one of the best thing I ever bought!

  • Im sure I’ll use the other features later, but for now I’m looking for something that can steam veggies. Has anyone here used it for that and how did it go?

Also, is it worth spending $30 more for the duo plus model?

    • It steams veggies. However, it does it under pressure, so you'll need to adjust all your timings of your using the "steam" function. If you want to use it like a pot with a steamer basket, use "saute" mode on high, throw in enough water, throw in your steamer basket once water is boiling (it doesn't come with a steamer basket, just a steamer rack), and… Steam your veggies.

The steam function requires the lid on and sealed for some reason, which then steams your veggies once the pressure has built up - 8 minutes or so with minimum water. Then the timer starts. So… 8 minutes plus steaming time, and you might have some overcooked veggies.

The other functions are basically just presets of high or low pressure cooking with preconfigured time, and essentially useless. Just throw in your stuff, set your time, and there you have it.

Just to be clear, I love it, and use it everyday for boiling eggs, making steamed Chinese eggs, soups, stews, rice (once you know what you're doing!) and cooking large chunks of meat WAY faster than in a pot on the stove.

If you're just looking to steam veg, maybe just use a pot and steamer basket on a stove?

      • Is there a recipe online that you could link to making the steamed eggs in a pressure cooker if you wouldn't mind? Do you do yours with ground pork?

        • +1

I didn't try with pork, but one day I will.

You can try this one - https://www.pressurecookrecipes.com/steamed-eggs-savory-egg-… - has the 1:1 egg:water/stock ratio, or adjusted for 1:2 ratio too. Have a shot!

Just remember to sieve your mixture into your bowl, and make sure you cover your bowl with aluminium foil.

You'll need to play around a bit, but after that - wow, it's easy!

      • Thanks for the detailed response. I ended up getting the duo plus model. After watching YouTube reviews I was impressed with all the different methods and recipes you could create.
I’ll hopefully use it for more than just steaming veggies now.

Pressure cooker stuff generally doesn't taste quite as good as other methods as it doesn't lose water, and therefore the flavour never concentrates, but it's something you'll learn to compensate for as you play around with it.

I will cook things like ribs in the instant pot, then finish them under the grill or in the air fryer to get them a little crispy and browned.

Here is a good collection of recipes that range from simple (one pot) to extreme (many steps) that help you use the pressure cooker's strengths (and not its weaknesses) - https://www.seriouseats.com/pressure-cooker-recipes-5117325

Got this and it's a thing of beauty.

Use it for rice, pressure cooking beans and stews, and yogurt. Best thing about yogurt - it pasteurises the milk as well.

The only regret I have is not getting the bigger one.

Also it's perfect if you don't want to risk it w PFAS - stainless steel pot removes that issue altogether.

I went with the 3L version, it'll do 1.9L of yoghurt which seems like a lot (for me) already. props to home made yoghurt!!

Something about being able to make HUGE amounts of staple foods gives me an odd comfort!

    Hmm. According to Cameliser: https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0B7MNC2CP

Best price was $79.50, and it's never been more than $150 (despite the "RRP: $215" Amazon claims); it's been on perpetual sale. Hell, the RRP of the base model is higher than the Plus ($215 vs $149)

For the Plus, at $135, that's a good price, though it doesn't fluctuate much. For an extra $15, you get $10 off with zippay, so that's something.

    • It was $163 a day before prime day. Camel cubed isn't always accurate.

I checked and bought it yesterday morning. The deal was posted within the instant pot air fryer deal, but sold out.

You can get $20 off as a new prime user (free trial or $10 to join for one month). I did that and ended up paying $83.

  • Wife uses this all the time. Bought it at Costco for about ~$130. This is a good deal

  • Most households in the US have one of these. A must for your kitchen.

I worked in an Amazon warehouse in the US 10 or so years ago, right before prime day, the warehouse (~1m square feet) was basically full of these things. For good reason, they are fantastic little machines.
