  • Seems like a decent deal for the just recently released camera plus solar if what you need is a wifi security camera… nice those solar panels are worth about $40 on their own?.. so you would only be paying around $160 for the cam effectively.. cool

For anyone thinking about this, always remember the solar focused cameras are geared towards power saving. They will often have much slower alert reaction times & will have a tendency to enter a low power state making connecting to them take time. Some with a poor connection may occasionally fail to send alerts entirely if they wake up & cant immediately connect. It may seem minor but it can really get frustrating in the day to day.

You get these if you definitely need a solar powered camera. If you can find anywhere that can get reliable power, go with one of the regular cameras instead.

My experience with Reolink camera quality/longevity hasn't been good.
2 x Argus 2E dead (within approx 2.5yrs or less)
1 x Argus 2E mostly dead (within approx 2.5yrs or less)
1 x Lumus dead spotlight LED (within approx 3yrs)

I did just buy two DUO POE 2 cameras and a doorbell wifi camera. Let's see how they go.

BTW warranty support sucks - they want you to jump through so many hoops to prove it's faulty and then send it back at your own cost. I couldn't be bothered.

    • Yeah this is what I'm worried about, considering trying Reolink, but from the reviews I've seen people are having issues with the cameras just randomly stopped working after x amount of time. Also bit daunting to see they've got like 20 different cameras for each category, don't even know which one to get.

To add to this, I'm now reading about how terrible their android app is, and apparently every once in a while with a new app update, the notifications gets disabled automatically… This has been going on for a year at least, christ.

On the contrary i have used their poe cameras and absolutely love them. Total of 8 units over the years from ptz to fixed lens and the oldest model has not failed me, yet. It had been retired, replaced with a newish model put back into service again in a new location. Cant say for sure on the wireless one but ill say theyre subjective given you need to consider wifi dropouts and coverage and these are battery powered. Their app on iphone has been great and the nvr has been going with no issues. Webviewer works great for me too. But just to note NONE of my experiences are the wireless guys.

        • Hoping I have a better run with their proper non battery cameras. They are fully featured and have great Home Assistant support which is why I stuck with the brand. But after bad experiences with battery cameras in general, my advice is to only buy powered cameras even if it limits your choice of placement.
