Fetch Mini 4K Gen 5 HY4424 $96 Delivered @ Telstra (Telstra ID Required)

80

I noticed on the Telstra Website that Telstra is selling Fetch Mini Boxes for $96. I think it might be the new Fetch Mini 4K. Fetch Support confirmed that you can cancel the Fetch service with Telstra and link it to a retail account.

"Hi,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you have a Fetch box from Telstra and cancel your Telstra Fetch service, you can move your box to an account directly with Fetch (Retail Account).

All customer support will be managed by Fetch if you choose to do so.

The box warranty applies from the original date of purchase and will remain with Telstra. You can call Telstra on 13 22 00 to confirm your warranty period and cancel your Telstra Fetch service.

Unfortunately, you will not keep access to any channel pack or streaming service subscriptions which are part of your Telstra service.

Your movies and shows purchased under your cancelled Telstra account can not be transferred to Retail. Telstra Plus points are not accessible via Fetch retail accounts.

Let us know if you need any further clarification."

Edit: Telstra confirmed that the fetch mini is the Gen 5 (HY4424) aka the New Fetch Mini 4K.

Also a person on Whrlpool had success in linking the Telstra fetch box to their retail account. They had to contact Telstra for them to deactivate the box and then they had to do a soft reset.

soft reset instructions:

  • Unplug power cable for 10 seconds, then plug back in

  • When you see the "Preparing System Please Wait…" message, start pressing the coloured buttons on the remote (Red > Green > Yellow > Blue) one at a time, repeatedly, and at a regular pace

  • When the "Checking Internet Connection" message appears, keep pressing the buttons, until the lights on the front of the Fetch box turn off, and the “Preparing System Please Wait…” message appears. This confirms that the reset has been completed, and you can stop pressing the coloured buttons

Edit 2: In case anyone was wondering, I bought a Fetch Mini from Telstra for my mum. After a quick call to Telstra to get them to deactivate the box, I was able to activate it with my retail account. So the Telstra fetch boxes can be unlocked. We are able to multiroom with our retail mighty and everything is working like a retail box.

I may be misunderstanding the wording, but the fetch websites says you can't mix n match boxes between an ISP (Telstra) and a retail Box (JB Hi Fi etc):

No, Multiroom requires that all boxes come from the same sources, and are on the same account and network. It is not possible to mix boxes from ISPs or retailers together.

    • you may also interpret that as you cannot use a box actively linked to Telstra with a box linked to another provider. If the box is unlinked from Telstra, it is now a fetch associated box.

Hasn't something changed, as that is not how they used to work?
I remember having an Optus Fetch box and these could not be associated with Fetch directly as they were locked to iiNet accounts only (the MAC address was associated with Optus customers only, the same applied to iiNet-associated boxes).
It sounds like a very different situation with Telstra issued boxes.

        • Yes that's what I want to know too, as that was never allowed in the past. I have an unused Fetch mini 4K (Telstra branded) still in the box, and my parents have a retail fetch mighty - I’d love to be able to join them together for multi room, and I was told that’s not possible. Hopefully this means they’ve made it easier now?

i find these devices such an waste… if you cancel your plan with the telco… its bricked!

Fetch Support confirmed that the Telstra Boxes can be unlinked to Telstra and be used on a retail account.

      • im generalising on these devices

Fetch Support have been known to get things very wrong.

      • I've contacted Fetch support to ask them if this is actually possible (and not a mistake, as they've never allowed this before), and then I'll give it a try to confirm - my parents have a retail Mighty and I have a Telstra Mini 4k that I'd like to join together via multiroom

        • Am interested to hear how you go - is your Telstra Mini a Gen 5?

  • How does this go as an upgrade from Vodafone TV?

Do you want the Fetch TV streaming channels? Very similar apart from this. It's more of a "pay TV" service mixed with Freeview all in the one guide + entertainment apps.

For me, they seem such a step down.
You cant have Kayo and Foxtel Now, there is no auto power over HDMI.
      Very clunky.

      • +1

Kayo and Binge are available in the new firmware. They do support HDMI CEC.

        • Telstra sent me the mini 4k and it has none of these.
          I'm guessing I must have gen 4

    • I thought the same thing but it's not androidtv so hard pass.

One of the most exciting features of the Fetch TV Mini Gen 5 is its ability to access and run additional selected apps from the Google Play Store via an Android emulator

The UI is rubbish on these.. very slow to navigate. I’ve got a Telstra TV and that is way better than these

Yeah we used a Telstra TV, got a free fetch from Telstra haven't plugged it in and got a firestick on prime day and using that instead.

Is this definitely the 4K version? I cannot find any mention of 4K in the Telstra listing.

    • Yeah Cocochicken, can you please get back in touch with Telstra to confirm the model number of the Mini box.

  • a bit of topic. Do you know how to unlock a Fetch Mini. It's locked with internode before.

    • The unlocking is only for Telstra boxes. Boxes from other providers can’t be unlocked.

  • I believe this is more likely to be the old version and not the new gen 5. I tried to reach out to Telstra support as well but they couldn’t verify.

JB HiFi has the new gen 5 coming soon https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/fetch-mini-4k-g5

This will almost definitely be the Fetch Mini Gen 5, we have stopped selling the old boxes.

Telstra confirmed what celery juice said they are selling the Fetch mini 4k gen 5 (HY4424) and they have stopped selling the old ones.

Unconfirmed, but I would suggest that now Fetch are: …majority owned by Telstra, who acquired a 51.4% stake in the company [Fetch] on the 2nd of August 2022.

This is why they no longer care who your Fetch service is with… Telstra or Fetch Retail,… Same Same.

Had two Fetch Minis. Found them to be unreliable. Frequent restarts and lag in apps.
Our Fetch Mighty has no such problems.
