What’s the cheapest hotel? Somewhere in India or Indonesia? Assume you have to actually stay or the points won’t be credited

    • +13

Found a hotel in Bali for $2 per night

      • +1

Wow, Australia do better, $23 for a cocktail

        • +3

you may find sleeping in the cocktail better than the $2 a night hotel.

        • Most Australians approve of the bad economic policies that leads to things costing so much in Australia, and then they complain about the costs.

    • +2

      What’s the cheapest hotel?

I've seen some hostels in South East Asia for under $5/night.

Assume you have to actually stay or the points won’t be credited

      That's my understanding.

      • So you have to stay to get the points? Dang it you have to stay.

        • Just send out a mass unsolicited email offering "FREE hotel stay in Bali"

      • +11

I've literally just put in the booking " Please process my stay even if I don't check in." and made it for tomorrow. $4 total

        Will advise back later.

        • What's the name of the hotel?

          • @jm888: some sort of Bali slum-hotel just search from lowest to highest. they vary based on the date

        • It won't work, they need to mark you checked in/out and with an ID

          • +2

@da1andonly: The hotel has nothing to do with Qantas. No one is marking anyone checked in or out.

A consolidator sends them an email stating so and so has booked, here is the duration of stay, and if they elect to be paid via a CC they send a virtual credit card number that can be billed for the amount do. It's called "channel collect".

If you no-show they just bill the same card for the full amount.

            • @meowsers: Read the conditions "Points will be credited within 6 weeks of hotel check-out" Are you going to check out? Or is it a no show?

              • +3

@da1andonly: It doesn't work like that. There is no positive feedback from a hotel to a consolidator/wholesaler that a person has checked out.

The most they can do is a no-show - but this is generally done to avoid being charged a commission if they are waiving the fee.

I doubt some hole in the wall in Bali is going to ask questions - most likely they will just take the money and move on.

I'm willing to bet the $3.80 cents I'll get the points.

The consolidator they use is Expedia who doesn't even let them report a no-show if it's expedia collect (meaning qantas/expedia takes your money and then pays the hotel). This is the hotel guidance from Expedia in re noshows.

You can cancel a reservation if the guest does not show up. Following rules apply:

Cannot be done before the reservation's check-in date.
Can be performed on Hotel Collect reservations for independently managed properties operating under the Hotel Collect or Expedia Traveller Preference business model. Not available for Expedia *Collect or Hotel Collect Group Reconciliation properties.
Check-in date must be the current date and/or in the past.
Can be reconciled from the check-in date until the fourth day of the month after the checkout date.
Fee cannot be more than the initial booking amount.

                • @meowsers: You gonna do it three times for 15k

                  • +2

@Mokr: I did, but I spaced out the booking 6 weeks later so I can see if I actually get the points, if they dont come through i will cancel the remainder.

                • +1

@meowsers: If they take your money that means you've checked in and by law they require you to show them your ID

                  • +1

@da1andonly: We shall find out in about 6 weeks or sooner…

Edit: someone more clever than I posted that the Qantas terms include no-show bookings for points earnings….

                    • @meowsers: @meowsers have you checked if your points have been credited yet? It’s past six weeks since, isn’t it?

        • Can book 2 more and take advantage of 15k points or you’re testing the waters with single booking?

        • I just booked something in India as well to not all swamp the same locations - will see how it goes. cost $5 though.

    • Hotel in Bali, $5. Flight to Bali, $600.

  • +1

Can you use PCP discount voucher and still get the points?

  • +1

Can I cancel a booking already made, then rebook it?

    • I have done this before.

    • depends on the cancellation policy for the booking. If non refundable, then don't, if fully refundable or you haven't paid yet and it can be cancelled without penalty, then yes

  • Can we book a hotel and not stay?

    • Points will be credited within 6 weeks of hotel check-out.

    • You have more dollars than sense.

    • +4

I'll try it anyway—15,000 points or, worst case scenario, I lose $12 for 3 nights.

  • Arrival instructions

Guest must provide one form of photo identification (drivers license, passport, age card, company ID, etc) for proof to match the genuity of guest(s) identification in relation to booking; and that the management will retain a copy of such ID. Failure to produce these items means cancellation of booking.

