Probably trying to take advantage of the energy rebate and also convince you they are treating you special

    • Or the upcoming wholesale prices are dirt cheap for the coming week.

I reckon cynicism is healthy, but I'll take the $25.50 anyway ;-)

Please share your address as I need to charge my EV

    • 🤣🤣🤣

  • +2

$5 a day for 5 days does it even cover supply charge

    • Yeah but, no but, OriginEnergy cares for me….

      • +1

        🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • "She" just mentioned that Origin probably only made the offer because we're in credit anyway (solar + storage).

In credit with Origin, that is. Definitely not in credit with the solar PV & battery.

    • Thanks for reminding me, I will cash that $1k from the QLD government out & chuck in the offset.

      • +2

I tried to cash-out my $1k from Origin and initially they sent out the generic "Pls provide screenshot of bank acct as proof of ownership for the credit refund". 10 days after providing this, they sent a follow up email saying "you can't cash out the 1k. its mean't for electricity". so I replied and said, in that case I'll close my account and swap providers. Which is what I did, eventually got my $1k and they lost a customer. A few days later the retention team tried giving me a call and I explained the situation. Really stupid on their part in my opinion. Reckon they're gonna lose quite a few customers, as Ive heard other elec companies are cashing it out no worries. Let me know how you go

        • I know my neoighbour got $500 cashout from Origin last year. The pig has a huge solar array and Tesla battery.

          • @Naigrabzo: My solar installation has been zeroing my electricity bill for many years, and I usually end up about $2k in credit over a 12 month period. Since getting an EV, the rate of accumulating credit has fallen off a little bit….but still expecting to cash out at least $1500 by the end of this year.

  • Thanks OP entered.

  • Same here, entered via OP’s link to see if I’m eligible too

Re "5 Days Free Electricity Usage Charges" as per T&C's
"The Credit will be applied to your electricity account approximately 45 days after opt-in, providing your account remains ACTIVE at that time. No Credits will be applied if your account has closed."

This is a way Origin are trying to retain customers as they hiked UP Electricity charges.

See my comment above about cynicism. :-)

  • Probably means you're not on the cheapest plan after your previous plan lapsed. Check what their best rates currently are. Just changed ours to Origin Go Variable.

Use the govt website to calculate your best deal, it's very simple. https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/

For electricity you'll need your meter NMI (it's on your bills) to get an accurate pricing based on your usage.

Last checked about a fortnight ago. Origin is the best deal I can get given my circumstances.

      • Once you've found the supplier, which plan is the question. The supply and usage costs vary. Given you're in credit then you might have a higher balance with another plan.

You'd have to ask energymadeeasy 1300 185 565 if they fit your exact situation but their "app" has tick boxes for solar tariff, controlled load, time of use etc. If their comparison doesnt work for you then a simple spreadsheet using your origin usage data and the supply/uage rates for each plan should work.

        • "The supply and usage costs vary"

That may be so, but in the comparisons I do regularly I see very little difference on the bottom line over a full year.

          • @Frederico Z: Sounds like you're on top of it, unlike the majority who set and forget, not realising that once a plan expires suppliers will put you on the most profitable plan for THEM. They do have to advise you of changes but many/most people are too busy to check and change every 12 months. Savings from the default plan I was on to the Go Variabe are 10% electricity and 22% gas, calculated (by me) on both supply and usage charges.

            • @Igaf: Not sure if I'm on top of it but I do start from a point of high distrust when it comes to the energy purveyors.

Interesting article on The Guardian today about governments and the harvest reaped by their privatisations - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/2…

              • +1

@Frederico Z: No doubt public service organisations need regular shake ups but the primary reasons for privatisation/public-private partnerships were (1) ideology and (2) getting debt off state/federal budget bottom lines. The latter appeals to a particular cabal of journalists who either ignorantly or intentionally hammer home the public debt bogey prior to every election, even during the years of unprecedented low interest rates when borrowing for the future (infrastructure etc) should have been a no-brainer for any government.

    • Just on the recommendations that we should regularly check with https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/ I should point out that it seems highly inaccurate for those of us with solar PV & storage.

As mentioned, our account is in credit and substantially so. Typically the summer, spring & autumn cycles offset our winter bills.

Yet when I check our NMI on the governments comparison site I am quoted as having an annual usage costed at around $1,750.00 P.A.

How are we meant to use that sort of comparison with the actuals?

    • Ask for the hardship plan if you hand concession and it’s quite a bit less.

  • +1

I have not received direct communication about it, but I've still managed to be picked by the Higher Powers at Origin.

Impressive! Enjoy the largesse the cartel has bestowed on you :-D

Ditto. Web response after getting my details:

"You’re now part of Energy on the House
We’ve got your details and we’ll contact you about next steps by 1st August 2024"

  • Feed-in tariff until daily 14kWh export limit is reached, incl GST where applicable

  • Not sure if this applies to Winconnect customers also but I have put it in to see if it works

    • On the embedded network, nope, it won't work, unfortunately. The joys of us having no choice of provider huh? Glad that has been made illegal on new builds now.

  • Will up the price on your next bill

Used the link above and got a reply "Thank you for redirecting your solar credits to Kamala Harris's campaign"…?

These guys are crooks I wouldn’t trust their marketing offers been burned recently with them

    • "These guys are crooks"

Well, some say it is a cartel, after all…

  • +2

I received this one too and I am on their cheapest plan and their prices have recently gone down a little.

  • Can you freeze electricity? Good to get and store it in bulk? Take advtange of this somehow.

  • +1

    No email, clicked Deal link.
    Worth a try.
"You’re now part of Energy on the House
We’ve got your details and we’ll contact you about next steps by 1st August 2024"

But total of $25.50 is a pittance.
    Collected $1275 credit this month💰
    ($1000 + $75 government rebates + $200 for signing up)
    Just chatted about adding solar.

  • -2

you must be using quite a chunk of electricity there. The highest we've used in a day is around $3.50 (including supply charge).

    • You must be just running a fridge then.

  • Capped at $5.10? I used that from Midnight to 7am.

  • OP, do you have Solar? I wasn’t targeted, and I am guessing if this has anything to do with having Solar or not?
