playing Fight Night Round 3 on the Xbox 360 and the audio being output from a Muteki. I did sell on the Sony Muteki in 2008 after owning it for 18-20 months, and made upgrades to my AVR, speakers, and subwoofers, plus I added separate 2 channel and 5 channel power amps… Generally soundbars are vastly inferior to seperate audio components setups, which includes that cute babies toy the Nakamichi Dragon. I would never use a soundbar for my main setup, in my guest bedroom maybe.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yep. It does come with "bogan approved" status. I've read those comments too…lol

      • I remember selling truckloads of those when I worked at JB

        • If I remember correctly it came in 2 huge boxes.

    • +2

I have a higher end Jamo setup and AV, and the definition and separation between instruments is beautiful; especially on higher fidelity audio or when a sound track becomes part of a movie. However for a home system, I auditioned these a few times at the store and was honestly impressed.

If I went back in time and didn't buy a full 5.1 setup, I would go something like this as its just so much easier to setup than running cable through ceiling, hours of configuring the AV, setup etc.

  • Asked JB to price match but since it's on backorder they couldn't do it - just went with AO anyway, reward the OG

    • Chat price matched for me, and it's already ready to pick up. ETA for this one is end of August, that is not worth the wait

    • Why do need price match at jb when it's free delivery ?

  • is it time to upgrade from HW-N850 range ?
Also how much is mine worth now

    • +1

I had the N950, sold it for like $450 to a mate recently as I'm building up a Sonos system slowly.

  • Ouch too much $ for me but my room is small, no point spending so much.

  • Anyone know if I can replace the sub in this with my bigger standalone Yamaha sub? And then use the sub in this for my pc

    • Rtings noted that their is no sub output on this unit (rca). So no, not unless your yamaha can talk wirelessly to the Samsung. Or if you can install a Samsung compatible wireless reciever on you Yamaha.

      • How does the sub that comes with it talk to it?

        • wirelessly.

        • +1

          Very politely

  • +1

Price matched via JB chat and picked up. Box was quite a bit larger than anticipated.

  • Tempted to get out of the Sonos home theatre system we currently have (beam, sub, symfonisk). Anyone have any knowledge how this would compare?

    • +1

Had a discussion about this over Sonos. Sonos is surely a better set up and have the ability to add more speaker along the way in the future. Sound wise is also better for sonos, especially if you get the arc. Samsung 990D is only good for the money if you dont have a set up and wanted that complete 11.1.4 set up system for less money. You will spend more on sonos to set up 11.1.4 but this is a cheaper option and sound quality is good on samsung, but not on par with sonos yet.

      • +1

I have both set up and persoanlly think my 990c set up sounds better then my sonos set up.

My sonos set up isnt the latest but its still an Arc + Sub gen 1 + 2xPlay Ones.

Only big advantage of Sonos imo is music. It sounds alot better then the samsung.

However i have heard people say the Arc + Sub + 2xEra 300s will below many systems out of the water.

But thats really a expensive set up…

    • If you want better audio take a real step. This will be more sideways. Find some towers or bookself speakers and an AVR and build up progressively from there. I recommend the Denon x3800h. r/hometheatre on reddit has a guide comparing soundbars to traditional speakers and how select system components to suit.

      • +1

Thanks. Unfortunately the current space is why we opted for Sonos (wireless), coming from a proper 9 speaker, 2 sub setup at our old place.

        • If you’re tough on space, best off looking at something like a Krix LX7, a passive LCR all in one

  • +1

Friend got a Sonos soundbar but when changing channels it doesn’t do a good job with volume auto levelling, contacting Sonos offered no solution. By getting a Samsung soundbar with a Samsung tv at least you know they will play nicely with each other through q-symphony.

    • That’s strange. Could be a TV issue. I have a Sonos soundbar and never had this issue.

  • Got a price match and collected from JB today. Setup after dinner and watched Top Gun Maverick (for the first time - what a movie as well) on a Sony 75X90J. What an experience. Truly a game changer coming from internal TV speakers to this.

    • +1

Agree. Top Gun Maverick is such an amazing movie!

  • Price is now $10 cheaper

  • Jb wouldn’t price match over chat for me

    • +2

      Try again with another agent

      • I did and it worked! Woo

  • -2

Got it for 1200 plus 180 for 5 year extended warranty from jbhifi.

