    Hi All,

I've vowed to neg every TID post/deal that comes through, this is so people are aware of my bad experience:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/851848

    Summary on experience:

I had a bad experience claiming with Travel Insurance Direct.

There was an earthquake in Japan and I couldn't travel from Tokyo to Osaka due to damage on the train system.

This resulted in me also not being able to arrive to my Osaka hotel.

TID advised me the train company and hotel should compensate me if it was impacted by the earthquake, not them.

TID also requested I get written evidence from the train and hotel companies advising they won't cover me even before they look into my claim.

What's the point of having travel insurance when they're not covering these scenarios.

My work colleague used their credit card travel insurance with the same scenario and no problems claiming.

I advise you to contact other travel insurances with a few scenarios and how they go about compensation eg., like my scenario.

It may be worth the extra money looking elsewhere.

    An alternative:

I've done a ton of research on other travel insurance companies post that experience, Tick Travel Insurance was what I ended up with based on price and what they cover:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/tickinsurance.com.au

They run 15% off promos once in a while.

It's just a suggestion based on my personal experience

Likewise, appreciate the heads up. Now back to finding a deal for upcoming travel..

I have also vowed to neg every TID deal for a similar experience to the above. They are absolute rubbish.

If they would actually be true to their word and pay out claims, they would not lose so much business to bad reviews.

Giving a neg to show support to AusDave

    • but did you lose money from missing the train and hotel? your previous posts you said you got reimbursed by the hotel.. for insurance claims you're not supposed to come out ahead..

  • WW20ENTB currently works for World2Cover for 20% off. Better discount, and I've never had issues with them during claims.

    • Code expired currently

  • Maybe they have gotten worse. I have claimed with TID in the past with no issues. In 2016 they paid out a cruise cancellation for a death in the family to the full policy benefit.

  • Suggestion - if there is option in the policy to include - Natural Disaster - as cover for a little extra $$,
please tick yes to take the cover.

They are the same insurance company….

    Tick Insurance - https://www.tickinsurance.com.au/

    and

    Insureandgo - https://www.insureandgo.com.au/one-trip-travel-insurance/
covers - natural disaster for under $10 extra
gold cover - unlimited emergency expences

    Use code - groupon20
    Gives you 20% off
Can use on both insurance companies

Please check what it covers -
as Tick Insurance and Insureandgo have different cover amounts

      Code doesn't work on tick

      • How did you apply the code: groupon20?

    • Not working for tick, but code 'finder' does for 10% off

  • Looks like Tick Insurance and InsuranceandGo have the same underwriter however Tick is coming up cheaper so would it safe to go with the cheaper one?