    Might email them about ozbargin.

    • +1

These bookings are fulfilled via a variety of consolidators and Qantas really has nothing to do with it.

As long as the time of the booking passes it should be okay. Cross your fingers.

  • Beware that Qantas and Expedia will kick you around if you are trying to get a tax invoice.

    • +2

You shouldn't really need a "tax invoice" as GST is not payable on overseas accomodation. A standard receipt print-out will be fine for ATO purposes.

  • Bali.. here I come

  • Anyone want to stay 3 nights in Bali at SPOT ON 92404 Pondok Ai hotel? It has a fan and a TV. Not a bad hotel. Let me know, and I'll book it for you.

    • +3

this pondok Ai is gonna get a tonne of bookings…

    • so you plan to deviate from your plan and purposely make a trip to the same accommodation 3 days in a row with your wife, just to check in and check out?

      • +1

Once they have ur details just tell them to merge and auto check U out since U won't take the key

  • +2

I keep getting 'sorry we could not complete your booking' error messages - anyone else?

    • +1

      same here, very annoying

    • Did you use Amex? I got the same message then tried with MasterCard and it gone through.

    • Me too. Not an Amex issue as I’m using Mastercard

    • Same here, and then I tried my Amex more than ten times and finally succeeded.

  • +4

3.7 Qantas Points will be earned on no show bookings provided that the QFF Member has paid for the booking in full and the booking has not been cancelled or refunded.

    • Yeh the problem is the hotel might cancel the booking in their system for a no show while still charging

      • If they cancel wouldn’t that send you an auto cancelled email?

  • I'll be in Bangkok from Thursday. There are a lot of super cheap hotels there. Anyone wanna book a hotel for me?

    • sure, would you stay in a dormitory? I'll cover the $6/night.

3x booking at pondok Ai. See you all there!!

    • +1

This is going to be a very empty hostel for the next few weeks

      • +3

We should do a deal with the owner and let them know to gift the rooms to their current guests, on behalf of their friends at OzBargainers.

3x bookings at SPOT ON 92404 Pondok Ai Bali also. If anyone wants to use them, PM me:
        5-6 August
        8-9 August
        10-11 August

      • Anyone else notice you can no longer book SPOT ON Pondok on Qantas Hotels any longer… no availability showing!
        https://www.qantas.com/hotels/properties/985483

And not just not taking bookings on Qantas Holidays, but ANY platform….
        https://www.booking.com/hotel/id/spot-on-92404-pondok-ai.en-…

Did they just get ozbargained and we crowd funded their full bank account so they could take the rest of the year off with a fully booked empty hotel?

  • +2

Okay gonna try this, 3x booking at HCMC in August
lol I'm just gonna check-in/check-out 3 times before heading back to my airbnb, luckily it's a short walk from there

  • Tried 3 cards visa\mc and keep getting "sorry unable to process payment"

    Why qantas why

  • Hello all. Anytime I want to use Qantas Hotel, when I go to the payment section, all the credit portion is greyed out.

I can't enter any credit carrd details as a result.

Anyone knows how to fix this? I have asked Qantas but they are as hopeless as ever.

    • Maybe the tick box terms is hidden by your ad blocker

  • None of mine cards working, do not know the reason.

  • +3

Wow with the comments above not surprised this will change or ‘be fixed’ 😂

    • This is why we can't have nice things…

  • Sounds like this might be Ozbargained

    • They should have thought about $4 hotels.

    • Doubt it, they just wont give you the points and there is no customer support at Qantas Hotels. Any arguing the T&C will be pointless.

      • Pointless. I see what you did there.

      • I think an Amex chargeback or complaint to the Airline Customer Advocate would sort it out either way. And would it be worth it? Yes, because Qantas would pay a chargeback fee on each transaction.

        • Charge back for what though? People are booking it without the intent on staying. That doesn’t qualify for a charge back.

          • +1

@financialminimalism: The general terms allow points bonuses even on no-shows.

Amex leans heavily in the cardmember's favour in any case. Also it's $3.80 so who really cares.

