  • Thanks! That's an amazing price!

    • Amazing price indeed! Everyone with a B350 or newer motherboard still on a Ryzen 1000/2000 or budget/midprice Ryzen 3000 CPU should get this and dump their old CPU on the used market while it's value is a high % of the price of this CPU.

This is great value, very good deal.

That said, I'd highly encourage anyone upgrading now to stretch for the 5700x3D.

Even when not gaming, things like encoding or even huge excel calculations benefit immensely from that vcache.

Since this is now a 'last gen' platform, it makes sense if at all possible, to try and end-game the CPU, so once thats 'not enough' you know definitively that platform is finished for you.

    • +2

It'd be OK if you had an older Zen with compatible board, but i wouldn't invest too much in the AM4 platform these days.

Worth mentioning some 5000 series have had USB issues which can be Googled.

      • +3

I have issues with a 5600X where my USB drives will disconnect randomly,.

        • Yep, ditched an otherwising working 5600 system because USB instability was causing constant crashes. CPU and mobo retailers blamed each other and both were just out of warranty of course.

It may have been limited to certain chipset ie. B550m but not worth the potential headache and would move to a new platworm IMO, possibly lower end Intel.

          • @buffalo bill: good to know it’s not just me

          • +2

@buffalo bill: I found that the CPU managed USB ports were causing probs, the chipset managed ones were ok.
So what worked for me was to stop using the CPU managed ones, I added a pcie 7-port USB card make up for the lost ports. Not an elegant solution but at least it's stable now.

      • Maybe that's why the usb c port on my motherboard has never worked.

    • +9

But that's an extra $110 double the price for 30% increase in performance for what would be considered niche cases for most people.

I've always believed that if you don't know if you need it, you probably don't need the x3d chips.

      • -2

When you have spent $1000+ on GPU, monitor, motherboard, ram primarily for gaming performance, spending an extra 10% ($100) for 30% extra performance actually makes great sense.

Though you might not see anywhere near that performance increase depending on resolution, GPU, refresh rate etc

        • +2

I guess? I'm a firm believer that if you have an extra 100, put it on your GPU. That has much higher impact than the x3d chips.

          • @Wonderfool: Totally different point, but yes agreed GPU is usually the bottleneck for most people in most games.

        • Also x3d will hold value so you'll make your $100 back if/when you sell it in a couple of years. No brainer for some but the 5600 is plenty for many others also.

      • Totally agree. Even for gaming, the gains are much smaller than what forumers throw around unless you have a 4080 or faster GPU on a 1080p or smaller monitor, usually.

    • +1

For gaming, I would only upgrade to the 5700x3D if you have a GPU to match it, eg, RX 6800 or better. Otherwise, your GPU will prevent you from making the most of the CPU.

  • I picked this up in the last deal - works great.

    This or the George Foreman?

    • +2

Spring for the George ForemanX, slightly faster cooking time.

  • you will own 6 cores and you will be happy

    • +7

I mean at this price yes absolutely

  • +1

i am using 5600 with 6800 in 1440p gaming, pretty good match. Got a faster GPU for 1440p? I will get 7500f as there are a few games 5600 isn't fast enough for my 6800 in 1440p gaming. Few games only… in 1440p.

    I bought $200 last year…

Good deal, ive not used Ali express before but the process was prettty simple. I must have a small card charge though as it was ~121 for me but that's still good. Upgrading from a Ryzen 5 1600 so pretty excited.

  • Is this better than 3700X? Trying to decide.

    • +1

If you use your PC primarily for gaming, then yes it's better.

    • +1

For things that require higher IPC (faster single core performance) it's better. Multithreaded is slightly better on 3700X.

Personally, from a 3700x, I'd really only consider upgrading to a 5700X3D/5800X3D. Though with the price of this 5600 you could likely break even selling your 3700X online..

  • This is an excellent price for a good all round CPU. Most application users and gamers won't need to spend 4 times as much for a 25% better chip. The only time I would benefit from more cores is when converting lots of images to Jxl (Jpegs real successor), or transcoding 16 bit Flac music to Ape to save a little space. A lossless encoded Jxl images is about 35% smaller than a PNG; WebP is also good at lossless encoding but JpegXL wins except for extremely noisy images (remove/reduce noise prior to encoding).

  • Worth the upgrade from a 3600?

    • +1

Only +12% effective speed according to userbenchmarks

    • +1

I’m on the same boat, also on a 3600. Did a quick research on YouTube benchmarks, if you’re gaming on 1440p seems like it’s not worth the upgrade as per above comment. But if you’re gaming on 1080p maybe? I’d wait/save up for 5700X3D to get AM5 7500 equivalent performance without having to switch to a new platform.

  • Does this have Australia warranty/Is AliExpress trustworthy? Never bought anything from them before

  • +2

For those people that do not have/want a GPU card, note that this CPU doesn't have an integrated GPU, unlike the 5600G.
The 5600G is available at the same store for 105.51 USD (~ 156 AUD) including delivery, when stacked with this deal

  • Anyone recommend a budget mainboard to go with this?
    Cheapest possible

Looks like there a cheaper one from this store?

  • Worth the upgrade from a 5500? Have a 4060ti.

    • Yes 5500 is gimped but if you're going to go to the hassle, just upgrade to 5700X3D instead.

  • Thanks for the instructions on how to get the best savings by using those currency settings, got the price down from $120 to $115 because of it. Great timing on this deal as well, my CPU just died and this is a great price for a replacement. Let's hope she performs as well as my other 5600.

  • Worth getting this or a ryzen 5 3600? I'm primarily looking at a rtx 3060 or 2070 super GPU.
