  • for people who have bought this. curious what internets they have.

    • Yeah i wonder what this provides that a the other one just came up at about $200 doesn’t. But i haven’t been following these. My old Netgear Nighthawk is still going strong, fast too.

    • I have this and 1000/40 HFC , bulletproof ~ 29 clients connected (quiet today).
Main thing it does well is running three independant wifi speeds so I can put up an IOT network for cameras around the home and all phones/tablets/laptops seem to do just fine alongside me gaming and a couple of streaming TV's going.

Had the previous AC5300 (merlin firmware) for years before the radios seemingly packed in.

  • +1

If it’s still available for this price in the morning and hasn’t sold out on Amazon.au, I might drop into JB HiFi and pick it up for even cheaper.

    • dont forget 30$ voucher

Any EU router is heavily gimped when it comes to WiFi

      • You mean because of frequencies? Can't you just change regions?

        • Transmission power and frequencies. That option isn't available even with custom firmware. You have to run a script every time before the router fully initiates to force the region change in NVRAM (this includes every time when you change settings in the router) but the bypass isn't even reliable. If you use a channel >149, your router reverts itself to the EU config and it's not full transmission power.

  • Thanks, getting two to replace aging RT-AC5300's that are our of Merlin firmware support by the end of the year.

Those AC5300 were solid throughout covid with everyone home and online for work, school and streaming. We were 100/40 then, 950/47 now.

    • I vaguely remember there was some hoopla around this one because there were two models that have almost identical names, but one is worse for some reason.
