  • They don't release all eps at once do they? It is drip feed one a week like the rest of the streamers?

    • +4

All of the platforms have learned not to release all at once to combat the churning community. But Prime is such good value, I fail to see a reason to churn.

      • +3

No interest in churning just wanting to know if I have to wait 2 months for the whole season or not. I have held a prime membership for years.

        • +1

Judging by season 1, its going to drag out through to end of October.

      • +8

Wouldn’t people churning simply subscribe when the season finishes?

        • +3

That's what I do with Binge. I wait until there are 2 or 3 shows with full seasons ready to watch, subscribe for like 1-2 months then drop it again until next year.

        • +2

That’s what I do with ATV+, and Stan.

I don’t bother doing that with prime as I have it for the deliveries anyway, and let’s face it, it’s only $79 a year.

          • +3

@entropysbane: Same. Skeletor's prime sub has primarily resulted in this.
            https://i.ibb.co/3SwTkSW/20240726-064752726-i-OS.jpg

            • @Skullytor: Damn, that takes me back. I had the Castle Grayskull and figurines when I was a kid. A mate had a He-Man whose chest would flip around to show armour damage when hit. I was jealous, but I had a Moss-man with furry armour (not that furry, you sickos), so everything was good.

        • But fomo water cooler convos

      • +1

I'm not convinced on prime being good value anymore. I just cancelled after 5 years.
There is bugger all to watch. And buying shit you don't need isn't exactly a win

        • i have prime for the shipping and shopping, the TV part I consider a bonus.

        • +1

This. It's filled with "add-on" channels now, there's basically just the prime originals left.

  • +55

Thanks for letting us know, but there's no deal.

    • +2

Ozbargain should have some sort of discussion forum like 2 buttons away from Deal…

      • Isn't that the comment thread?

    • +5

I agree. I get posts notifying you a movie is coming to a streaming service, that might save a few bucks renting it. I don't get advertising TV shows on TV/streaming services though, that post feels like a TV guide not a bargain. Free tonight the ABC News!

  • +46

Bring on season 2 of this monumental disappointment.

    • +9

amen. Loved, loved, loved the movies but couldn't get through this giant yawn fest.

      • +1

IMO it started bad but picked up. Better than the Hobbit movies, in that it at least takes itself seriously. Not as good as the LOTR movies though.

        • +2

"picked up"? As in started bad and built momentum until it was laughingly horrible?

How it got a season 2 I'll never know but the prolefeed factory never seems to stop these days.

          • @EightImmortals: Apparently committed to five seasons my son tells me.

            • +1

@entropysbane: I'd be surprised if it makes it that far. Though I guess in theory they could totally revamp the mess that it is and put someone competent in charge. it worked with Picard Season 3 so it's not like there isn't a precedent. :)

          • @EightImmortals: With the amount of money they spent on the 1st one, i think this is there regular tax write off. Its a shame they had to do ot for a series with such potential

          • @EightImmortals: Meh, as a reader of the books I enjoyed it after a wonky start. Lots of great stuff like Elrond in the dwarf city, the halflings and their unexpectedly dark travelling culture, etc.

It wasn't perfect, but nothing is.

          • @EightImmortals: The only thing that was good about it was the Gandalf back story. The rest was a bit of a mess

        • +1

I got to episode 3 and couldn't be bothered continuing

          • +2

@lunartemis: I finished it, and believe me you made the right decision.

        • +1

Yeah the hobbit movies were 90% filler action scenes. Where as Jackson lotr was all feels and 40% of the book cut out.

    • +1

      More memes!

  • +12

Not a deal, usually I like the heads up for blockbusters coming to streaming services but this is the normal way this content is consumed, you didn't save me a trip to the cinema or anything and it's not a major change to how it's consumed like when Prime took the Cricket World Cup off of Foxtel.

    • +5

This. This is just regular content. It's not a deal, it's not a big time movie coming out. It's just 'hey guys a new season of a TV show I like is coming".

  • What’s the code for free prime subscription?
Really did enjoy the last free month sub .
    Was fantastic value
Now bring on the 3 months free code ..

  • +3

This deal is as good as this series!

  • +9

Good thing my subscription ends before then.

  • +1

I didn't make it through season 1 but what I did watch seemed horrible. Maybe I should try again.

    • +23

      No.

      • +2

Yes (that's a yes to your no, not a yes to trying again.)

    • +6

I gave up when she rode the horse with that weird smile. That broke me.

      • +4

        A smiling horse? Weird.

        • You made me re-watch that scence just to check if the horse is also smiling. It was making eyes at you

      • I know the shot you're talking about, they really did her dirty with that. How it got past a whole team of producers on a billion dollar show blows my mind.

        • Do you think they secretly hate it as much as we do, and are trying to drive it into the ground? Thats the only way to explain the shot, the black elves, the gay relationships with the elves etc etc etc

  • +6

I didn't watch the first season, but it's good to know I can theoretically watch the second one in 30 days, but now with ads

    Good deal 👍🏻

  • I got prime for prime day, didn't like the series at all, and can't believe a 4 billion dollar company still needs ads!

    • -1

They don't. Please don't believe that Amazon needs additional income of any sorts for any reason

    • Prime Australia is ridiculously cheap considering what it comes included with.

      Amazon postage, including international postage
      prime deals
      Prime music
      Prime video 4k
      Twitch
      Prime books

$6.58/month ($79/year). Netflix with ads is 20% more than all that

A few bucks extra losses the ads.

      • +1

Prime music is limited as you can't choose what you listen to, it's always on shuffle of similar music, you have to pay for "prime music unlimited" for unlimited access.
Also now that they have introduced a ad free tier to Prime Video (which they are being sued because breach of contract) they also removed dolby atmos & dolby vision from the base subscription.
also it's now $9.99 per month or $12.98 ad free or $79 a year.

