I think the only con about meross is the bulky size.

      • It is a big con. I bought these, have to use an extension on each one as cant use in powerboards, cant use in dual outlet sockets.

I had the old Kasa ones and didn't like the bulk. Got a pack of Meross but they kept tripping on dishwasher, washing machine, heaters and other high draw items - even though the rating is the same, the Tapo 100% handles these loads now, I have them all over the house and connected with HA. Also note that the Meross devs put limits on api calls and flagged accounts for checking more than once every 30 seconds or something - think it's changed now, but still annoyed me.

If you still want the meross ones, I have 6 or so lying around I can post to you haha

    • I've had two meross units fail within weeks of one another ~ 15 months old. Rather than fail to a safe OFF state, it was turning my devices on and off every 5s or so. Potentially a fire risk with a heavier load like a heater. I opened one up and could see a large capacitor had blown its cap. The other has the same sound inside when I shake it. I had to push ACL for a refund on safety grounds.

Yep the meross is so chunky it blocks the adjacent power point. Worth getting the tapo, it is so much slimmer and leaves enough clearance for adjacent points to still be usable.

I would say the Tapo P110M is the better bargain ($19.92)

It's the same unit but has Matter support, so it better integrates with Apple HomeKit and Google Home. It also isn't reliant on Tapo Cloud but has local only support.

    • sorry whats the difference between yours and the deal posted?

      • +2

It's the same unit just the newer version (P110 vs P110M).

The one I mentioned includes an extra protocol which means it can work offline and integrate directly with Google/Apple instead of needing to use TP-Links app (which can go offline or drop support in the future).

For $2 more this is a no-brainer to me.

thanks! I am after one with google home as well! cheers

        • +5

It can also integerate with home-based ecosystems like "Home Assistant". For technical-savvy users only, but means you can run entirely offline, and it's much faster/more responsive/more customisable.

I'm gunning to be able to come home and scream "AZIZ, LIGHT"

Matter compatible (P110M) at ATL at $19.92, if that matters to you. Extra 10% if you get two. Falls under Home Improvement; 15% cashback via Cashrewards.

Anyone knows if both deals stack? I'm assuming no?

    • sorry whats the difference between yours and the deal posted?

      • It has Matter support. It basically aims to unify all the different smart home protocols (think Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Alexa) into one so you can use matter compatible HomeKit products on your Android phone, for example.

    • Worth paying more for Matter support specifically for this type of device?

      • +2

Personally, I would say yes due to local-only support. If you purchase 2, it gets cheaper than this deal if you were to purchase 2.

The same P110M or a different one?

      • +1

Different. The one you linked (P100) has no energy monitoring, and no Matter support.

        • Got you, thanks!

  • +2

    Only $14 at JB HiFi

    • P110 too, that's actually quite a good deal.

      • Got 2 for $18 with Perks voucher. Pretty happy with that.

        • Order just got cancelled due to stock discrepancy

  • It is currently $14 at JB:

    • Interesting that the Energy Monitoring one is cheaper

  • +1

you can get jbhifi to price match the matter version with this. They don't know the difference, so just send them this link from amazon, and ask them to price match the matter version on their website. Worked for me last time, and then used my $10 perks coupon.

  • would all my devices still turn on remotely if i have an extension cord plug into this?

  • WARNING!! These fail, and fail regularly.

I’ve been through like 4 of em.

Click of death it just starts clicking on and off every second, luckily I didn’t lose anything plugged into these!!

    • +1 I’ve lost a psu to one of these when it got hit by the click of death.

At first once every couple of a days it’d reset. At the end the relay inside would click on and off non stop.

  • I've got an erratic small bar freezer that turns itself off sometimes. I find that turning it off for 30 mins to an hour a day helps with the issue. I'm assuming I can use this for that purpose? Any risk with the wattage/amp?