    • +8

      hand in your budge, Tarun.

    • +3

Tarun… why the extended warranty? We have consumer protections!

      • 2y..
But agree, store extend warranty is for suckers haha. As long as you do your research can be fairly sure of your purchase.

      • Use for 2+ year, then say u got some issue with system return to JB to get the latest one

        • +3

yeah, still hand in that badge.
admitting fraud, and using your real name on a public forum, jeeeez

  • +1

I've had this one for a few years, paid around $1200 or less whatever the last banging price was - highly recommend!

Works well with google TV plugged directly into the soundbar and HDMI Arc to TV (as my tv doesn't have Atmos). I can say you don't need to spend any more on a better soundbar.

  • Someone who has experience both please chime in…if you were put in a room blindfolded with one of these plugged in to a great Atmos-driven movie, could you tell the difference between a true 5.2.1 Atmos system with fronts, rears and ceiling-mounted speakers?

Does the "room filling sound" people talk about above really sound like it's coming from beside and above you like a true 5.2.1?

    • +1

Yes, but also a 5.2 or 5.1 system with a proper receiver and separate speakers will run you a lot more than $1200. So you exchange money and convenience for something that in a direct comparison sounds a bit less open and relaxed. Still will sound really good and way better than a single soundbar or let alone tv speakers. If you don't compare it with what a real $4 or 5k set up can do, it's great.

  • Managed to get this pricematched via JB hifi chat. First guy wouldn't do it for less than 1450, but I refreshed the chat and got a new guy, and he matched the 1225. I used 5% discount vouchers to bring total outlay to $1163 all in. I picked it up Sunday and it sounds incredible. Awesome deal!

  • Can someone advise if sound quality is same between wifi and hdmi

    • What are you playing? Wifi has a different use case and is used for Chromecast, Spotify connect

      • My TV and Soundbar are connected to eaxh other via samsung smarthing wifi.

Playing everything youtube, netflix etc etc

        • Didn’t realise you could connect TVs via Wifi Audio out…

I’d use your TVs eARC or Arc support via HDMI (if your tv has them) for the best experience.

Unsure if Atmos can be done via wifi

        • Why wouldn't you just use a HDMI cable from TV to soundbar, it probably comes with one (not sure).

  • This or Sonos ARC?

    • +1

I bought the 990c to compare with my Sonos ARC. Ended up selling my Sonos ARC and staying with this. Better sound. Sonos has better control through the app and sometimes I have to manually turn on the Samsung soundbar to get it working with the TV though

    • +1

      This.

  • +2

Price dropped to 1202, price matched with JB for same price.

    1202 - 10 Perks - $54 using MyBupa 4.5% gift cards.

    Final price is $1,138
    +$19.99 delivery

    • I am not sure if I am doing something wrong here. JB HI Fi wouldn't price match appliance online as the item is not readily available. Tried couple of phone calls and few chats. None of them would price match and wouldn't even budge. How did you do that?

      • +1

Appliances online are good, just get from them.
Not always worth making things harder for yourself, but nice if it's easy to get from JB (sounds like they'd have to get it in especially so too much trouble).

        • Yes, I just placed an order through Appliance Online. I have $1100 worth of JB gift cards that I thought of using to buy this. But it wasn’t worth the hassle, so I just gave up.

          • @treatabargain: Boom good one.
Ah that makes sense. Lucky to get them to beat the best prices anyway I've found).

    • Can you please post your invoice, so I can request a price match. TIA

  • I also got this price matched today for $1202 at JB Hi Fi

    • Can you please post your invoice, so I can request a price match. TIA

  • Any idea how long this deal will last? Hoping to get this ordered tomorrow/Saturday.

  • Price keeps fluctuating daily with Appliance Online eh, installed it last night from JB, big upgrade from Yamaha YAS-109. Sounds amazing.

    • They are awesome, i tested those cheap Yamaha soundbars but they are pretty poor, no dynamics or anything. If your tv doesn't have Atmos I suggest getting a Google TV and plugging directly into the soundbar HDMI in. I got the q950a but the sound is great for streaming and movies.

  • $1198 from Appliances Online - tried JB with two different agents - no go due to ‘limited stock’ at AO. Free delivery at least at AO.

  • AO price went up to $1292, but they have $50 off storewide for Afterpay day.

JB price matched at $1242 after my second attempt.