    • Well to be fair Jeff Bezos needs to go to space.

  • +2

going to go a little against the grain and say im excited. i didnt hate S1, but i had issues with it.
My main concern about this season (from the trailer) is Bombadil being grim and not jolly

    • +1

And Galadriel being a girl-boss warrior queen didn't bother you?

      • +1

"but i had issues with it"
try reading before getting angry next time

        • -1

Well to be fair you didn't exactly describe what those issues were.

And I don't get angry, especially over something as trivial as dumb TV shows, or even the desecration of Tolkien for that matter. I just find it all rather sad and pathetic TBH, I mean there must be talented writers and actors out there somewhere?

      • Didn't bother me. I'm always up for more elves doing elfy combat shit.

  • +3

Apparently after season one, Amazon gained the rights to Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast etc which they originally didn’t have.

They also have access to state that they came to Middle-Earth sometime during the Second Age.

  • +5

    Couldn't even finish season 1, surprised there's a season 2

  • +10

    Woke rubbish no deal!

    • +7

South American Elf, Sri Lankan Harfoot, Nigerian Dwarf etc etc they really did go all out.

Look in all honesty, I don't mind and care, what irked me, was the poor casting in general and QUALITY. Galadriel was a shocker in S1.

Adar was amazing but he quit after s1, new Adar looks … crap.

    • +4

Just so I have it straight - when "woke" people vote with their feet it's "cancel culture", but when you do it, it's not, because reasons?

      • +2

You don't have it straight. ("Not that there's anything wrong with that!")

      • No. Cancel culture is when wokies get people banned and/or prosecuted, if they simply kept their mouths shut and stopped watching there would be no issues.

        • +3

"if they simply kept their mouths shut and stopped watching there would be no issues"

          You're so close.

  • +1

This time comes with ads. Bargain!

  • +1

I very much enjoyed S1 after a rewatch, by simply skipping the Harfoot scenes, was recommended by a friend and it made the show immediately better.

It's sad that one of the best things from S1, Adar, will not be in S2 (i.e. he quit because he didn't like the writers).

    • +2

The writers are the core problem with this. Plot is disjointed, busy and characters are cardboard.

      • +1

        Same as the Witcher….

    • +1

If only there was a sticky at the top of the deal and every single deal like it showing how you could avoid being triggered by these deals in the future

      If only

    • +1

Have you been living under a rock?

Streaming shows and movies have been consistent for a couple years now.

Do you also not read? It takes 5 seconds to remove them from your feed.

      • +6

I think the difference is that this isn’t a saving or bargain, it’s the only way you can watch the show. Other sub deals may save you money by not buying or renting the movie.

      • You reply is so irrelevant.

The point I was trying to make is the inconsistency of mod's treatment about this kind of deal. People should just start making TV series announcements as a deal.

Streaming shows and movies have been consistent for a couple years now.

So what? You still have to pay to watch this series, why is this a deal? It's never out in the cinemas. Then, Can I post deadpool&wolverine movie as a deal too now?

    • +2

A mod for Fallout 4, which doesn't cost money and never will, got like 400 upvotes.

Free jpgs for your steam profile are classed as deals.

Free PC desktop wallpapers are deals.

This deal is absolutely on par.

      • +1

The swimming shown free on Channel 9 tonight is also on par

    • If only there was some prominent note from mods about these streaming posts.

  • +6

Not a deal as it comes with included adverts you might as well post commercial TV shows as deals as they include adverts also lol

  • +3

Whats going on here, this is not a deal. Streaming releases are not a deal unless they are being made free. Let alone 'free' would be too expensive for this show.

  • +1

I don't understand why this is posted and so highly up voted in "deals". It's just a TV show and if people start posting TV shows they like there are numerous more highly rated than this being released. Anyway hope people enjoy this "adaptation"

  • +3

How has it been two years already!?

  • +4

Watching this atrocity is not a deal if anything Amazon should offer 1 month free for existing subscribers to watch this.

  • +4

The ads will be better than this rubbish

  • +5

    Dr. Ian Malcolm
I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here: it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it, you want to sell it!

  • +4

Most disappointing series of an absolutely classic set of movies. I tried very hard with many episodes but was horrified how boring and slow and useless it was. Agree with comments above that it was terribly cast but the characters are just try hard and lame..

Mind boggling to me how they spent so much money on it and agree, why they're bothering with the season two?! they should have gone hard into the orcs and the scarier , evil stuff straight away!! Reminds me how good Game of Thrones and even House of the Dragon is…still yet to watch season 2 but looking forward even though S1 wasn't GoT, still very good

    • House of the Dragon S2 is a bit slow IMO it's started to get a bit more interesting over the last 2 episodes or so. Still better than this tripe and anything 'star wars' these days.

  • +4

The real deal here is being aware so you don't accidentally watch it.

    Cheers op!

  • 1st season was a real struggle, not enough violence and too much talking about nothing.

  • -5

Cue all the neckbeards that will complain about how it's not canon, it's poorly cast and that the wind is blowing the wrong way lol

Oh, and cue the downvotes into oblivion. XD

  • 30day free Prime from Prime Day.
The ads kept freezing my Apple TV so i gave up

  • +1

Not a deal or bargain. Didn't realise I'd come to the OzTvGuide page

  • WHy is this deal just an ad?

  • +1

Terrible first season, won't be bothering with the second one.

    • lol you actually watched it all

      • Hand to god, I'm a big LOTR fan I think I got to about episode 5 or 6 before pulling the pin. Not the worst show I've ever seen, like I'd prefer this over CSI: Miami, for instance. RoP was definitely better than that. I will probably watch a couple of episodes of the second season to see if anything has changed.
