Cheapest I've seen for the full P8 package with remote and 2 cameras. Try adding the Zip coupon too for an extra $10 off?.

This device just works. I use it with wireless Android Auto and it boots up within a few seconds and hardly ever craps out.

I have had this in one of our cars for 10 months and it is fantastic, even in the heat of summer sitting up on the hot dashboard. The remote is really good and the screen is very easy to read. And dual dashcams when you add a (up to) 128GB microSD - higher capacity doesn't work I've tried. Reversing camera is very nice.

Sure you can buy this kind of thing for half this price on aliexpress, but this ATOTO unit is much higher quality than those. I have tried a circa $100 one and sent it back because it wouldn't reliably connect - and the screen was awful. I have just bought a second one of these P8s for our other car its that good.

The only drawback with these P8's is that you must use their camera(s) and the supplied cabling. So it usually works out much cheaper to buy the full 2 camera kit, rather than add cameras later.

I have one of these P8s (but without the cameras) - great investment if you don't want to spend the money upgrading the headunit.

does it block your view ..especially in the center ?

      • +2

I personally don't think it blocks my view, but it's subjective. I remember watching this video before buying it, which was quite informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFifSE1-jAY

        • thanks.. ohh i thought the camera was at the back of the unit.. but it seems like its a different accessory

    • How do you find the mic on the Atoto? I avoided this model because of mixed reports on mic quality on reddit.

I picked up a Carpuride W701 for $150 a few days ago (no remote, no cameras), much better than using a mounted phone! No in-built logo change or ambient light sensor for auto dimming though. Have only done a couple of calls but inbuilt mic on mine seems OK, also has option to add an external mic.

      • +1

The Atoto comes with an external mic that I've placed above my rear-view mirror - the voice quality from the mic is pretty poor. I haven't researched to see if I can use a different external mic.

I have been using this for the last 10 months. Its definitely worth the money.
Their technical support has been great—smooth connectivity with Andriod Auto and Apple car play.
Display auto dimming, boot up logo to match your car's make and the remote are added advantages.

The only complaint I have is, the SD card removal process is a bit time consuming because of its location. I wish they had put the SD card slot in a convenient location for easy removal. Not a deal breaker though .

Just two questions: 1. who's Sue? and 2. How do i contact her?

    • +1

You don't contact Sue, she contacts you.
Sue is the real name of that one user who always complains about the price being higher in her cart, because she didn't click the coupon checkbox.

  • Been looking at the Carpuride.. Are these any better?

    • +1

IMHO the best thing about these ATOTs is the screen. They use a good quality bright and high contrast matte finish screen. So it works well in sunlight and no reflections from inside the car.

      • Aye, the Carpuride I just got is quite reflective, this sounds like a good improvement.

  • Is there accessories needed to use the 24/7 monitoring?

    • +1

I believe there is a different 12V cigarette adaptor that you purchase separately, that has an extra wire or something so it keeps it running in the background. You'd have to look into ATOTO support for details I'm not sure if its vapourware. It's probably a relatively expensive way to go about it though, a dedicated dashcam with that feature would probably be the way to go.

      • Thanks! Maybe its like any other dashcam, we need to buy separate kit link to the fuse box to use power from the car battery because the cigarette lighter doesnt have power when the engine is off.

  • Thanks OP, I bought the vanilla bundle of this to upgrade from the old P8 I’ve been using for a year (coupons brought it down to $120). Solid little device but the old version has these issues: terrible mic and slow charging USB which the new version has addressed.

  • Thanks OP, I bought the base P8 and just used it on a drive for the first time, works great. However it seems my ford fiesta 2013 keeps the power going to the 12v cigarette lighter port going at all times so the screen never goes off. I came back to check on it after half an hour and it was still going. Obviously not great for the battery. I couldn't find a way for it to go into any standby mode so wondering if my only option is to get a kit to power it from the car directly.

(alternative is unplugging each time but that's not really something I want to do)

    • It doesn't really have a standby mode. its fully on or off. Although there must be something that can do that because there is mention of a "parking mode" which apparently needs a different power adapter plug thingo which seems to be vapourware. Best thing you can do is re-wire your cigar socket to only run with the key on.

      • I'll have a look into that, thanks!

        • The adapter for running the P8 cameras in parking mode is "AC-P8AC12". It comes with the new P9 version of this device so it does exist, but it appears to not be available to buy individually anywhere online. You could probably get it via Atoto customer support.

  • Can anyone comment on their remote wheel?
Mine is very sensitive and loose. Sometimes end up changing the volume when I just want to pressure a button

    • +1

Yes I find the volume wheel is very sensitive, and its difficult to make small adjustments. I think the detents aren't as positive/strong as they could be.

But its way better than not having steering wheel controls at all, and I much prefer a wheel for volume than buttons - which seems to be the only other option. So there's a bit of compromise required.

      • Ah okay fair. I'm going to experiment a bit to see if i can modify the wheel to get to a nice middle ground :D

        thanks for confirming.
