  • FYI you can get 168w USB stations on Ali for this price.

How safe are these cheaper Ali chargers? Pretty much the same as Zyron?

  • Tempted - are these any good?

Have a Dell laptop that can take usb C or a barrel jack. Currently using a 45w Samsung charger which works but is slow.

    • +1

I've one, and that works with my Lenovo Carbon work laptop if that helps..

      • +1

Yeah it does! Ended up going with the genuine Dell 65w since they're only $30ish and I have about four laptops that need chargers.

    • +2

Works with my work HP Omen laptop which requires min 100w.

don't they say u should match the speed on thr adaptor and low charging it slowly is badddd practice ?

    • Works well with both my work and personal HP laptops

  • Can anyone recommend any alternatives. Want to see what my options are but there seems to be alot out there and dont know which one is good.

I’ve posted this a few times but I want to spread awareness since you only get one chance from a company before the trust is broken.

I’ve been using my SlimQ 150W one since my last Zyron one lit up on fire which I got on dog cam and caused them to temporarily stop sales of the 140W. Funny enough they asked me to send it back so they could inspect it but then it got mailed back to me a few weeks later and it didn’t really look like they even inspected it…

The SlimQ one has been really good and actually charges my Lenovo Yoga. The only gripe I have with it is that the AU cord attachment feels really cheap (shiny plastic) so I just stick to using the attachment that mounts the charger on the wall outlet. It can be a little finicky to change the adapters for other countries since it’s really stiff but overall it’s been great.

I wanted to get UGREEN but they don’t do the nice portable nexode pro in Australia.

      • +1

SlimQ is best because it doesn't need to renegotiate (cut power) when you plug something else in. That said, I haven't had any issues with my 2 Zyron products yet.

        • So do the ports share a max power or is the total wattage based off just sum of each port?

        • Any feedback on SlimQ vs Anker?

      • I can't find any information about Australian safety certifications for the SlimQ - are they not certified here?

      • Sorry to hear about your experience @phokingwhy

This comment a few months ago from a Zyron rep is informative:

@anonym: All the comments that you have mentioned above are related to our old models and cables. That's the reason we stopped those models. The new 140W that had the incident reported has also been discontinued going forward. A few units left are tested inhouse before dispatch. While other brands continue to sell units even after reported incidents, we don't do that.

To mitigate these issues we now work with a reputed factory that manufactures for Satechi, Anker, Belkin, ALogic. That's where our new Powaforce(zyrontech.com.au) models come from and slowly all models will be discontinued and we will work exclusively with this reliable factory.

        • They directly mention the issues with the 140w charger that you mention (which they discontinued permanently)
          • The remaining inventory of the 140w charger were carefully tested in-house before dispatch
        • They say that the manufacturers of the Zyron "powaforce" range are the same manufacturers as Satechi, Anker and Belkin
        • They state that Zyron will be working exclusively with this manufacturer in the future.

@SmoothCactus a.k.a. unofficial OzB power-charging expert, has tested and recommended the Zyron 65w Powastone (i.e. the 65w variant of this charger) :

[…] a great charger. I've tested these and they perform very well in everything you'd want and it's also a local brand so you're supporting Aussie businesses.

    • Someone made a comment about Zyron in a post from a different brand. I ordered Zyron in Amazon since it's cheaper and usb c cable included. I can say I love it. I tried almost all the brand. Cygnett is my first choice

I got an asometech 260w charger off ali for 60 to 70. On sale its regularly arouns 60.
Really good. Has a 140w pd 3.1 a 100w pd 3, 15 wireless charging. Other brands also sell same product as well with sifferent brand on top. Had it for a few months now and its good, 2nd asometech product

    • +1

FWIW I'd pick the Ugreen ones from Amazon, or the Essager/Toocki/Baseus ones from ALiEx.

    • I spent the money on a Belkin. I've had a major house fire in my life before, I don't need another.

      • Sorry to hear about your house fire. Just curious, did they find the cause of that fire?

  • +3

I'm happy with the ones I've got from them.

Hot tip, if you are traveling the best solution is the extension cable that comes with their travel charges. You know how the plane power points are not strong enough to hold power bricks. These cables fix that problem.

    • If travelling I recommend the lencent 20W. Has 1xA/1xC ports, weighs very little, fits in a pocket and best of all is also a travel adaptor for pretty much all countries. It charges my MBP M3 overnight and can add charge while in minimal use. Yes a 30W or 60W with another port would be better but the current brick size and weight is too big of a tradeoff not too mention a travel adaptor. I indefinitely travel with a phone, laptop and switch and have no issues. $20 is nice too

  • I have an older model of this. Very happy with it. I use it everyday at work. I would recommend this to anyone.

  • +1

We've been very impressed with the Zyron we picked up from a previous deal (which included the travel adapters).

Unusually well thought out with a high attention to detail in a lot of aspects, and we found the hard travel case to be really good quality.

While its more expensive by a fair bit, I picked up the Satechi 145w GaN charger for $135 during the Amazon prime day sale (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0CRD4NHY9/ref=ppx_od_d…) and have no regrets. The build quality is excellent, it looks pretty nice and doesn't seem to get hot even under full load. Size/Weight wise, its really not that much bigger/heavier than other 100-120W GaN chargers and the AU plug is actually the right way around (bugs me when they have it upside down).

I was using a 120w Zyron charger previously, and while it was fine, I wanted something that I could have one port always providing 100w with another 2 things plugged in i.e. Laptop + Phone + Watch. With the Zyron, this would reduce the laptop to max 65w charging, where the Satechi stays at 100w and then 25W + 20W for the other 2 ports. The Satechi can also do single port charging at 140w if nothing else is plugged in, which is handy if you have a laptop that can take that much for a fast charge i.e. MacBook Pro 16 inch via the apple USB-C MagSafe cable.

Admittedly, you could just buy 3 of the Zyron chargers for the same total price!
