Seems to be a really cheap price for a 2TB portable SSD. Unsure how good it is.

We got SSDs for PS6 before GTA6…(Sarcasm)

Beat me to it. What a silly name/model number for a product…

      • +10

Is it? Portable Storage = PS

It says what it is. This naming makes more sense than Play 'Station' or Photo 'Shop'.

    • +2

They have the PS8 as well :)

    • We're going to get GTA7 before GTA6 at this rate!!! Winds of Winter still won't be out by then.

      • +1

        It's Duke Nukem 4-ever, again

        • Sad that the best Nukem 4 Ever game wasn't even the sequel (talking about Bulletstorm)

  • +6

Very slow read and write speeds for an SSD. Only 500mb/s

    • +1

It's probably simply max out the original usb3 bandwidth

      • +2

No, that's ~1GB/s. However this must be a SATA SSD, so it's the maximum speed you can expect. You'll need a NVMe or native USB chipset for faster.

        Edit: The PS8 is a NVMe https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CHW3CYJ7/

        • +2

Pretty sure 1GB/s is the later USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 spec. The OG USB 3.0 is 500MB/s

          • @juns: Sorry you were right, I was remembering wrong, USB3 gen 1 is ~ 500MB/s. However I still strongly suspect the limit here is sort of SATA not USB. (I mean the bridge chip is probably gen 1 so it's sort of both and USB has a lower nominal limited than SATA so USB could limit more. But I do think this is probably a SATA internally, so even assuming you can shuck it you won't be getting much faster.)

  • Is this a standard SSD or can be used with ps6 only?

  • +1

Are they as reliable as the Samsung ones?

  • +2

Came here for the PS6 comments

    • +1

      Still waiting

  • oh wait, they even got PS8 version!

  • Anyone know which NVME is inside? Considering buying and shucking NVME if it has DRAM and Gen 3 or Gen 4 as a cheap 2tb drive in a high speed enclosure

    • +1

Looking at how small it is, it doesn't seem to be shuckable. Pretty sure it's something custom inside. It's hard to know because there doesn't really seem to be many reviews about it.

      • Thx Didnt notice the size Looks like a DRAMless 2230 NVME must be inside - Samsung(() Pro 4tb looks good on sale today Amazon

  • OOS :(

1TB and 512GB models are still in stock however

    • 1TB OOS as well

  • +1

1TB PS8 is still available. Twice the read/write speed too. Only $20 more than the PS6 one

    • Agree, good specs and price
