    Solar Meter Charge 8.53 ¢/day
    5.00 c/kWh solar feed-in tariff

well they can stick that where the panels won't generate

    • +1

      WTF.

      Ram that

    • +1

I've just been looking for a new energy offer & found origin not great when I compared with others & im with origin for the last 2 years now my contract is up im hunting for a better deal & found Ovo & dodo on my list I also have solar input .

      • Exact same boat. After doing my sums, I ended up going with Energy Australia today. Splitting hairs a bit at the end, but they were slightly better for me.

    • +2

I don't see a solar meter charge anywhere obvious when I enter my address (NSW).
Is it state specific or am I not looking in the right place?

      • +2

        Yeah it's a Qld thing

  • screw origin. I very recently just left them because my electric bill was so high compared to others with similar usage.

if anyone has brains you would know not to go with them.

    • +3

Of course people only have “one” brain so wouldn’t be bothered.

    • Care to share where did u move to?

  • +4

A $200 credit is simply there to veil their overly inflated prices and bait people in. "Come to the dark side, we've got cookies!"

And that $200 carrot won't be given to you for 6 months, while the stick will start beating your wallet into submission from the moment you sign up.

  • How is new customer defined? I switched from them to AGL for the $125 credit. If I switch back am I new? Guessing yes.

    • I’m in same situation as well, so if anyone can confirm that pls

      • It basically says new customers who sign up… That's my interpretation and so I should be eligible for the $200 credit. I'll switch in a quarter, after I get my first AGL bill with the credit. Assuming this offer is still around.

        • Word to the wise: using your most recent bill, run a bill comparison of Origin rates over 6 months versus AGL and make sure Origin comes out on top (taking out the $200 credit from the 6 month Origin total). I've run the numbers for myself and Origin doesn't even come close. YMMV of course, but you don't want to be locking yourself in for 6-7 months just to chase a $200 credit if your comparison puts AGL in front overall.

    • +4

It should work. I got $150 on 6 Jul 2023 and then moved to a couple of other places then back to Origin Dec 2023 and got another $150 last month.

They seem to give a new account number each time you move there. Although you can see your previous account number and bills during that time at the bottom of the my account section.

      • +2

They seem to give a new account number each time you move there

        Good way to calculate churn

  • +4

    solar meter charge LOL

  • At least if you're in the ACT you can get an 18c FIT for your solar - it's one of ACTEW's hidden plans. See: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/799976 and https://www.reddit.com/r/canberra/comments/12d7oo2/comment/j….

I switched onto the 18c FIT only a few weeks ago. No $100 credit any more, but with 22kw of solar on the roof after getting a second system put on, the FIT makes payback a little over 3 years even with no self consumption.

  • is it a different plan to the $150 credit offer that ended yesterday?

  • Best to wait closer to the 1/7 before signing up I would say?

    • Why?

      • Otherwise it won't be free??
I joined last week for $150 credit and minimum stay is 1st March only… So I can swap again as soon as I used $150

      • So your not stuck with high rates for 4 months eating into your promo.

        • +1

Indeed assuming you are on lower rates compared to these promo rates - in my case they are lower than my current rates but of course you need to do your maths based on your personal situation.
Do keep in mind if you wait too long they may pull the plug on the promo although the previous period promo ($150 credit) was available until late February for a March 1st credit.

          • @bauser99: And also signing up now prevents me from sharing my business and love with all other wonderful providers 😀

  • last time i signed up, the rates i got lasted one month before a 30% raise the very next month /shrug

    • +4

I believe rates change on July 1st in every State & Territory… anyway the Origin contract doesn't lock you in for a fixed period of time, so comes July 1st if the rates change is not favourable, you can pocket the $200 bonus and churn elsewhere.

  • Has anyone got their $150 from the last promo (join and stay beyond 1 Mar 2024) yet?

    • Not yet! I called them and was told they are “slowly” processing the $150 credits and it will show up in my account “soon”

      • Just wondering if you've got it yet?

        • Nope 👎

          • +1

@bauser99: Neither; haven't received it either. Poor form from Origin.

            • @SSJX: Can you call them and report back?

              • @bauser99: Any resolution on this? I still have not received the 150.

                • @dubcmj: I got my bill (bill period ended April 30) and the $150 credit wasn't there, so I called Origin, explained the situation and they applied it manually.

                  • @bauser99: Thanks. I've emailed a couple times without success. Might have to call.

