as a price comparison … $89 on The Good Guys website

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one to play around with.

    • Decided to cancel, one more unit back up for grabs again - purchased last night on a whim and after some thought didn't feel like stuffing around with any possible voltage issues.

  • Thx op got one

  • +3

That’s a great price for this camera. Got it at $118 and thought it was a deal.

This one seems to be us stock, I hope the voltage difference won’t be a problem.

    • You should be able to change it from 60hz to 50hz in the settings. Is that what you mean?

  • Can anyone confirm this will work fine here being US model?

Do these things work remotely? So I can check video from work etc?

    • +2

Yes, 24/7 access using your phone TP Link app. Can even retrieve recorded videos if your camera got the SD card installed. If you pay the subscription for the recording to be sent to the cloud, you can even look at motion activated recordings of a prolonged period anytime without the SD.

      • the main idea wold be to retrieve a daily video to check if someone stole something from my shop during some day I think they did. Does it skip to motion? so you don't waste time looking at the video?

        • +2

Yes, I've got a Tapo camera and it has highlighted motion detection in the playback

  • Tempted to buy it, but just wondering do we still need to buy any connector/extension towards the power source?

    • +1

According to their manual, the power cord is 3M long.

  • So need to install a power socket nearby

    • +2

Yes or you can buy a DC extension cable to connect to the power brick.

    • +1

Or use a poe switch with a splitter at the camera end that outputs 12v. This is the easiest i think.

If you can't wait, you can also buy it from CentreCom for slightly more for $62 (plus surcharges and delivery). Although their model is called TC40, if you look at the spec sheets, as part of its package contents, it lists "Tapo C500 Camera."

  • Thanks Op. Bought one. Really hope the power adaptor is suitable for Australia.

  • For comparison, $62 at Mwave for click and collect - https://www.mwave.com.au/product/tplink-tc40-tapo-outdoor-pa…

    • There is 2K version named TC41 available as well.

Can anyone recommend whether it's worthful to add $14 to upgrade to 2K?

      • +2

        Yes.

I've owned a few older Tapo C100's (full HD) and newer C210's (2k).

Video quality difference is definitely noticeable.
I personally wouldn't buy any more full HD cameras any more.

Depends on your use case and location/lighting as well I suppose.

Has anyone integrated one of these into Home Assistant successfully?

  • I have one of these in my yard where I want to install it, anyone know if it will be fine remaining plugged in to that?

    • Well that depends. Is that spot dry or fully exposed. The transformer bundled in is almost certainly going to not be weatherproof

      • Well that is frustrating. How will people run it to power if the cord and transformer isn’t weatherproof? Mine would be a moderately sheltered area (under an eave) but not entirely dry depending on wind and/or rain direction. It’s where my instant hot water thingy is too
