Overseas version.. much less range than the local aussie verson.

    Simple - Warning don't buy…

I bought an Asus router from Germany through amazon and works perfectly and has amazing range. If you're worried about using an international power adapter, you can email Asus Australia and they will sell you one.

I think the poster was alluding to the decreased wifi amplification that the EU allows.

I have the Au edition of the prior AC88u and it still goes well to this day.

Agreed the coverage is poor on the euro models sold by Amazon Europe. Avoid, stick to AU or US stock at a minimum.

      • Agree 100%

    • Didn't know this

  • No deal.. 6 antenna minimum 😅

It's been said already but I'll add to the chorus. The transmission strength of German (EU) routers is massively restricted compared to AU. It may work fine for some but for others, what you lose is not worth the money saved.

  • If wifi strength isnt really an issue, would this be a good deal otherwise ?

The software on it is great, but I had strength issues with my previous router so it solved that (I have the Australian version)

      1. Asus RT-AX57 AX3000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Router $219 @ Scorptec or Centre Com.
      2. Asus RT-AX59U AX4200 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Router $276 @ Umart or MSY.
      3. Ubiquiti UniFi Express UX AX3000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Router $227 @ Centre Com.

The Asus RT-AX57 and RT-AX59U routers don't support Merlin firmware if you care about that.

      • I have the telstra smart gen 2, at the moment and been good other than the 5ghz wifi signal doesn't work anymore and even the 2.4ghz speeds can be very poor at times.

I do have quite a few APs throughout my house utilising ethernet so I don't need a strong wifi signal, more so strong hardware to handle my internet speed and the dozens of devices I have using the internet

        • You could get a router without Wi-Fi. What are you using for your APs? How fast is your nbn?

          • @Twix: I have 1000 Mbps internet.

My kids have wifi routers in their rooms, which for Ethernet for their computers and consoles and wifi for other stuff like Split systems, TV's, phones, etc.

So I have a lot of wifi signals around the house, so basically just need a decent 'main' router to handle all the devices connected to it

@Danstar: Asus TUF AX4200 router for $200 is a good price. What brand model are the APs?

              • @Twix: Tp-link

                I know it’ll probably
Make sense to keep all hardware in same eco system. But I’m not using or ever goi g to use mesh

I mainly need a router that has good hardware over wifi capabilities; as wifi isn’t a concern at all

                • +1

@Danstar: You would be using ethernet backhaul even if you had a mesh Wi-Fi system. Do you have TP-Link Archer, TP-Link Omada or TP-Link Deco routers? What's the max you want to spend?

                  • @Twix: Archer

                    $200~

I’m reaching 900Mbps speeds on Ethernet; the wifi on my Telstra gen 2 seems to be playing up recently so I’m assuming it’s about to die

                    • +1

@Danstar: You could pickup another Telstra router for cheap. If you want TP-Link there's the Archer AX55 or AX72 with Gigabit WAN and there are AX55 Pro and AX72 Pro variants with 2.5G WAN.

                      • @Twix: I was looking at the AX55 Pro, but was thinking I'd need something with a bit more memory / cpu power

  • This or the TUF AX4200 (AU Version on sale for $200) or the TP Link AX73 pro on sale for 184 au…?

    • +1

This having apparently international firmware which is worse completely ruins the deal, so I'd go for the TUF personally.

You buy an ASUS for the firmware, it's why they're ~$100 more than similar TP Link hardware.
