FYI, according to the info via link, there is an open book short 30min exam at the end of th course.

    Also;
“Do I get a completion certificate if I complete the course?
Yes — provided you receive a pass mark (50% or over) for course assessment, which comprises the exam and any available participation marks.”

Not sure what the cert will do for you but its something to pad up the resume :)

      1 hour, 40 multiple choice.

Will the certificate enable to get a job promotion?

    • +4

Yeah you can then start to apply for NBN Co

      • And you graduated with a pass mark of 51%………………

Also a DevOps course here, which personally I find more interesting: https://itmasters.edu.au/short-courses/devops/

Any one know if it comes with a .edu email address?

    • -2

      For anything interesting? Lol

    • -1

      Nope.

      • .edu.au by any chance? asking for a friend.

        • Still nope. (If you do one of their Grad Certs you are officially a CSU student, but this is just a taster course and really only have to fork over your email address, not USI/TFN etc).

Tip for anyone joining: find out if the teaching staff/whoever curates the learning material has worked in the industry in the past 5 years.

Uni courses in Data/Tech can be hugely disconnected from real world realities when most teaching staff have never left a university campus - University teaching positions require a PHD. Very few who are competent in these fields fluff around doing PHDs till they are 30. e.g. you may learn about using data systems that the industry stopped using years ago.

This is the case even in postgraduate courses. Calibre of teaching team is critical.

While free, the cost can be the wasted time.

Uni courses in IT overall being hugely disconnected from real world realities is the norm unfortunately.

    • If you need to assess quality - there are plenty of these free IT Masters taster courses available to view on their YouTube page. You just don’t get access to the assessments or discussion posts without signing up (for free).

@Veronica Hales Just wondering, is this on-demand or do you have to view the webinars at the scheduled times?

    • +2

I'm clearly not Veronica 🙃, but I have completed a few of their courses, so from experience, the webinars are Live but they record them and they're available to view in your own time. I've had to do that a few times where I haven't been able to attend the webinar at the specified time.

I want to learn to do my own tax, where can i find a simple tax course?

    • You could try looking on the H&R Blockchain :)

Is this a Masters in IT? Why does it say IT Masters?

    • That's the name of the organisation. No, this free 4 week course is not a Masters in IT. Yes, there are several Masters degrees that you can do with them e.g. Master of Networking and System Admin (in conjunction with CSU).

      • -4

Oh, so it's like calling your fake leather company "Genuine Leather". Smart. Trick dumb people into think it's something better than it is. That's the kind of place I want to study.

"Oh, no, no, no, It's not an IT Masters course, I can see the confusion, this is our course. We're IT Masters, so It's an IT Masters course, not an IT Masters course. Total coincidence there, you'd think we could have thought of that when we chose our name, right? …….right?"

        • Technically you can do 3 of these free short taster courses and they'll knock off 1 industry elective from one of their several AQF 9 Master level courses on offer, all within the Information Technology field. It takes 12 units to complete their Master of Cyber Security, as an example. So if one wants to be pedantic, the short course in this deal does actually count as 2.8% of a TEQSA accredited Master in the IT field. The rest of the degree is nowhere as 'easy' (from personal experience in one of their Grad Certs) but this is their no obligation way of luring you in to commit to the remaining $42k debt for the full thing.
