  • Ok so I have a Sony A7iv, in the first slot I already have a Kingston v60 card.

Would this be a good card to get for the 2nd slot for raw and/or video files? Not sure how it works, have always used 1 SD card but thinking of videos.

    • +1

For most recording settings v60 card is more than enough. v90 is required and a better choice for high bit rate recording settings of 600Mbps. Doesn't hurt getting v90 as that way you have covered everything A7iv can do. Plus in future, you can use it in your next step-up camera as well.

If you will not use the capability of the new card (more demanding video codecs or faster buffer clearing) then I'd rather buy a slower card with more capacity.

In respect to future proofing, one thing to consider is that Type A cards are cheaper than V90 cards at higher capacities and much faster. I don't really see V90 cards as great endgame cards for Sony users..

I've got a G9II which has 2 UHS-II slots and my Lexar V60 cards don't always work when recording 800Mbps video. But V90 cards' prices are just too hard to justify. I used to have this CFeB card which worked really well on my GH6, and the 1TB version is just a bit over $300 these days, while for the same price I can barely get a 256GB V90 card.
Probably gonna switch to GH7 when the price of the body goes down a bit.

    • That's a type b card. Sadly for the Sony fx30 you need type a

  • Well, that's annoying. I bought this exact item but from Germany (same listing with Amazon DE) last night at $193. I tried to cancel the order this morning when I saw this but they said that it was already being shipped. Great price - Digidirect is double this price for the same card.

I have no idea if Amazon has an option to claim back the difference if an item's price drops within a very short period ? Some retailer's do.

  • Thanks. I bought 2 and stacked with the gift card deal. Got 6% off for two. And will use. 10$ credit for amazon au item next time

  • I have these cards, it takes forever to empty them if you're using them for photos.

    • Not sure what you mean ? They should read at close to 300Mb/s assuming you have a fast enough reader, which is about 9-10 minutes to read a full 128Gb of photos. If you have an old slow USB 2 reader then it will be much slower, but that isn't the card's fault.
