FYI I can see it on Amazon with a code for the same price https://www.amazon.com.au/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Charger-C…

    • Seems like same merchant store.

    • I noticed the Amazon listing doesn’t say it includes the 140W USB-C to USB-C cable… anyone grabbed one and can verify?

  • Thanks for helping with my first post :)

Why do they name a device capable of taking down an aircraft after an aircraft?

    • irony

    • +2

In case you're serious, there's never been an aircraft crash caused by a single lithium ion battery device.

      • -1

        "capable of"
I bet there are many things and many weapons that haven't done it, but are still not allowed.

        • +1

This device can be taken on aircraft, since it's below 100Wh

Genuine question, who still uses powerbanks on a regular basis?

I find that there are enough power points and even USB ports everywhere I go.

Playing steam deck on the couch or in bed it's a must.

      • You don’t have power points in your home?

        • +2

No, not in my couch and I don't like having a long cord draped across my bed. I've used the tie on the charging cable to get it to an exact length where I barely notice it's plugged in.

I've also used my charger on a few occasions for work. If I leave my laptop in my car overnight it's a lot easier just using the charger than awkwardly trying to find wall plugs at a clients.

I charge a couple of PowerBanks off a portable solar panel every day .

Charging iPad phones , ok maybe not 2everyday because directly charging other stuff (anything with a battery like lec toothbrush , robot vac) and in winter it takes a whole day to fully charge one of these tricklecharging with a 120w panel .

    • I travel a lot and always have a big one in my EDC with cables to charge phone when I'm out all day. Phones use a lot of juice when you're using goggle maps all day and don't get back to the hotel until dinner time.

      • Using any offline maps alternative, and 'simple' GPS is shockingly accurate these days if you ever needed to, and will almost halve your battery drain, if you were ever worried about it and unable to charge the power bank beforehand :)

    • When I attend a conference, I use my laptop to record the notes. However the battery of my Dell only lasts for 4 hours, and I have to use a portable charger to complete the whole day, typically 8-9 hours. You cannot find a USB ports in every seat of the the lecture theatre.

  • +1

Can you take that on the plane to oversea?

    • +1

One should be able to as the limit for international travel is, afaik, 100Wh. This has allegedly 86.4Wh. I only had my Xiaomi ZMI No.20 pulled out once (done maybe a dozen international legs with it?) for them to calculate it (honestly the label had it all there but I think they wanted to be sure), and that one has 90.75Wh.

I can't guarantee there isn't a country/airline out there with stricter rules, but at least for me all the travel I do is covered by the 100 rule. Domestic I believe the limitations are 160 but do not quote me on that one.

      • Did they seriously get you to pull it out at the airport to inspect it? I did not know that they actually do that. What did they ask? What did they say?

        • +4

Yup. My bag was sorted out of the scanner and they opened it, fished around for all my batteries and had a look. They carefully read the capacity on the side and used a calculator to double check the reported Wh, and when I cheekily snarked it was "just under" he laughed a bit and said yes.

I've had my spare 18650 batteries checked too, and unlike the lady before me who had AAs semi-loose in opened retail packaging inside of a takeaway container (she had to throw those out), all of mine were in dedicated cases that prevented accidental discharge. The inspector for this one remarked "we like to see this" (i.e., stored carefully).

So yes, if taking a LARGE powerbank on a flight, make sure the capacity information is still clear to read on it.

          • @kwchaz: This is interesting. Thanks for the detailed response. I'll be taking an Anker 737 and a Xiaomi ZMI No.20 with me on a flight next week. So good to know what can potentially happen. Will also be sure not to pack any loose AA's in a lunchbox, haha.

    • Yeah you can it says on the side of it too when they checked me I bought because it was clearly visible

    • +1

Yes. Been overseas with this recently and had no issues.

  • -2

But I can pay half the price for one that can just start a car?

    https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/adventure-kings-1000a-lithi…

    • -4

I think this is too much power at once for most phones, unless you have one of the newest iPhones which it should probably work with as they can take very high chargiing levels. I don't know how you would connect it tho

Most ppl on ozbargain are a bit poor though and I would imagine mostly have android so this would be no good for most here

      • +2

These come with USB ports. The power output to start your car is the max output, it’s not like it would send the same power to charge your phone lol

        • +2

USB 2 ports of 5v and 0.5a for 2.5w though.

          • @FabMan: Fair. A decent USB hub would be way cheaper than this, though less versatile.

      • So by equivalence, if one has an Android device they're poor vs people with Apple who are rich?
From your comment you don't know much about tech, prices nor functions for certain phones.

FYI - most Android phones have much higher power charging levels than iPhones.
Regardless, live in your boxed view of Apple's being for the rich. The rest of us will roll our eyes.

        • -1

Yes, look at Steve Jobs, a very rich man - he exclusively owned iPhones. Coincidence? I think not.

I do not believe that is true regarding the power charging levels. Most iPhones will charge at 9 volts or above, whereas Android phones always take forever to charge and get very hot (then run out of battery very quickly!).

