The argument will be for bench space - plus not everyone is going to want to deep dive into the hobby and upgrade (it is a slipppery slope though).
I do think the auto tamp is a waste personally, get a calibrated tamper and does the same thing.
Bambino + Mignon would have a similar footprint
Maybe, however the practical use of this machine is unbeatable. Zero coffee dirt, zero tamper process, just smooth and quickly. I have this machine and it is just a breeze to use it.
Just another thing that can break. Your arms work fine as a tamper. Crazy!
You may think that everyone has the same space that you have. My machine is in a small shelf away from the kitchen without access to a place where I can I support the tamper.
@Dienk: You have literally no horizontal space where you can apply a light amount of pressure (you don't have to tamp the life out of it, light pressure to even the bed is all you need)?
Where do you buy your beans from?
@iMagoo: I have this machine, and the built in tamp is an excellent feature. The main reason I went with this over separate components and manual tamp is that I'm not the only one using it and the other people in the household who want to make coffees don’t want the 'barista' experience - they just want good coffee. This thing does both.
Grinders look good, which one for a newbie?
Go a Eureka Mignon or Baratza Sette 270 (note, loud!), they're reliable, reputable brands. The DF54 is a bit more of a tinkerers grinder.

(I'm assuming you're after an espresso grinder with this response)
I think the all-in-one unit is just a bit easier and less messy, also only uses one powerpoint on kitchen bench .
Powerboards are sub-$10…
I personally don't want a powerboard sitting on my kitchen bench, but each to their own.
This machine has its place, for those that don't want to learn and just want a cup of coffee easily, this is a good machine. The integrated tamper doesn't just tamp, it measures the head space and adjusts the dose automatically. Friend had one and he loved it, very easy for beginners to use.
Head space means nothing if the grind size is out. Weight is the only way to do it. Drink the koolaid though 🤷
Headspace matters after grind size, the beauty of the impress is that it takes care of the dose so you only need to worry about grind size.
In reality the correct dose should go by headspace (which is why Breville includes their razor tool) but since that is hard to measure due to different bean density we have settled on weight, you try dosing 20g dark roast and light roast into a basket and see how much they differ.@ozlurker: Ahhhh, yeah I'm out. Enjoy your coffee.
This is the price of a barista Pro when on sale 🤔
Barista Pro.
Baratza burrs, 30 grind settings, thermjet tech, better steam wand.
How many holes/ jets does the water come out of on the Barista Pro (underneath the shower screen)?
Barista Express comes out of a single point, so more prone to channeling, so you need to make your grind more coarse to compromise.
Was cheaper a few weeks ago as well

I have this machine and am very happy with it.
Me too. It's great
Cashback is ineligible on the following:
Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.
I got my tracked and approved instantly =(
"approved instantly" ?
Interesting given:
Purchase Today
Tracked in 1 to 7 Days
Approved Up to 95 DaysDo you have proof of this you can upload? I'm skeptical but want to believe
T&C's also state "Discounts apply to most recent previous ticketed/advertised price." Does that literally it's not applicable to the current price, but the previous price?
This is madness territory. Buy a bambino and a dedicated grinder like a Mignon or DF54 for similar price and you'll have a much better cup of coffee with basically the same feature SET, and an upgrade path on the machine.
