Hoka Clifton 9 $129.99 + $15 Delivery ($0 C&C/ $160 Order) @ Hype DC

440

Best price I have seen on this popular every day neutral running/walking shoe. Not much in the cashback department but stellar price. Only in the white colour though.

From the hoka site:

The Rundown
Light and plush for everyday miles

The ninth iteration of our award-winning Clifton franchise has launched, lighter and more cushioned than ever before. Eliminating weight while adding 3mm in stack height, the new Clifton 9 delivers a revitalized underfoot experience with a responsive new foam and improved outsole design. Removing overlays and hotmelts, the stripped back upper has been consciously crafted with a plusher heel, reflective heel panel, and streamlined tongue with single side medial gusset.

    Great shoe for the money.

Boo - not the wide variant :(

    • How can you tell? I have the size 10 with 2E width and wouldn't mind another pair.

One of my favourite bargain shoe stores - Walked into the DC Hype outlet store in SA and picked up a pair of Merrell Moab Speed (gore-tex) for $30 bucks in size 9.5!

    • Awesome price

      • +1

yeah, my bargain of the year, I think

    • Agreed. They have had some amazing deals.

  • Only one colour at that price?

    • Looks like only one colour. I wanted the black colour but they are not reduced

      • Nimbus Cloud / Steel Wool in person is pure white no grey tones like in photos

  • +3

looks wobbly and dizzy to me.

  • Was always gonna try pair of Hokas until i found out they're owned by Deckers.

    • +1

      what's wrong with Deckers?

      • Read up on Deckers and small Aussie manufacturers of Ugg boots that used the name ugg for their products.

When we use 🤣 just means at some stage we either got it for free or dirt cheap

          • @easternculture: i c.

Those comments aren't helping anyone though, esp when people just echo it 10x over.

    • +1

      Absolutely nothing comparing to 1080v13!

    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • I've read that Hoka shoes wear out super fast for runners compare to other brands. Can someone chime onto this?

    • Will come back with feed back but I'm no ultra marathoner

    • Can confirm that they wear out faster than my Brooks but I find myself looking to go back to Hoka (Bondi 8s) as they're easier on my knees and shaved about 5-10 sec per km off my 1/2 marathon pace. So yes, even though they wear faster, in my experience I've found it worth it.

    • +1

Not in my experience. My current Cliftons are about to be retired after admit 650k. I'm about 85kg.

    • I usually get 500-550km out of mine before I send them to Rebel's recycling bins. I've worn Hokas (many models) almost exclusively over the last seven years and the Cliftons have been a fine middle ground between longevity and performance. Male, about 80kg, running 50-70km per week.

    • I've got a pair of Hoka Mach 4 that I've run 545km in and they feel dead. I'm about to retire them as soon as my new running shoes arrive (Puma Deviate Nitro 2). I've also got a pair of Saucony Ride 15 with 620km and they're still going strong. I'm about 70kg.

I picked up a pair of Clifton 9's in black from Amazon last week for $130, but I didn't like the feel of them so sent them back.

    • My clifton 8s wore out on the heel within 6months of wear to the point I was doing to the plastic piece that molds the shoe. But super comfortable.

    • I got 1000km out of my Clifton 8, mixed running and walking.

No wide (2E) variants in stock? I own speedgoats for trail and Bondi for everyday and was looking for a pair of Clifton’s

    • Wide variants are hardly ever on sale… Sucks because I need wide ones

  • +1

These were similar price like a month ago, too white for exercising. Would become very filthy dirty so bought challenger in black + extra grip is nice

  • Not sure if anyone has worn On shoes before but once you buy a pair, everything else becomes obsolete.

    • I’ve seen many reviews but never tried them. They generally haven’t been overly positive reviews from long distance runners especially with their older shoes.

  • perfect as i've just joined a run club, first meeting next week

    • +1

These aren’t perfect for running for most people. Unless they have made version 9 less soft and squishy because that’s what happens to my toes on runs over 5km. Many blisters later I only used these for short recovery runs and then retired them to be daily walking shoes only.

      • Using a foot lube / foot balm (or both) is a complete game changer for chafing.

Theres solutions to nips and feet you just need to spend a cents per use.

My feet also felt so soft and non beat up immediately after i started using that for both racquet sports and running.

A trislide aerosol is the most expense solution, and supplement with a far cheaper foot cream, each last for 100++ sessions

        • I’ve got all sorts of lubes that I use for marathons.

But these shoes are just soft squishy and not great for running. They don’t offer much structurally and while they absorb impact they provide very little rebound. There are much better shoes designed for long distance running that feel just as soft but offer so much more.

    Hoka Tuah!

  • I do like the Hoka brand but they do not last as long as others. As for running, I have a cheaper pair running shoes that works a lot better. With the Hoka I get shin splints. But it does make you a little taller haha.

  • This shoe just didn’t suit my foot unfortunately!
I really wanted to like them but something just felt a little off with the sizing.
Usually a US10 and possible needed a half size bigger in these.

  • +2

These shoes are awesome! Very comfy!

  • +1

You really need to try on hokas. I bought my regular size but should have bought half a size bigger. I bought the wides but they were not wide enough at all. So if you have wide feet, beware. I ended up giving the ones I bought away.
