  • Does this support eSIM?

    • +11

No, cheapest Samsung in Australia with eSIM is the A55

      • +2

        Cheers!

      • +1

Does that mean amaysim description is incorrect? I just noticed on their Galaxy A35 5G page it says: eSIM 5G new unlocked
        https://www.amaysim.com.au/devices/phones/samsung/samsung-ga…

        • +2

nope nvm A35 (Only Europe, North America, Korea) only as per https://www.samsung.com/nz/support/mobile-devices/galaxy-esi…

        • They may say that on the website, but for the Moto G54 which actually has eSIM support, you can order it from Amaysim with an eSIM included. For the A35 it appears to only offer you a physical SIM.

Based on this I am assuming the description is wrong, and their system knows the A35 they are selling doesn't support eSIM.

        • Looks like amaysim has corrected it. NO ESIM…. now

    • -2

yes it does support eSIM. written directly on amaysim website

        • reviews all across YT confirm it does support eSIM.
If for some reason australian delivered A35's dont support eSIM, then that means this would be an Asian market device.
From what I can see, the samsung website does not explicitly mention anything about NOT supporting esim.
Amaysim website states it does have eSIM support.

So you are entitled to a full refund if the device doesnt have eSIM support

          • @Captain Cheapskate:

samsung website does not explicitly mention anything about NOT supporting esim

You’d think a company would try to advertise all features on their sales page especially when it cost extra to add an eSIM module. Also what part of A35 Only Europe, North America, Korea screams Australia.

            • @AH: typo's happen.
amaysim could be sourcing this device from korea

              • @Captain Cheapskate: Ah yes, I accidentally type A35 Only Europe, North America, Korea

                • @AH: I wasnt talking about you

                  • @Captain Cheapskate: Neither was I. Was talking about how samsung made that typo on https://www.samsung.com/nz/support/mobile-devices/galaxy-esi…, as well as omitting it on their site. Its almost as if it doesnt support it.

                    • @AH: Maybe the new guy was on that day/miscommunications? who knows. mistakes happen all the time.
At the end of the day, the only marketing material that matters is that of the sellers. if the sellers marketing is misleading in anyway that affects your buying decision, then you are entitled to full refund if it does not live up to the claims made.
just take a screenshot of the marketing, then order it, if it dont work as expected, get refund.

                      • @Captain Cheapskate: why do people care so much about eSims? isn't it more convenient that if your phone breaks for any reason, you can just pop a sim out and put it in another phone?

Only benefit is on phone with single sim slot to make them dual sim, but does this only have one sim slot?

                      • @Captain Cheapskate: Maybe I'll try and get a refund as I bought it on the same day received this morning and no this doesn't support an esim. I also have screenshots before amaysim updated their webpage for A35

                        • @Zapwap: A shame. Thanks for letting us know

                        • @Zapwap: Hi Zapwap, Could you please let me know if the phone supports dual sim? If yes, is it 2 SIMs + SD card slots or hybrid (1 SIM + Choose (another SIM or SD card).

    • Off-topic: apology.

      Surely, SOME-people believe that Samsung-A35 is worth an extra-$90 (299-209) more than Moto-G54 ?
If yes, please consider voting for it-> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/840570

    Thanks OP.
If anyone still has the 3G ending $150 code, it takes $200 off this phone for some reason.
    Total was $129

    • +1

Why not hold the code till Sep for $250 off?

      • So how to get this code , targeted or something that’s generic ?

        • targeted and only if you have an active number with them and they detected your current phone will not work after 3G shutdown

      • I'm ready, amaysim would need to hold off on this price by then

      • What do you mean? Why will it be $250 off in Sept?

      • +1

Why not hold the code till Sep for $250 off?

@Neoika: Pls provide a link to the source, thanks.

        • +1

No source. I just used the code (supposedly expired in July) on the G54 bundle for $39 (probably from 15 Aug). I mean that a little patience gets you more eventually.

If this hack works, I may get another code (due to code being hijacked by another customer).

    • Good pickup. How old is that code of yours? Mine doesn't work anymore :(

      • +1

Aww! I got my code on 16/07/2024, it said expires 31/07 but still worked lol

        • +1

I got it on the same day with the same expiry but does not work anymore :(

    • Was this targeted I didn't receive a $150 code!? email? or sms?

      • Email. If you had a 3G phone

        • -6

How to get the code please ? Email who ?

      • +1

Did you have an active Amaysim SIM connected in a 3G only phone and did not take it out / upgrade despite multiple warnings the network will be switched off?

        • I did and i just checked my emails and I only got this, but no offer!!

We believe you’re an amaysim customer that still uses the Optus 3G network with your mobile number xxxx xxx xxx

The 3G network is being shut down in September 2024. Once this happens, you will not be able to use your phone as you do today. Your ability to stay connected and make calls will be affected unless you upgrade to a device that has a technology called VoLTE, and is compatible with a 4G or 5G* network.

Please check your device specifications to confirm you will need to upgrade.

*5G dependent on selected plan, location and device.

          • @tony87: Okay that's really bad lmao - unless you had multiple SIMs in the one account and one of them were connected to 4G+?

Regardless they sent these out weeks ago.

            • @pennypincher98: Does it make any difference if I was on Vaya before and got switched over to Amaysim automatically?

Also…I tried adding the phone and it says it's not compatible with my postpaid plan….so essentially is this Amaysim's way of just making me get a new phone and a new plan?

              damn hahaha

              • @tony87: I mean it wouldn't surprise me tbh, they're mad you chose Vaya over them 🤣

Unless you're on a special grandfathered plan just for ex-Vaya customers?

                • @pennypincher98: HAHA well now they're one and the same!!!

