Been looking for a good quality chopping board and I stumbled upon this neat board on Amazon that's actually made in Australia. It's made from a single solid piece of Camphor Laurel wood, so no chemicals or glues to join multiple wooden pieces and more durable. Should last decades with some care.

The size is pretty decent, 40 x 22 cm, perfect for most kitchen tasks. But if you need something bigger, they've got a larger size (46 x 26 cm) available too, which is great when you're handling more food or want a bit more space. The smaller one is currently on sale for $47.95, down from $79.99, and the larger one is $59.95, reduced from $94.99.

    Isn't end grain better?

You can get some decent endgrain boards on Facebook marketplace from punters running a side business.

    • End grain looks nicer for serving but its not a single piece of wood. I'd much rather this if I'm using it for actual chopping and not just as a serving board.

If you don't care about your knives or the longevity of the board…sure.

End grain cutting boards are often considered the superior option due to their knife-friendly surface and resistance to deep cuts

      • Glued up wood is actually stronger than a single piece in most cases.

    • End grain is better for preserving knife sharpness. If you want the chopping board to last longer, user side or face grain boards, and maybe buy the sharpening stones from an Amazon deal posted earlier. Camphor Laurel has a fine grain which will allow less microbial material to get into the timber, and the camphor oil is a natural antibiotic. As long as you keep the board maintained, it will be great for years.

    Lister, what's that smell?
    Camphor wood.
Your guitar was made of camphor wood.
It must have been worth a fortune.

  • Love my Camphor laurel chopping board. We mostly use it for cutting rather than chopping as such :)
Its antibacterial, insect repellant properties make it perfect for the purpose, which is the main reason we bought it.

    and It does smell beautiful.

    Quote:

Camphor laurel is mildly toxic to humans, and mild symptoms may occur if large quantities are eaten. All parts of the plant are poisonous and can cause nausea, vomiting and respiratory distress. Allergic skin reactions can also occur.

      • I'm guessing you didn't read:

Allergic skin reactions can also occur.

        • I am guessing you didn't get the reference. Not discounting your helpful contribution but you did post a quote featuring the dangers of eating "large quantities" of wood.