    • +1

It's also half the capacity isn't it? Like 12000mah vs 24000mah?

    • +1

Yeh these use huge capacitors (the black dongle on the leads) to provide extremely short but large bursts of power. They provide a tiny amount of power continuously, like 2.5w. This can do 140w continously

      • Thanks, interesting to understand the difference.

I also found this on eBay for $72 which seems to have 20,000 mAh and 18 watts (9V/2A) usb charging. That may be enough for a laptop?

        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126081261937

        • +1

Not enough for anything more than a phone or to slow charge an ipad.

Laptops start at 65w (19v and 4A) and go up depending on the laptop.

        • definitely NOT.

      • Where do you get 2.5W from? It says 2x USB with 3A combined. So at least 5V * 1.5A = 7.5W from each USB outlet.

        What did I miss?

        • +2

Was a typo, meant to write 7.5. Usb c port can can do 18w at 9v too apparently.
Either way though those usb ports can't do anything besides charge a phone (and slowly at that)

  • As an owner of a 99whr 140w power bank I'm waiting for the moment airport security takes it because they are confused between power output and capacity.

    • I carry a 40,000mh battery bank through the airport and they often get confused, however they always allow me to carry it after attempting to figure out the rules

      • So that's a 150whr battery? Which is find in Australia but not the USA?

        • +1

No idea, although we are United States of Australia so should be fine

  • -1

Looks great, but I'd like to know how to connect this to my laptop that doesn't have USB C power in. How do I know a power bank is outputting a voltage my laptop can use to power and charge it? I need 19V and 6.32amps, and 28V is too much, so can it be limited or find one that outputs to 19V only.

    • Sounds like you need a new laptop.

I have a gaming laptop that i use a Bluetti EB35 with, but this has AC power conversion.
My work and mrs laptops all have usbc charging and charge just fine.

    • You can't connect this if it doesn't have usbc. This uses the Power Delivery protocol. Very different to the dc input your laptop likely has.

    • +3

For many laptop's you can get a special cable to go from USB C to whatever the plug is.

I was able to charge my ThinkPad 430s from a USB C powerbank using a cable off eBay.

  • Great device! I use this when on the go for laptop and iPad. Recharges quickly too, which is great

  • These bricks are awesome. I use one regularly for gaming on my Asus ROG Ally

  • I've got one of these to give my Zbook Fury a little extra life on the road.
Can confirm it delivers around 130w to it

  • Kinda heavy but sturdy

This is Mrwhostheboss's favourite power bank

  • Why is this one $300.. they say it's a newer model but with same specs?
    Anker 737 Power Bank B2C - UN Black Iteration 1 https://amzn.asia/d/50Jocgq

    • If the old model doesn't have significant problems then a New model is released almost always because they found a way to cut the costs of manufacturing
In consumer products, it could also be just for the looks, a "facelift"

    • No that one is even higher capacity at 27650mah which at 3.6v is 99540mwh so just under the 100wh limit.

      • I have the 27K version. No problem taking it to Amsterdam 2 weeks ago.

  • I have an excessive number of batteries at home, which is starting to worry me. It's crucial to buy high-quality ones, as any of the 100+ batteries I currently own could unexpectedly leak or explode, causing a fire risk.

    • Also id say a ton of them are standard lithium

  • for reputable reviews of power banks, check out AllThingsOnePlace on YT. a techy that knows the science and actually does proper testing

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIrLw1fQ3GU

TL:DR its mediocre. overpriced for what it delivers. but its pretty.

    • That conclusion is based on it being full price though ($150USD/$230AUD). At full price I would agree.

But at this price point its a good deal

  • +1

how does this compare with the xiaomi's one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/859846

other than the neglible capacity, xiaomi one looks to be max 100w output per port, vs 140w for this one?

reading through historical comments: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14370502/redir and https://e-catalog.com/cmp/118900/737-power-bank-vs-zmi-power… looks like either is pretty good options, with a slight edge to xiaomi zmi other than the 140w vs 100w.

    • +1

my advise is to take the word of someone with hands on experience and does proper tests, see: AllThingsOnePlace over those whos knowledge is purely derived from the marketing material.

      • +1

Thanks great channel, do you know if there's any power banks he likes in particular and can recommend.

    • I had a Xiaomi and it was the best of my banks, got water on it when charging from another battery and it stuffed it (even with a fuse)

    • +1

Hey! I have both 👌🏻 And they both trade punches. Part of it is definitely the form factor - I really like both (the more traditional rectangular shape on the Zmi vs the unusual almost can-of-soda-like design of the 737). The Zmi, of course, doesn't have any screen other than the one that shows you how much charge is left, and whether trickle charge mode is on - that's about it. That's where the 737 has a big advantage, if that matters to you.