It's my mum's phone and shes on a cheapo $10 a month for 4gb plan. I guess…this is why they want me gone lol.

                  • @tony87: That definitely sounds like they matched what Vaya offered and not a publicly offered plan - so that would likely explain the ineligibility

        • I had multiple SIMs over 2 accounts. Both accounts got targeted. Wish I had SIMs spread over more accounts!

    • +1

Worked for me too. Said code expires 31/8 instead of 31/7 now too.

    • -2

Care to share and see if it works for someone else?

    • +2

Thanks for the tip. Saw this in middle of the night, went searching through my emails for the 3G ending code, found one and bought for $129. Couldn't resist at that price.

Now to figure out how to root it…

      • would be more straightforward for it to root you

is there any way to use this code if you aren't targeted/don't even have an amaysim currently?

  • -1

Does it run OK with 6gb ram?

  • Do you have to be on a monthly plan to get this? I have a 12 month Amaysim plan and I never get an offer.

    • Same. No offer

  • +2

If you or someone in your family or friends got a 3G phone and an active amaysim service, just pop the card in the phone. Amaysim might detect you're still using a 3G device and sends out a code to your registered email (not to the phone number). It effectively takes $150-$200 off any phone with a plan.

Just bought it for $129 all up ($99 for the phone & $30 plan)

    • +1

I have my SIM on iPhone 4S. I never received email or code.

      • Amaysim might detect..

Try some other phone if you can. My granny has samsung E14, and received a code on her email.

    • Do you reckon how long it took for amaysim to detect it and send the email?

      • +1

        around 20 days

        • Thanks! Maybe worth the gamble if I find one.

      • +1

Amaysim detected the 3G device the same day I popped the card in on 6 July but received the email with a code on 16 July.

    • Damn,will have to see if I can locate a 3g phone

  • Of course this comes out 3 days after I picked up my g84 from big W.

    • +2

      Ignore and enjoy the G84

      • +1

Yep. The g84 was a big step up for me and I'm super happy to back with Motorola and the shake for torch. Missed that so much.

      • Great to see Samsung competing in this space & finger-cross A55 soon…more choices.

  • I'm the original poster of the targeted Amaysim code. If you haven't used your code yet then I may know of a possible broden trick (unethical, i know) that may or may not work but you're gonna have to trust me.

    • I've got a code which expired 31/07 and I didn't get to use it. You think this trick of yours might work for me?

      • +2

If the code still works then yes there's a chance. I'm testing with another member now to see if it actually works.

        • Did it work?

          • +1

@AH: @AH just waiting on the ozb member who reached out to me

    • If you have a number with them just use chat and they will give you a code.

    • Any details? Have a 3G phone and need to upgrade. Hoping to get a phone with eSim better than the g84.

    • +2

I have been using my shitty LG Q6 since 2017 released till now, stupid LG only ever gave me 1 software update and nothing wrong with the phone, all becoz of this 3G shutdown forcing me to change phone.

      • Try telling these pagans Motorola are just as bad !

    • Shouldnt be.

8.1 app support is only just starting to sunset; and mostly due to the new way Android started doing file system access permissions.

Unless something huge changes again (that was a huge change btw, just in case you're not the filesystem nerd type like I am), then this should work a very long time.

Even longer if you dont need "extra" apps and are happy with the defaults.

    • Vast majority of people use old phones without support.

Looking at especially the mom / pops / older people who don't GAF about the latest phones, because their hand-me-down Galaxy S10 still works fine, while their son/daughter got the latest Galaxy S / iPhone etc.

  • +1

I have not pick up my G84 from Big W. Can I still get a refund?
    Which one is a better phone G84? (12GB/256) or A35? (6GB/128)
Talking about the phone itself not the discounted price.

    • Interested to know too. Though you might be better to get out and resell?

    • +4

G84 is vanilla android + 1 'moto' app.

      A35 is Samsungs "One UI".

I own both, one personal, one work, and would choose the Moto any day. I like the lack of bloatware, and vanilla android experience, never been one for 'custom themes'/launchers.

Plus, Im a huge fan of moto-actions now. 'Chop chop' (or shake) for flashlight is far too convenient to pass up.

      BigW Pick Up FAQ

  • Save another $20 if you buy a prepaid sim from Coles or Woolies or wherever and activate. I tried the $2 sim but you need to buy credit. Cheapest credit is $10 for 10G with 7 day expiry. Once purchased you can get this deal, so dont buy the $30 plan as mentioned above. Got the other Amaysim deal for the A13 for my wife and I. Only $189 each which i thought was great. Idc about phones, I break them too quickly to want to spend more than $200 every second year.

    • I wonder how can you checkout without buying a $30 plan?
My current plan is a $30 plan.
      When I checkout they still charge me $30 + 99 = $129
How can I remove this $30 charge?

      • Existing customers can renew their existing plan instead by selecting "Use an existing amaysim plan"

        • +1

Just remember not all plans are valid for this deal, we got PAYG and of coz didn't work

        • You will still get charged $30 as an 'Early renewal' on an existing plan, effectively restarting it from the order date so you can't avoid it.

          • @RX7: So you saying no matter what plan you are on, they will force to charge $30 and switched your current plan?

        • Try-again-> 'Use an existing amaysim plan' ?

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15809155/redir

    • So, if you buy $2 Sim plus $10 credit from say Coles, then go on the link above and use existing plan, will it not ask to again add a plan?

      • Yes and no, I had to renew again, but only for another $10, effectively saving $10 for myself and $30 for my wife as I ordered x2 phones.

        • Where did you buy the $2 sim and how did you get the $10 credit separately? Wouldn’t it be easier to get the $25 value starter pack for $10 from coles or pb at ow the $30 value starter park amaysim has?
