  • Dope piece of tech

  • +1

Have had this for 3 months and it is rock solid.

  • Have had one of these for a bit now and it's super useful, set up adguard in like 20 seconds and have network wide ad blocking for no effort

  • I wanted to love this but had issues with wifi connectivity to my devices. No issues with an older Netcomm router. I troubleshooted in Jan and then returned it.

Has the firmware improved since then?

    • +1

yes, they had updates that addressed the WiFi issues.

4.6.2 was release a couple of weeks ago.

      • Thanks for the reply.

Does this specifically fix known wifi issues?

        • +1

Apparently the 2.4Ghz wifi issue was actually fixed back in December..but maybe that was the original fix. There's been additional fixes. Best to look at the update readme's to answer your question. (I don't own one, just been googling about it myself)

          • @IJustKnowStuff: For me it wasn't just a 2.4 issue. 5ghz devices would drop out too — the wifi just wasn't reliable.

IIRC there was also an issue with the router not being able to switch from 80mhz to 160mhz (for supported devices). I'm not sure if that's been updated.

  • Got one of these for just over $200, couldn't wait. So glad I got one the auto failover is amazing especially for those of us that churn ISP's & use sims. I can flip between connections in moments with no configurations needed.

  • They have terrible wireless performance.
I bought a compatible WiFi6 Asus RT-AX53U ( before the Asus warranty scam reviled by GamersNexus ) to install OpenWrt and the wireless performance sucked.
I ended flashing the Asus community firmware instead and it has been running like a dream.

Before you say that it was because I flashed it and blablabla
GL.iNet is nothing more than a cute user interface on top of OpenWrt to make newbies' life easier or they wouldn't be able to go past the login page.
It is still a good idea to buy their travel wifi router but for everyday usage, buy something else if you wanna 100% performance from the wireless.

    • When did you have the router? This is my concern per my comment above. Just wondering if firmware updates have fixed the wifi issues.

    • +1

we dont live in Murica like DramaNexus, warranty's are enforced here

    • My understanding is that wifi performance 'was' an issue but this has been fixed with a firmware update, happy to be corrected by someone who is currently using the router with current firmware.

      • +1

Yes it was with a firmware update. As soon as I made a connection to the router it prompted me to install the latest firmware. I have had no issues what so ever and the WiFi is as good as if not better than my old Asus RT-AC88U which was phenomenal (sadly the Asus RT-AC88U is end of life).

I have a solid brick old style home with no open spaces as modern homes and the wifi has to go through 3 brick walls to reach my Desktop which has WiFi 6.

    • Could you please shed more light on this, I exactly have the same problem with my asus rt-ax53u. What community flashware did you flash with?

  • I am using the Flint 1 with no performance issues. Not considering upgrading at the moment until a good and not that expensive Wi-Fi 7 router to buy.

  • They had WiFi issues late last year with 2.4Ghz.

A firmware upgrade fixed that. Mine has been rock solid since february this year when I bought it and I have several devices that will only connect with 2.4 Ghz.

I was originally going to buy an Asus RT-AX88U Pro but when I checked the specs of this GL.iNet GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) Wi-Fi 6 Router it was the same but at half the price of the Asus.

Very happy with my purchase and I saved a lot of money in the process.