Otherwise… strangely, I definitely feel as though I get many more hours out of the Zmi than the 737 (despite it only being 1k mAh bigger). The other really important thing is that the Zmi goes up to 210W - and it's true - I've had my Macbook plugged into USB-C 1 charging at 100W, and my iPhone 15 Pro into USB-C 2 and then charging another power bank at the same time via the USB-A slot (purely for testing) - it was warm to the touch, but otherwise, it was charging everything without issue, and fast, I'm talking very fast (210W fast).

And yeah, I honestly prefer the aesthetic of the Zmi, but that's just a personal, subjective thing. I've also - strangely - been grilled about the 737, how many wattage hours it has etc, at the airport - never had the Zmi questioned? Weird. This quote from one of the Amazon reviews sums it up:

"This is probably the best bank money can buy. I run a review site for testing, and own probably every major power bank on the market.

Uses genuine Samsung 21700 IMC 50E 5000mAh cells. The capacity of this bank when measured comes to within ±2%. Most banks on the market are up to - 25% of their capacity when measured.

Extremely good efficiency, has some of the best circuit topology and is extremely efficient"

And as someone else said - the best thing to do is watch and read professional reviews. I've got both, I also have an Anker 12K Prime bank (the latest and greatest from Anker), but I'm seriously thinking about selling it. The screen and look are gorgeous, it charges both my phone and laptop very quickly… but it is damn heavy, and why would I need the stupidly high output power when it's purely meant for my phone??? As in, if you plug in anything that needs a high wattage input, the 12K will be gone in a heartbeat.

They have also released the same but as a 20K bank and 26K bank (I believe). But to get to the levels of wattage output… I believe they're capable of it, but the issue is that to get to those levels, it will get hot, hence it needs good cooling, hence them being huge and heavy.

I read on multiple sites that the 26K is 900g - that's insane! If it's true. So yeah, I'd seriously consider avoiding the Prime series, if you can, as tempting as it may be. It does suck, though, I wish they'd released basically a slightly bigger 737 (maybe 26K hours or even higher, if they could get it under the airline rules and not make it too heavy).

I think, overall, you'd be super happy with the 737 or the Zmi. Both excellent banks, pretty much the pinnacle, hence the price tag… 100% worth it, though, especially instead of a shitty, nobody-knows-it brand on Amazon - the price may be temping, but it just isn't worth it. Safety reasons, efficiency reasons, true battery mAh exaggerated (meaning, their claim that it's 20K mAh when in reality it's closer to 15K), flimsy feel, bad display (or none at all) et cetera - none of those are true or an issue with either the 737 or the Zmi.

Finally, the 737 can be bought for $137 with free express shipping (depending on your location + eBay plus), found here: eBay listing.

      I hope this was useful!

      • +1

        Woah!! Thanks for the explanation!

        • No worries! Are you a lawyer? Based on your username 😅 as I am a solicitor. Anyway… again, no problem, just wanted to give you my input 👌🏻. And sorry for not clarifying it, about the quote from a review that I mentioned in my comment - it is for the Zmi and is found here.

And as I said - you'd love either, truly. Or, get both like me 😉 If you want something smaller, I would very strongly recommend a UGREEN 10K power bank - You can find the UGREEN 30W bank here. It holds its charge well, charges my phone very quickly (it is 30W output, which is crazy for how small it is), as stated it is extremely small (which means better for travel, commuting etc), and I've had zero issues with it, and I bought it a long time ago, and use it almost daily.

For $40… that's crazy. I can't explain the size and weight, other than saying it is extremely small and light, and perfect for those days when you need power, as a backup, but you don't need 24K.

For that price… you really can't go wrong.

Definitely get the black, if you decide to buy it - the white not only looks worse, it performs worse, they don't even feel and look like the same bank (I own the black and my sister owns the white). That way you could happily be like me - literally tiny bank for going to work, or for a short holiday, or even in a sling/bag for a night out, drinking until the early hours of the morning.

It also charges very quickly, from memory also at 30W - I can get it from 0% to 100% in two hours, as UGREEN said is possible - not the fastest, but again, for the small size, you can only pack in a certain amount of mAh, hence the bank not being 50W, 60W et cetera.

If you truly want the best for your phone, the Anker Prime 12K is a fairly solid choice - but only if you don't care about how big and heavy it is. The advantages over the UGREEN are that it a) charges devices much faster, b) charges itself at a very high wattage/rate, c) has the gorgeous display and a super nice design, and d) doesn't overheat, not even when charging my laptop at 65W.

Okay, I'll leave it there, I'd better get back to preparing submissions for my VCAT matter 🤣.

  • +1

    Edit: fixed errors.

This power bank is available via eBay Plus for $137 - see this link for listing. Great power bank - I own this, the Xiaomi Zmi and one of the new Anker "Prime" series (12k mAh). Happily would recommend the 737 or the Zmi. I wouldn't bother with the Prime series - even my 12K power bank is so heavy and clunky, for what it is - all because Anker has seemingly decided that the best thing to do is increase the wattage output, hence requiring more cooling, hence making them very heavy and bulky.