        • You are only screwing the hotel operator if you do a chargeback as you have booked the room and didn't stay. As others have mentioned, charge back is not valid anyway since you got the room you paid for. Not getting the bonus points has nothing to do with hotel as the term stated you get the points after check out.

          • @runamuck: American Express (and other card companies) consider the totality of the sale when reviewing chargebacks, promotional offers constitute services that if not fulfilled would be included in consideration that a consumer would undertake when choosing to (or not) purchase an item.

I don't think a chargeback will be necessary in this instance as Qantas will probably suck it up and give the points to those who booked, however I can tell you that our experience with Amex is they will usually side with the consumer if the argument is reasonable.

As always, you do what is best for you.

  • My booking seems to have gone through, payment showing on CC and receiving Qantas notification. Worse case scenario, wasted $3.71, earned 9 QANTAS points and potentially gain 5000 Qantas points.

    • Which hotel did you book?

      • SPOT ON 92404 Pondok Ai

        • Must be the dates I chose then, I put in all the details and when I clicked confirm payment, I got an error saying that the option doesn't exist anymore. Twice.

        • Sounds like a perfect place for an Ozbargain party :p

  • Made a booking for tomorrow and coming days. Lets see how it goes. The challenge is that I will find out the outcome after 6 weeks. Worst case scenario, it will be a $15 punt.

    • +1

Mine is an $11.88 punt. You must have booked in the high season ;-)

  • +1

For anyone who has booked, Did it show the 5000 bonus points in the points earned part before payment?
Eg. $100 room earns 5100 points
As my screen is only showing 300 points (3×100)
Fyi. I called qantas hotels and he confirmed the offer of 5000 points is current. And there is no minimum spend. I mentioned I can't see 5000 bonus points in the banner on the qantas homepage.

    • No. It will only show the calculation based upon 3X points and 5000 bonus is on top of that.

  • Ok. Thank you very much

  • +4

Looks like Qantas has updated their T&C's now.
^^You must be a Qantas Frequent Flyer member to earn and redeem points. Membership and points are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions. A minimum spend of AUD $100 applies per booking. There is a maximum of 3 bookings per member. Points will be credited within 6 weeks of hotel check-out. • +5

Must be the analyst at Qantas Hotel reporting a huge spike in bookings at Pondok Ai that has alerted his management.

      • +2

These new T&C's are effective for bookings made from 1st August. I wonder what they will do with the booking already done. I made 3 bookings at a hostel in Kathmandu ($3.43 each) and have screenshots of the original T&C's, so looks like it will be some discussion with their contact center :D

        • Could you upload a screenshot of the T&C's? I seem to have only copied the text.

          • +5

            @meowsers: Sure. I have uploaded here: https://ibb.co/sHcmHYv

            • +1

@ThePointsGuru: legend thanks! I think they will have to suck it up and apply the T&Cs from tomorrow and credit all of us for todays based on the no-show clause still getting points and no minimums.

Feels great to finally get one over on Qantas.

          • +1

@meowsers: With the new T&Cs taking effect for bookings made from 1st Aug, I am hoping the old T&Cs apply to any booking done till today.

    • Annnnnd there it is 😭

    • The email suggested that there were no minimum charges. They have changed the T&Cs in the middle of campaign. I guess they woke up to the reality. :p

Would they honour their email T&Cs?

  • Could you still make a booking now and get the points without the minimum spend? It says the new t&c’s apply from 12:01am tomorrow so as long as I made the booking before then I’d still get the points without the minimum spend correct?

    • +3

probably worth the try for a few dollars, can look at Mae Sot Commune and Camping for $1.27

  • Can I assume that using my $50 hotel voucher to pay for a room costing $104 will still qualify ?

    • I doubt it as you'd be paying $54. The regular points bonus are calculated based on the value after voucher

      • T&c says
Bookings made with Deposit Pay, or with Qantas Points will be eligible to earn bonus points.
        (So hopefully that helps me).
My booking showed points earned is 312 (3x104)

  • Not sure if this works. I'm staying in the same hotel for 3 nights (each night over $100), and make 3 separate bookings but ask the hotel directly to put bookings together. Can anyone shed light on this?