                    • @dubcmj: Finally got it on 6/5 after complaining having received an overdue bill when they had said the account was on hold while they were sorting the credit out. It's a wonder why it took almost 2+ months and 19 emails back and forth!

    • Was applied on 1 March for me

      • Were you a new customer?

        • No. I was with them 2 month before.
          Got both the $150 credits

  • Thanks for this post.
I was looking for a better deal for my energy plan and came across this deal recently, the $200 credit is definitely a big incentive.
I didn't realise that there's also a 5% off from the standard Go Variable when signing up via this link!
After calculating it manually, it actually turns out to be cheaper than the lowest price plan estimate from energymadeeasy website, so I'm definitely going to give this a go.

  • this is what I'm seeing :

    Daily Supply
    94.919 c/day

    General Usage
    24.035 c/kWh

I signed up through this link but rates don't seem to match.

Also are there peak and off peak charges?

  • It doesn't seem to say how long you need to be on the plan for to get the credit except for stay until 1 July?

So can I sign up anytime before 1 July and get the $200 credit (say sign up in Jun 2024)?

    • +1

Yes that's correct. They might terminate the offer a few weeks prior to 1st July though

  • Does anyone know if it’s possible to interchange account holder details when switching provider so that the new person becomes a nee customer?

    • +1

Yes, should be fine if you use your partners name

  • +1

This is getting more attractive the closer we get to 1 July.
I may sign up in mid May

  • Is it one $200 credit (paid after 1 July), or is there also a second $200 credit upon sign up?
The post is a bit confusing, and I can only see reference to a single post-1 July credit on the Origin link

    • They just changed the wording when you sign up…

Score $200 electricity credit (inc GST) when you sign up online by 30 June 2024. Credit applied if plan still active on 30 June 24 and you have not received a credit in the previous 12 months. Not redeemable for cash. Excl VIC and ACT.*

  • so if we sign up and stay after 1 July we get $400 in total?

  • Anyone know when this deal ends?

  • anyone know what origin's rates are 1 july 2024 onwards? EOFY is 5 days away and no one has their post 30/6 rates published!

    • I'm in SEQ on friends & family plan and I received a new pricing notification on 13/6 to be effective on 1/7

General Usage goes up 1.9c, CL2 Usage goes down 1.9c, solar feed in goes down 1c, daily supply goes up 4.5c

I believe prices outside QLD will go down in other States comes July

  • +1

I called Origin today and the $200 hadn't yet been applied but the operator applied it to my account, and then switched my plan to Solar Boost. Thanks to this and Gov rebate I'm $1350 in credit :) Don't think I'll be paying for power for awhile.

    • Is this the first time you get a credit from Origin?

I already received $150 earlier in the year but then signed up again for the $200 credit - when I signed up there was no mention of "new customers" but later on they amended the wording to spell out the $200 credit will be applied if you had no previous credits from Origin in the previous 12 months period…

      • +1

I just checked and I had a $150 credit applied to my account on 31st Jan this year. I have moved house in the meantime so technically on a new account

        • Awesome - did you call the 1300 number on your invoice?

  • Where does this $200 credit show up, is it on the next bill generated 'after' July 1st?

    • +1

Yea, I can see my 'Account Balance' in the mobile app which includes Govt rebates and increased by $200 after my call where operator manually applied to my account

      • Cool, yeah I can see a huge credit in there for some reason, but no info on what its for, it probably gets detailed on the next bill.

        • +3

          I'm in QLD and I see a $1075 credit - I think that's $1000 from QLD government and $75 for Commonwealth (1/4 of $300) so I'll chase the missing $200 credit from Origin :)

          • @bauser99: Same $1000 + $75 but no $200 for signing up on 28/6!
Had rung & checked am eligible.
            Will contact Origin.

        • +1

Finally gave them a call, essentially there is $1275 in credits ($1000+$200+$75), and my account shows about $1000ish in credit because they are just taking the bills out of that money.. it should last a while.

He said the actual credit values/descriptions are there on the next bill, its just that you cant see that detail via the myaccount site…

    • Checked Origin app…
$200 credit now added without contacting them.
      Now shows $1275 credit💰

  • Mine says $200 account balance CR on the iOS app. Sweet. Only signed up about a week ago.

    • is it too late to sign up?

      • Plan must still be active on 30 June 24

        • Thanks

  • what if you sign up June 25th but they couldn't come out and do a meter read until July 2? (moving place)

    no bueno?
