Got served this ad on FB, never been there but looking at the menu I think I need to go. With $10 off you could get what seems a decent meal, a mix of Korean classics and chicken, see https://www.gamichicken.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/GC… for the menu.

@linkindan I logged back in just to agree with your sentiment. Gami years ago before they franchised like crazy was a different experience. Today, it's extremely mid.
That said, appreciate OP's deal posting and for some they might appreciate it. If you're after recommendations, I'd avoid their boned chicken as it's typically more a fatty experience (see: the current sadness that is KFC original recipe).
What are your preferred Korean fried chicken restaurants? Nene chicken? Buza? etc.
Nene is NO NO for me, overpriced and very average quality. (me and my staff experience couple of times)
Honey Pocha was good but they changed to another restaurant
Wingboy isn't Korean chicken but is pretty good
Tried Buza in Melbourne Central and it was good - came with a Korean person and they rated it too.
@achyd1: Years ago I had Buza chicken in Queen st. Melbourne CBD with some Koreans and Japanese after midnight and it was full. I am in Sydney now. Good memory :)
Recommend Caveman1961 in Mount Waverley, they used to be Chickilia in Glen Waverley but the chef moved and started his own place.
So boneless is better?
What are your preferred Korean fried chicken restaurants?
I would recommend chicken V
I prefer compound V.
Chicken V changed their menu and not as good after that
Still ok though
Independent restaurants where possible, chains just cut corners
Can someone please reply to neoleo?
I too would like to know some favoured Korean fried chicken joints if gami is shit. I thought it was ok last time I was there but I wouldn’t mind something to compare it to besides Strathfield sports club.
I also thought it was ok when I went a few years ago.
It was good when they first opened. It's gone down hill since. I think it's been bad for at least the last 5 - 6 yrs.
It's not so much that it's bad now, it just doesn't hold a candle to when it first opened. Gami's was great when it was this dodgy korean chicken shop with dirty floors, plastic stools for chairs and the best damn chicken around. Now it's just too clean and commercial and the food just isn't as good.
how do you apply the discount?
If you're in store you scan a barcode linked to the Facebook post; if you're ordering online you use the code.
Theres no barcode in the facebook post.
Still cheaper to use Doordash with new account, new phone number (with 100% or almost 100% cashback) and different email to get 50% off your first 2 orders and pickup for me ;-)
Some codes from here:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/858123How do you get 100% cashback?
Usually there's Amaysim $24 or $22 cashback promo through cashback companies. Choose the $50 28 day sim with 120 GB (price $24). At the moment, cashback $22 from Cashrewards, Shopback, and TopCashback.
Is the gochujang sauce sweet chilli, or spicy ( or unlikely but red mayo).
Love boneless gochu
They should be paying us to eat their food
Ate there a few months ago, chicken was average, but what got me was they didn't know how to cook rice properly, after complaining about the rice the first time they send a new batch, was just as bad, didn't bother eating it. How can they not know how to cook rice being asian lol.
There's one near my office that's distinctly average. With a discount like this it may be worth a punt though.
It's not a great name for a restaurant either.
Will they allow liven payments with this deal?
So sad that the quality of Gami went down while prices went up as they went mad franchising.
I remember going a bunch of times to the King Street basement store in Melbourne back in 2016 with a group of friends. The place was always packed so considering the location it had to good. We got a few of boneless chickens and beer oaks (mini keg on the table) which was fantastic; and only $25 a head for a full feed with plenty of beer.
The boneless chicken was crispy, flavorful and loaded with sauce dripping off the plate just in case you needed more. The beer went down very easy along with it.Today it's a sorry affair, the King street location has closed down leaving only the subpar Lt. Lonsdale street spot. The last time I went to the Highpoint store a few years ago they the boneless chicken was served with a tiny pot of sauce on the side and you have to pay if you want enough to cover the chicken. And to add insult to injury they weren't selling oaks of beer anymore either.
I'm sure there are still Gami locations out there who do it well, but at this price point I just can't justify going back.
that king st store was the bomb and was bustling all night throughout the week - always a precarious walk down the stairs to exit!
that sounds like most restaurants post covid. Prices shot up, quality gone & portion sizes gone down.
Been there a few times, incredibly average
